I'm a PC gamer, and I really enjoy strategy, RPG and experimental games. I've really been excited by the recent explosion of indie games, especially as supported by Steam. I've also been excited by how KickStarter is taking off as a means of fans funding the games they want, cutting publishers out of the loop and showing that maybe gaming actually doesn't need capitalism after all!

I also own an iPad, and enjoy playing indie/experimental and casual games on it. I see huge potential for iPads (and tablets in general) to take off for gaming on a level beyond 5-minute-session phone games. As we've seen FPSes are difficult to adapt to touch controls, however strategy, RPG and adventure games work really well - sometimes even better than with kb/mouse or controller.

Right now on Kickstarter there is a game that could be one of the first AAA real games for iPad - it's called Republique, it's being made by experienced (real) developers, and it looks awesome!

It's getting a lot of funding, but at present it looks like not enough to reach its target.

Even though it's an interesting game, with demo game footage to show how cool it will be, and is being taken seriously by Apple - it's the first iOS game that Apple have agreed to let the developers award game copies to backers (ie. preorder) - despite all of that, it's getting zero coverage from gaming sites and generally not sparking much interest.

Am I the only one who has a personal interest in or sees potential for real games on tablets? What about you, would you like to play full-blown games on iPad / Android tablet?

It seems like a very strange thing to do, sure if they can somehow pull it off more power to them.

But... these platforms are far better suited for the 5 minute session game.
Because the hardware is very limited, you have limited battery that gets horrifically short with games, holding that paving slab up to play is extremely uncomfortable, the interface is far from ideal, and you usually end up using it when out in public where there are no other options (all sense of atmosphere and story will be lost in that environment).
So what you really aim triple A mobile games at are the people who sit at home and only have a tablet... not sure how big that market is.

Yeah good points Mr.K. The funding levels the project is getting tend to agree with you, I appear to be part of a pretty niche market.

However, there are plenty of signs that as tablets mature they may become the primary computing device in a house - no standard PC in sight, and once it hooks up nicely to the TV and has some additional control options (LOTS of prototypes and rumours of these happening) they will be a good competitor to consoles.

So I guess maybe this game is ahead of its time?

Also, we already have big, real games like Galaxy on Fire, Baldur's Gate, and Double Fine Adventure already on or coming to tablets, so maybe that future is not too far away? I hope not!
