OP is a sillyhead, okay? As many others have already said, Modern Warfare 2 was not well-received because it was insanely buggy and it has overpriced DLC and such. Minecraft is one ten euro payment and you have it forever, and there's no DRM, you can install it anywhere you want. Oh, and it's a lot of fun.

And I still think Yahtzee is funny.

Did they fix that DDOS problem yet?

OT: I think it'll still have pretty big fanbase, even after the initial hype burns down.

Yeah, I quit immediately. The programmer obviously has lack of skills in programming.
The non existent physics is one of the most charming things in the game, and it makes it possible to build both beautiful and awesome structures in the game, so please shut your mouth while I stare in awe at awesome things people have made in Minecraft because of the physics in the game.

The hype may die down, but it's a good game with a lot of potential. People may get bored of it, but there'll still be a core fanbase that will enjoy it.

I'd equate it to Second Life. It was hot shit for a while with loads of news articles written about it, and companies tried to get on board, but now it's sort of faded from people's minds despite a lot of people still having barrels of fun with it.

I think they fixed them, yes. Online Multiplayer works once again, so I think so.

I don't know how long Minecraft can sustain a fan-base this large, but it will surely never generate MW2-type hate. The comparison isn't valid. And am I missing something about ZP? Scroll through the comment section of one of his videos, and you won't find anything other than "oh, I wish you did ____ game, but still really funny" or "lol great episode!!!". I think the only place Yahtzee is getting any actual hate is the Escapist forums, to be honest.

I think it'll catch more people, but there will still be a lot of people who don't get it no matter how big it gets.

well mw2 was pretty cool
except for the cheating, camping,boosting
and little piece of shit 12 year olds that need to shut the fuck up
but Minecraft doesnt have any of that so it should be alright
also, a downloadable console verision of Minecraft would be awesome

I've built a house out of lava, a house out of glass underwater a stone castle that [/b]floats on water[/b]

A three story tall castle that flies hundreds of feet in the sky and spews lava from every corner like giant molten legs...

In MW2 I slammed a guy in the face with a riot shield...

Minecraft is and likely will always be awesome.

It's not going anywhere.

Tried Minecraft but my interwebs are awful and it lagged something chronic so I have decided to save it for when I get a new router.
So I'll probably be amazed by it when everyone else has stopped playing... behind the times as usual.
Are you trying to play Alpha (the paid version)? If you are then you can just download the launcher y'know :p
Nah it was the classic version, browser based. Like I said, my internet speed is dire, the download was going to take about 10 hours. I may sort it out tomorrow... maybe...
If you play the alpha, you only need an internet connection for downloading the exe the first time, to create a new world and to update the game, but you don't need the internet to continue playing an existing world.
Then again, if it really takes about 10 hours to download the exe (which is only 227 kb (when I downloaded it a few weeks ago)), you really need to get some faster internet... (how are you even loading these forums?)

Well to be fair at that time our halls were undergoing some serious internet gremlins due to the fact the people in charge had switched providers without telling the residents and it was causing a lot of cock-ups, it'll probably download a lot faster now.

Also thanks for the heads up on not needing the internet for Alpha. May have to get on it and check it out.

I tried Minecraft, and I'm sorry, but I just do not see the appeal at all :/. I don't think it will catch on that much.
You realize that it's already sold 400,000 copies in alpha, right? It can't "catch on" much more than that considering its original development team size of one guy.
go to the site and look at the top "463228 purchases" :D

There will always be those people that hate playing something or hate on something because it's popular. I have a friend at work that won't touch any Apple products just because they're Apple products. The people that hate something just because it's popular will always be around, and even a charming game like Minecraft will feel the weight of that hate....mate.

MW2 was terrible from the very start.

Minecraft is just fun, it's one of those games people will either enjoy or just not understand.

No offense mate, but he probably did a way better job than you can ever do. Right now he is laughing in your face in a bathtub full of money. And you are not arguing about the presence of the undead or other fictional creatures, yet are upset about the fact that trees will not tip over when you cut them? Do you actually care that much about a small detail like that for a game that is still in the beta stage? He wasn't expecting the game to be this popular, so it wasn't his highest priority to add a small detail like a tree tipping over.

Anyway, I understand what you all are saying. The hate is bound to come eventually right? So as long as we fight them off with good reasoning it should end eventually. This game isn't MW2, no game is NEARLY that broken.

So not only can he not program game physics but he doesn't know the proper way to take a bath. I simply am not surprised.

A small detail? What if CHILDREN play this game and decide to punch a tree down? And what if it's a rotten tree and actually falls over and kills them? Then the blood is on the hands of the developer!

So, you are saying children do not understand the concept of "What goes up, must come down?" And you are also implying that a game would have such an impact on a child that they would actually inflict bodily harm on themselves attempting to take down vegetation with their bare hands? Do you even read what you are typing? Any child who would play this game is of age to understand that a tree doesn't actually float. And by saying this you would also be implying that they could believe life had a respawn, so if you shoot yourself you will just reappear in another ten seconds? That zombies are real? Your argument is far past invalid fellow Escapist, and I would simply suggest you drop it before you hurt yourself. Wouldn't want a tree falling on you, ya know those things don't actually float!

Wait what? Did I miss something somewhere? I've only seen one person saying he hates it.

Also you know what I hate? I hate this attitude where if anyone says they hate something you like, you claim that they only hate it because it's the cool thing to do. Did you ever stop and think that maybe people hate something because they actually hate it? No, of course you didn't, you just want to go around and troll like the guy who said the game sucks because trees don't fall over (although that made me laugh so +3 points to him).

I haven't played Minecraft myself (it seems to be all about building things and it seems to do that well, but I can never come up with anything cool to make in games like that; anyone who has LittleBigPlanet can go search for levels I made there and see what I mean, and if you don't have it I'll just tell you: you won't find anything good at all), so I don't have anything to say about that directly. But maybe some of you who like it could be open to the possibility that some people who don't like it just gave it a chance and just didn't like it?
