I am currently trying to set-up a LAN party for myself and a few of my friends. My biggest obstacle however, is the fact that all of my best MP games (TF2, CS:S, Borderlands etc...) are all on Steam, which only one of my friends has. What restrictions apply when you try to run the same Steam account on multiple computers at the same time? Does it log you off comepletely, or merely block online gaming? Also, do said games (TF2, CS:S, and Borderlands), operate on Peer to Peer for LAN or are they server-based?

This. One by one, log the computer in, (make sure the games are fully updated) set it to offline mode and log in on the next one.

I'm not sure if that is possible. I'd say you should just go and get The Orange Box - trust me, it is worth it.

You can run multiple steam accounts at the same time as long as only one of them is set to "online mode" at a time. I use this to share games with a friend of mine. Not sure how it works with allowing connections within the game though.

That's not what I said. I do have Steam (as well as legal copies of the games). My problem is just that my friends don't.

Of course I have the Orange Box! It's the greatest package ever invented!

By the way, thanks a lot for the responses. Did not know about the entire offline mode thing.

the orange box is about £15, tell your friends they must get it or their life is wasted

Let me correct that: make your friends get those packages as well!
