I've never given people hilarious names in games before, but i remember The Spoony One in his FF VIII review named one of the character's dog "Anal" so that character had moves such as "Anal Cannon". Immature, but hen that game had a person who had a wrist mounted dog launcher.

In ff9, when the party decides it would be best to rename princess garnet to avoid anyone finding out her identity, the best alias they could think of was dagger. I simply decided to rename her garnet, and everyone acted as if they never recognized that name.

A bit of a deviation, but in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire there was a club that was obsessed with a certain fashion. It's name was 2 words long, selected from a pre-loaded list, and you could choose it. Imagine my immature glee when I found that 'UP YOURS' was a valid combination.

In Dynasty Warriors 4 I named myself and my bodyguards

Bob (Myself)

Bobby
BillyBob
BobBob
BobBilly
JoeBob
Keith

Why Keith? Because it is so out of place.

In Mass Effect I named the Commander: 'what about.'

Udina: Well... what about, what about Shepard?

Another character was called: German. ;)

1) Start a new Zelda game
2) Enter name "I say"
3) Everyone now sounds like Foghorn Leghorn/British.

OR

1) Start a new Zelda game
2) Enter name "lol jk"
3) "You must save the world, lol jk!"

Ah, good times, good times...

Either ridiculously foppish names or the usual amusing naughty names.

In recent memory though, I've named my paragon Shepherd Dr. and the renegade one DJ.

And in Dragon Age: Origins, I had a character named Shon, which is from an in-joke (best way to put it is Sean Connery getting Woll Smoth'd, but different).

I named my DA2 Hawke 'Hawkey Hawke' just to inflict another level of torture upon the ugly balding ginger bastard.

Thinking about it now, 'YOUR MUM' would work quite nicely

'YOUR MUM' used BODYSLAM

Also, naming any character Kennith cracks me up.

In Final Fantasy IX if you decide to call Steiner, "America" then Queene Brahne will refer to him as Captain America insead of Captain Steiner.

I think the best use of the system is to name your character "man." It makes everyone sound overly relaxed.

"Welcome to the item shop, man!"
"The fate of the world is on your shoulders, man!"
"I will destroy you and all you hold dear, man."

I will either go for the incredibly immature to whatever name I can think of off the top of my head. I will normally play the game without abusing it first, but occasionally I will just because.

Start new game
Enter name: whore

"Hey, is that 'whore' over there?" or my favorite, "Will you stop being lazy whore!?"

In Front Mission 3 my dad named the main character Roger Roger Roger (As in, first, middle, and last name.) So you'd get hilarious situations where people would say Roger four times in a row.

I can't recall any instances where I've actually used the naming feature such a reason, but I've certainly been tempted on a few occassions.

One which comes to mind is naming Steiner in FFIX "Rusty", matching the nickname (which he hates) given to him by the main character. The irony would have been priceless... but I've never followed through with it for some reason.

"VarentInteractive has defeated EveryonesFun in a duel to the death!"

Immediately the tells started rolling in, lots of lols and grats. About a heartbeat later the GM's were appearing and demanding the characters to be deleted. They were not amused when I, playing as EveryoneFun, challenged a GM to a duel to the death. Tempbans don't hurt that bad, lol.
LOL and Grats. ;)

Ah, I remember the good old EQ days pre PoP... :( maybe i'm just jaded, but no modern MMO seems to come close to recreating the 'feel' of classic EQ
