Lambda isn't cheap, is she? I main her (and Ragna). I haven't fought a human Lamda, but she definitely is cheap when score attack CPU is using her. I swear it's controller reading/abusing CPU reflexes sometimes. Tager always backdashes-Tager Driver at the exact right moment, Hakumen always counters at the exact right moment, Lamda always shoots you out of the sky at the exact right moment, etc etc.
Do you remember how borderline broken she was in the first game? She's pretty close to just "press D to win", and what you see of score attack lambda is what a lot of experienced lambda players are like. It's horrifying and her spammage just makes her terribly cheap as it's a major chore to even get close enough. And even if you do, if she gets even a single 5C on you she can just zone away.

Blah, out of all the characters, she's just cheap. Let's just say she's not well balanced....it's just good they nerfed her a bit in CS. But that's enough of a tangent for now XD
To be completely honest, I have no point of reference. I never played CT, and never planned to once I heard CS was coming out so I never saw/used/fought Nu-13. I really want XBL so I can see a human Lamda and compare theirs to mine.

My Ragna can't match up against Score Attack Lamda or Jin because he doesn't have a way to beat projectiles (sad for my main), but Tager can easily abuse his projectile invincible attacks so I have no problem and Hakumen can probably beat a sword summon with a well timed Tsubaki.

Ugh, kids these days. ONE person mentioned Zelda and ONE mentioned DKC. I'm not even that old!

And while those two are excellent examples of highly recognizable and/or just plain kickass video game soundtracks, my absolute favourite one of all time, that will probably never be surpassed is

Secret of Mana

Pure beauty, full of feeling, excitement, ominousness, sadness and hope.

Firstly: Seriously people, Mass Effect? Mass Effect 2 I could sympathise with, but Mass Effect 1 had like 5 above-average tracks (and admittedly 2 awesome ones - Sovereign's Theme and the end-credits song). Also, I saw some people nominate Half Life - and my irrational scepticism towards that game series prompts me to ask "link plz".

Anyway, onto my offerings.

Offering 1: the Halo series
I've never seen anyone criticise the music in the Halo series before (other than one troll on youtube, but hey, if he seriously believed what he said...)

<youtube=MLQxsDTqUKo>
This is one of the coolest soundtracks I've heard in a while. Same goes for this:

<youtube=WQyLgmNgl5Q>

The choral section at the end is very beautiful.

Finally, there's a piece in Reach which contains a whole collection of excellent classics from the series remixed.

<youtube=9E5qCuBq0ko>

Offering 2: Mass Effect 2
The music in ME2 is mostly just "above average", but a couple of my favourite pieces belong in here:

<youtube=dUXHBImQbw4>

<youtube=2U9FW0fY0cI>

Offering 3 (you really should have seen this coming): Homeworld
<youtube=8owXHUK-C9E>

Listen to this piece. Just listen to it. Tune out all other noises and immerse yourself in it. You get a prize if you tell me, utterly truthfully, that this isn't a beautiful piece of atmospheric background music that really gets across the vast, unnerving emptiness between the stars.

<youtube=2re702QU6Ls>

This is very good battle music. It's catchy, but far from generic - it's actually very different to most battle tracks. Hell, those vocals (I think they're vocals...) sound almost haunting after a while.

<youtube=FY1fVrI2NFQ>

This is also very good battle music. It sounds subtly deadly and ominous at first, but then becomes a disturbing tribal motif. It's one of my favourite pieces of music ever - if not my absolute favourite.

So, there we have my favourite soundtracks ever. Don't ignore them, many though they are. Your day will be better for listening to them.

Fallout 3 or the GTA games (3 onwards). I can't remember which one of the GTA games had the best radio though.
That's San Andreas you're thinking of but as a Genesis fan I also really loved the Vice City Stories radio and the Phil Collins concert you get to go to later in the game.

The Fallout 3 GNR is awesome too but way too short. It would've been fine for a normal length game but a game with that much content needs a bit more... make that a lot more.

Other games worthy of note: Katamari, Rez, and the first Alex Kidd game for SMS.

Lol wow I thought I was the only one. Every time I hear someone nominate Mass Effect for awesome music I can't help but think "Wait...that game had music?" It was either so ambient that it was not worth listening to, or just felt nonexistent, pretty much exemplified what I find wrong with todays VG music. Half Life wasn't much better if you're wondering, suffers the same issues ME had, it just never sticks out to be noticeable to any significant degree.

Oh, I noticed it. I just didn't think it was that great. They improved it a lot in Mass Effect 2 (as my videos should testify) but in the original it was mostly just simple electronic pieces without much depth (fun fact: I nearly misspelt that as "death". Simple electronic pieces without much DEATH indeed!).

Final Fantasy IX

Though all the final fantasies are up there. I know, my favorite OST is that of the Final Fantasy series!

Well it pleases to see that Homeworld got mention amidst the tide of JRPG music. Homeworld had a brilliant soundtrack that won the game awards.

Mass Effect and Deus Ex have good soundtracks, but those are good in the Background noise (what the Game-as-art club calls atmospheric). The best soundtrack to just listen to though is Stubbs the Zombie: Rebel without a Pulse my favorite being Mister Sandman and My Boyfriend's Back
