I've started putting down the main character names into roles that seems halfway fitting from the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic cast.

Back in the day I did this a lot, I had a lot of fun with it in Pirates!
My dear Captain Fartybum, we are war with the Dutch, I charge to seek out and destroy the enemy's ships and towns.

Nowadays not so much, although my favorite name for a Commander Shepard is Cybill. and yes I khow her last name is spelled differently. (Does it bug anyone else that Shepard is in charge of a vessel and doesn't get called Captain? Because even if you are a Lieutenant and you are in command of a ship you get called Captain.)

It always looks like I'm abusing the character name in Mass Effect when my Shepard has the same first name as me: "Adrian," because then people think I'm being cute with the Half Life references.

Other than that, my brother has a penchant for naming Link "ASS."

I never abuse it myself, but I've heard a lot of instances of people naming their MMO characters "Nobody" or "No one"

"No one is primary!"
"I sold it to No one"
"I was gonna meet Nobody later tonight."
"I'm going raiding with No one"
"No one killed User63!"
"Player86 killed Nobody!"

During my 4th playthrough of Persona 3 FES, i decided to name my character the same as some other character,i think of a female party member.
Wich made some comments on Social links quite lesbic and funny, not to mention it confused my sister who watches me play most of the time.

A bit of a deviation, but in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire there was a club that was obsessed with a certain fashion. It's name was 2 words long, selected from a pre-loaded list, and you could choose it. Imagine my immature glee when I found that 'UP YOURS' was a valid combination.
'YOUR MUM' worked too, I think.

I remember in Red Faction 2 you could create your own bots. I made a really, really bad one, and called it 'yourself'. Then spent about 10 minutes laughing every time the game popped up with 'You killed yourself'

Think my rival in soulsilver was called 'rival'
Rival Rival wants to battle.

Pokemon Name: Haydyn!

Rival names: Brady, a kid in 4th grade who was going for the same girl I was. Still on my file, even though I finished high school last year. I use my Gold for storage,a nd when I saw his name I lol'ed so hard.

One time my rival was ******, but that was before I even knew what it meant, just sounded funny. Reminds me of when my little sister made "twat" in scrabble knowing it was a word but not what it was.

Zoo Tycoon: Michael Jackson the T-rex, Haydyn the surprisenly female wolf. "Haydyn has given birth." Wait, what the fuck?!

Friend's Name in Kotor: "I'm not Revan anymore, I'm Revan!"

Fable: Haydyn, Horono, Hayrono, I should go hook up my xbox and check all the names that began with H.

My Sims City: Nachoton

Friend's random shooter name: God. "You were killed by God."

ATV and Poker: My pets at my Dad's house "Duke" and "Yelnats" kept popping up on the PS2.

My most unoriginal name was: Dark Shadow, for SW: BF. One time it was D@rK=$h@D0w, the only time I ever had one of those names.

EDIT: How could I have forgotten the DA:O Dog: Mr. Nono?

The only time I ever did this was in Pokemon Platinum where I named my rival "Assface". I regretted it the whole game. It got old fast. So now I usually just name people in games their original names (Gold, Silver, etc. ) or after mythological figures (usually Greek, Roman or Egyptian). In PKMN B/W, Tepig was, of course, Hephaestus.

I don't really abuse naming in a offensive manner. I sooner go the overly unoffensive direction. During my playthrough of Pokemon Soul Silver, any Pokemon I decided to trade via the GTS I first renamed Steve. That way I could spread a Steve army around the world.

Similarly, I once pranked a friend while he was in the bathroom by changing the name of about 2 boxes worth of Pokemon to Steve. All of them: Steve. The only guys he had that didn't get renamed were guys he had gotten in trades. It took him a few days to change everyone back.

One of these days, if I ever replay through a Pokemon game, I fully intend to name everything I catch Steve. I would have done it with Black if I didn't need to learn the names of all the new guys. Alas, someday...

When playing Ocarina of time, I made a file named Zelda, because I thought it could give me Master Quest dungeons (the original Zelda had harder dungeons if your file name was Zelda so its not entirely unreasonable). It did't work but I played through anyway.

when I got to zelda, she asks link for his name. And she'll say something like "oh.. that sounds familiar... somehow". It was hilarious when you read that dialogue with your name actually BEING zelda!

I have used "you hooker" and "you asshole" a lot depending on gender. It works in almost every scenario so long as they are speaking in present tense.

I used to pretend those were bands because they didn't make sense as phrases but there totally could be a band called ELECTRIC ADULT, also since when do phrases have "licensed clothing"

OT: Besides the rival in Pokemon I can't really think of anything, I guess I named my starter in Sapphire "Go" specifically so the trainer would say "Go!Go!" whenever he was sent into battle, and I named my rival "Phallus" in SoulSilver.

I love abusing the enter your name feature.
I have several Blood Elf Paladins named Fagballs in wow, I have a hunter named Assburgers, a mage called Sniffledicks and a warlock named Rapesandwich.

In most other single player games I generally go for Cockmongleay or if that doesn't fit Cocksmokes or the aforementioned Assburgers.

Also nametags in TF2... My spies revolver is named Cockmongley and his knife is Le Douchebagette.

With last names like Hawke and Shepard, it's as if BioWare anticipates if not actively encourage this kind of abuse of the name entry system. They think of almost everything, don't they?

War Hawke, Gos Hawke, Sparrow Hawke (who can be designed after the base form of the Fable 2 protagonist to boot!),Mike Hawke, York Hawke, Were/Wear Hawke, German Shepard, Good Shepard, Bad Shepard, the list goes on.

Naming the main character of Dragon Quest 8 LoverBoy, naming the main (female) character of Dragon Quest 9 LoveDove, calling Tidus in Final Fantasy X DreamGuy, giving the cast of Final Fantasy 3/6 1990s era X-Men character names (Terra was Morph, of course while Celes was Rogue, etc.) or using Namingway to rename Cecil Bat-Man (he does start the game as the Dark Knight)in Final Fantasy 2/4 are other silly ways to play around with the feature that make it an even bigger shame that video games don't use voice synthesizers to pronounce player given character names aloud.

This is pretty much the only time I've done this,
Final fantasy 1
Warrior -> Dicker
Thief -> Asser
White Mage -> Milfer
Black Mage -> ****** (No, I'm not racist but have you played FF1? the black mage is darker than a moonless night!)
horrible, I know but I was hoping that one of the bosses would go "Oh, DAMN!" right before a fight

The only other time I've abused the naming power was in Oblivion. I created (not modded) this 97 damage all, touch spell that I named "Rape ;)"
