Hjello,

Was wondering could anyone give me some insight into what ever happened to Abe's Odyssey? I absolutely loved all of the AO and the related. Last I heard, they were talking about ending the series for good and coming out with some kind of television series about it. Who ever developed these games, I wish they would do more, lol Oddworld maybe? So much fun had. Thanks...Gum

Oddworld Inhabitants (I think that's the developer, anyway) went on to make Abe's Exoddus, Munch's Odyssey and Stranger's Wrath, all in the same universe as Abe's Odyssey (Oddworld). I haven't heard anything about a television series and doubt that happening, but I wouldn't be surprised if they made another game. Possibly with Abe.

Ah Yes The good old times, use to play Abe's Oddesey on the Playstation 1 for hours and hours a time, never had a Memory card, so I started over each time I powerd off and on. Still I never lost interest in playing the game, it was just so much fun. Didn't hear anything myself neither. if you ask me the studio (Oddworld Inhabitants) is dead. but better to let something die when the time is right, then milking the cow dead.

You're in luck - I'm a huge Oddworld fan and know a lot about it (to the point where the people I met through the official Oddworld forums even changed my life. lol). Fortunately I saw your topic from the list of forum links on the right of the page while I was looking at yesterday's Zero Punctuation. :p So I created an account just so I could respond to this topic.

For the latest news on Oddworld Inhabitants, you can consult the Oddworld Forums, which still sees some activity from time to time: http://www.oddworldforums.net

Oddworld Inhabitants recently released the PC versions of Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/949/

You can also get them from GOG.com: http://www.gog.com/en/search/sort/search/Oddworld

OWI also made 2 more games - Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath for X-Box - Unfortunately they're not backwards compatible with the X-Box 360. However, Oddworld Inhabitants have recently stated that if AO and AE sell well on GOG and Steam, then they'll make PC ports of these 2 games to release.

You can find a good video walkthrough of the beginning of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath here: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=B8FBCDDDAEB3ABD3

Oddworld Inhabitants are not dead: They are currently working on a CGI movie called Citizen Seige, but that is set for either a 2010 or a 2012 release. There are rumours flying around that they want to go back into games again however - But nobody knows how true they are.

Thier official website is http://www.oddworld.com/firsttenyears/index.shtml but that hasn't been updated in ages.

You can also order an Oddworld artwork book from Ballistic Publishing: http://www.ballisticpublishing.com/books/oddworld/

Good to see someone else who remembers Abe's Oddysee. :p Hope this info helps.

That's what happened to them... I hadn't heard anything after Munch's Oddysee, which I never played. Now lets hope for the old PC port so I can give those two games a crack at some stage.

Munch's Oddysee, personally, was the best of the lot, I thought. I still need to go back and finish Stranger's Wrath-- but I'd have to re-hook my XBox for that tho.

Last I heard, the movie is on hold: (see 7th paragraph) http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2008/11/larry-shapiro-b.html

Oddly (ha ha) enough, one item I saw recently came right from here on the Escapist:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/84072

so, regardless, it looks like it's going to be a while until we see something from them, even if they're not defunct.

Abe's Oddysey is one of the best games ever. We can only pray they make new games about Abe in the future.

An Oddworld topic? I think I just smiled a little.

After Abe, Oddworld made a could of other games, then they apparently shut down, sadly.
I've seen rumors on the internet recently though, that Oddworld are going to start making games again.

I think their downfall started with the XBox game, as Lorne Lanning started making promises of persisten worlds, online components, and life-like AI and didn't deliver them.

Not to say the game was bad, it was great, but Oddworlds hyped it to be the be-all/end-all of videogames, (and only possible on XBox) while slamming their competition, and ended delivering a pretty much by-the-numbers update to their game. It could never have lived up to the hype they set it to.

...you know, Molyneux Syndrome.
