Sooo, the first reviews of Resident Evil 5 are coming in (here's one [http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=208483]), a game I'm really looking forward to. And the people in general are too.
So what do they generally say? They're a little disappointed.
Oookay, why? The first reason is that it's more like an action movie, less like a horror game.
The other big reason is that Sheva's AI is a little... inspired by trigger happy kamikaze pilots.
Oh, and the controls aren't 'next gen'...
We could've seen all of this coming after playing the demo.
Personally, I don't like these kind of reviews. That is, reviews that complaint about a game not being what they expected it to be.
In itself, that's fine - we all have our tastes, and we can dislike something for not being the thing we want.
What's not fine is spreading hate about the things that we don't like without thinking about the people that would like it.
I'd like to mention P.N.03, an old game for the Gamecube. People expected it to be a third person shooter like Halo, but in a different setting. It wasn't, and it was disliked for it.
I went in expecting, well, nothing really but an action game, a very broad definition. In P.N.03 I found a very enjoyable top down shooter (with a 3D perspective).
I feel like this is happening to Resident Evil 5 now.
I'm going to buy the game, and treat it like any other game: I will not have (m)any expectations. I'll just put the disc in, and enjoy the thing Resident Evil 5 is, and not complaint about what it isn't.
Also, I've missed one point: crappy artificial intelligence.
Now this is actually something I'm going to enjoy. I like having someone to protect (and if possible mentor). I'm also going to play with friends who've never played a Resident Evil game before, and probably suck.
My playstyle in the demo boiled down to this: I gave all my weapons to Sheva (except one for environmental destruction and worst case scenarios). Then I told her to have fun while I charge the boss-like guy with my knife.
ROAR! XD
