So Assassin Creed 3 is set in the American revolution, which is a pretty touchy time in history. And of course, some very 'sly foxy' news team will find some sensational part of it to attack. But the weird thing is that this is a Made in Canada game. So i wonder how the situation will pan out in the long run as a PR situation.

Because American developers have never made a game set entirely in Japan...

Or Japanese developers have never made a game set entirely in America...

Or the British, Germans, Australians, and Czecks have never made a game set entirely in America...

No, it's the fact that the game is being made by a CANADIAN studio that blows your mind. Just ignore the fact that Ubisoft Montreal has developed EIGHT DIFFERENT TOM CLANCY GAMES over the last 10 years*.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction

Oh, and Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6: Patriots is coming out in 2013.

This statement also forgets that Americans also work in Canada as well, It's not entirely just people who are from Canada.

Why does the game being set in the american revolution matter so much?
Because they fear CoD-isation; pandering to the American audience and going all out on the "'MERICAH!!!" instead of presenting an intriguing story full of the usual conspiracy stuff.

How are people thinking its offensive? and how is the fact that it is made in Canada make any difference?
Because they're not Americans themselves, and hopefully less likely to go all "'MERICAH!!!"

I'm sorry but as soon as you said "'MERICAH!!!", this is all I could think about...

OP, kinda what everyone else said, ubisoft Montreal have made games that are based all around the world, if American's are going to get upset (which apart from maybe Fox News, they won't) shouldn't the Italians?

Because, unfortunately we're home to a number of "My Country, Do or Die" types, who think that everything we've done has been perfect and shedding any negative light on our history is apparently bad.

And unfortunately, these people have TV shows.

Got me there.

Personally, I'm more interested to see how the series survives the geographic and temporal transition.

For one thing, I don't know if many non-americans know, but it was rare to see a building over 3 stories in the US before the 20th century.

Add in the increased use of guns, and I wonder how the AC gameplay is going to transition.

This.
People are worried that the game is going to just go "MERICAH!!!" and be all about killing those evil British while they drink their damn tea.

No one worried when the game was set in the Middle East or Italy, why does it become a discussion point when it's set in America?

Even if we wanted to set it in Canada, I hate to admit it but save for a few highlights, our history is goddamn boring. Regardless, back to the initial idea, the fact that they're Canadian means nothing, as another poster said, Japs have made games about Americans, Americans make games with Brits and the world just keeps on spinning

Suppose I should clear things up here:

No, it's not important and never was. This is just a way of getting AC3 some much wanted attention. As we've seen countless times in the past, "controversy" is a great (albeit annoying) way of gaining the publics attention.

The very fact your talking about this means Ubisoft has got what they wanted. What? You thought they wern't in on this? I bet you a pretty penny that Ubisoft themselves "leaked" this information out for hungry newshounds to pick up.

Only in the US would this be an issue. Even then, I think the people dull enough to object to this on the basis of patriotism probably aren't smart enough to figure out where it's made.

No big.

Now if it were the War of 1812. I could see that causing like a little bit of a stir. Maybe a few threads of people arguing over who won the war and such.

But the American Revolution? Nah.

AC:3 was made

I salute thee, fellow YGO:TAS watcher.

OT: irrelevant point about AC3 is irrelevant. The juicy part is where Ubisoft forgets that they already established George Washington as a templar in AC2...

I also feel like I'm missing something....Is this suppose to be controversial? I'm a USican, and I don't feel the revolution is particular flame inducing (Though, Brits could feel differently?)

Maybe, if it was the Civil War or something.
