about source mods...

as you probably know Portal has been made free for the next few days, if you don't, go install steam NOW!

right, so my frind has a mac, i have a PC. we both have portal. can he use portal to use source mods (i have HL2) and can we both play multiplayer mods?

i dont know if the modz will work with mac's but if they do and he can download them they i cant see why they shouldn't work.

Apparently not, because the free portal did not come with the SDK. which is needed.

It should work...

if he has Darwine.

The problem is that the actual program is an .EXE, which mac cannot run. But with the free and open-source program Darwine, you should be able to do it. You might have some problems (like missing DLLs) but if your persistent, it should work. I think if there are any available from Steam, they would work natively.

according to the person 2 posts above you the free portal doesn't have the source base,
does darwine have the base?

Unfortunately Darwine doesn't have the base, but if you were to get (ie copy it from a windows) then it might work. It would probably take a bit to get all the files in the right folders and whatnot but you will eventually get it.
