I think it would be great, none of my friends would smoke any more and they would all smell better :D I don't really have a problem with smoking other than the smell and the problems it causes

Live by societys rules? Unfortunately, I have to even if they are a load of shit. Not every rule though keep in mind.
As for barmen, do they have to work in the bar? No, they dont have to work there but they choose to, so its their own problem. If they dont like it, they can leave. Well, not so much anymore cause of the whole lack of jobs and whatnot.
I dont see what either CF or asthma have to do with this but whatever. Its a pretty simple solution, dont smoke near someone who has a breathing disorder. Sure, you might not know if anyone around you has a breathing disorder but if they have half a brain, theyll ask you to stop or move away or maybe even move away themselves. And you have any shred of respect, youll move away at the very least.
I never said anything about smoking having a positive or negative affect on society but Ill roll with it. Sure, smoking kills people buts thats the person choice. If they want to kill themselves slowly and expensively, who are you to stop them?
Anyway, if tobacco was made illegal, why not make caffine illegal? Thats bad for you. Alcohol too while youre at it and any fatty foods. In fact, why dont we just get rid of everything thats bad for us? Its a completely stupid and ridiculous idea to try to make an substance illegal because prohibition doesnt work and it will never work.
You have to? Is that not a choice? like the barmen? And i never said anything about stopping them, as much as i am against suicide, I just would rather that they do it in privacy, its their business, let them at it, but why should i have to suffer because of their habit? do i not have just the same right to go out and enjoy myself and not be inflicted with clouds of toxicity? im going to loose a very close friend of mine to second hand smoke before the end of this year, she has CF and her life expectancy was cut in half by the presence of second hand smoke in every day life. Can you not see that there are absolutly no positives when it comes to smoking? You talk about rights, as most people do, and how our rights must be observed, but ever right comes with a resposibility, that most people will shrug off. You may have the right to smoke, but you dont ever have the right to affect someone elses health negativly. in fact you have the resposibility to make sure you dont. if you want to smoke, fine, by all means do it, and enjoy it. but dont force the negative affects of your habit on others who dont want it. and as much as you say its easy to avoid, it really isnt. And how can you not see what asthma and CF have to do with this, the numbers of cases are increasing due to second hand smoke, and smoking in general. Thats what it has to do with it. Oh and alcohol, fat and caffine are all part of a healthy well balanced diet, thats why they wont be made illegal. plus ive never seen second hand coffee steam affecting other peoples health.

Meh. I like smoking but it's not at the top of my list of things I can't live without (Ha!).

...would be a wonderful world with drastically reduced cancer ratings since smoking causes a lot of the cancers we can succumb to either directly or indirectly. People would smell better since cigarette smoke stinks to high heaven. And your teeth wouldn't be the color of piss as well as not having the breath of death. So yes, a world without smokling would be near perfect.

True but it couldn't be worse than that...unless they start smoking pot or crack which of course wouldn't be a good idea since the cops would bust your ass.

(puts fantasy hat on) They should just develop cigarettes like the ones on Policenauts that don't give off harmful second hand smoke.

Anyway on topic silly hypothetical question is silly.
Don't smoke those...
However this still almost makes me cry with laughter every time I see his face near the end.

If there was no smoking...i'd kill everyone because of stress. Ever noticed how non-smokers die every day? So did I, but so do smokers, so there's no difference really.

It would really bad if they tried to ban cigarettes and tobacco, I mean look what happened with the Prohibition, the Mafia got richer and richer and the government got poorer and poorer, with the lack of tax revenues they originally had got from the alcohol brewing companies. So if they'd ban cigarettes and tobacco, especially in the current economic situation, would be really bad for the government.

But if tobacco never existed, then that'd be a different story, the world would most surely be better for the people, but as someone else said, then the problem with overpopulation which is already quite bad (okay, maybe not so much) would get really big. But I'm gonna say it again, I'm against banning cigarettes and tobacco because people have a right to do whatever they want, personally I'm against smoking, but you can't tell people what to do.

Agreed!

And a world where I'd be a lot more pleasant (I have a weird reaction to the smell of smoking)

Well, since far more lung diseases (or "hideos" diseases, if you prefer) are caused by car exhaust fumes than cigarette smoking, perhaps we should just take away your car instead, since those of you who don't use public transit are contributing to the causes of these diseases far more than the smokers.

Be careful what you wish for, my friend. Cigarette smoking is a very easy target for politicians, media, etc... and if it goes away completely, they're going to need a new target. That's one of the main ways they win votes/viewers/etc - and once smoking is gone, the next holy crusade is just around the corner. Who knows what they'll decide needs to be banned next, for "the sake of the people"? (i.e. for the sake of the select few able to take full advantage of the crusade)

::EDIT:: On a side note, if it weren't one thing, it would be another. Even if tobacco had never existed it wouldn't stop people finding some other drug to take its place. As if Western society weren't already a drug culture - FAR more people are addicted to caffeine today than nicotine, just by way of an example. In fact, it probably causes a similar number of terminal cases as tobacco (I don't have numbers to back up that last, however.) Excessive caffeine consumption causes heart disease, blood pressure issues, heart rate issues, gastrointestinal problems, problems with the esophagus, and stimulates stress hormones.

Know yet another thing that kills more people yearly than tobacco? Bad diet. Especially foods filled with salt and/or cholesterol.

I could go on. Tobacco isn't really a serious problem - it's a scapegoat - or even a pariah, because it's an easy public target to get people to hate and revile... and in the long run, it's just another political tool.

A world without what kind of smoking? Smoking when like what happens after someone gets lit on fire for me not being able to have a cigarette? Look, fact is, people die. That they die of "hideous diseases" means that they're not sticking around dying of things like "natural causes". A world without tobacco smoking would be a world with some other habit. People would be dying of coffee related deaths. Just let it be, people are going to die, let them do it, it's better for the world in the long run.
