AC4 developer states that optimizing a PC port isn't necessary.

Not particularly surprised this is coming from Ubisoft; they are only beaten in stupidity by EA.

I'm just going to stop here, because apparently wanting to not be accused of being a bloody thief means I have a false sense of entitlement (which is the proper term you're looking for, by the way; I'm perfectly entitled to be angry at Ubisoft for calling me a pirate when I'm not, as it so happens). Responding to anything further you've typed would inevitably just wind up with me getting a warning, and I enjoy having no warnings on my record here.
I'd like to add that having installed Black Flag today, I can tell you it runs like a dream on max settings on my two year old, modestly priced PC, in the dead of summer when my CPU is a significant number of degrees higher than normal.

Also, a sincere apology for my phraseology.

We are talking about going from Xbox One and PS4 to PC, not last gen. They are pretty much mid-high end range as compared to PCs already. Why waste the money and resources on something that really doesn't need that much tweaking. People complain about high-priced games already.

I'm more upset that with the latest assassin's creeds they've stopped supporting 3D vision. 3D is the best graphical enhancement I've ever discovered since AA.

Really?? If you think the next gen system is in the mid-high range then you better look at what high range PC's have. Because the next gen is at best really middle tier of power.

1. Millions of PC gamers are filthy thieves, and fuck them for it. I don't even recommend PC games to one of my friends anymore because his first stop to pick up a copy is the Bay.
I wonder what the percentages would be if the pirate vs buyer was worked out for console and PC.

I would imagine that they'd be fairly close.

I know more people who pirate their games on the 360 and PS3. Hell they even have their handhelds modded to play pirated games.

As far as optimization for MY rig goes, it comes down to "does this game favor nVidia & hate AMD?" That seems to be the case a lot lately.

I've had my eye on the Assassin's Creed, Farcry, Saint's Row, GTA, & Skate franchises for some time, but all my broke ass can afford to play these days is FTP MMOs. ::sigh::

So they'll expend the frankly ridiculous amount of effort to get a game to look and play properly on a system with hardware that is currently beaten by most tablets but not something that is much more powerful and could run the game if they put a little effort in? That's just insane. Ubisoft will never see another cent from me so long as they treat pc gamers like this.

A poorly optimized game can run like shit on even a powerhouse of a system. It's pretty infuriating to have what could be a fun game ruined by poor optimization.

Another thing, is it fine to do crappy work and then expect people to pay you for it? They definitely still expect people to pay for it. They wouldn't bother with a port if there wasn't potential profit. I don't think asking them to not half ass it is unreasonable, especially when they delay the release a month(which isn't a long delay and I wouldn't mind if they spent it actually doing something).

There is a difference between what you believe is considered high-end computers and the consumer distribution of high-end computers.

This is nothing to get upset about really. A budget PC with, say a $150 GPU thrown in is so much faster than a PS4, it should any port fluidly, at a high native rez and some AA.

I only played their series up till AC2 brotherhood, but I never had any issues a couple years ago, using only a hd4870. Not the fastest card.

There's bigger issues, such as intrusive DRM.

I'm fortunate when it comes to my rig and AC4. The only times I notice any issues at max settings is when my view is blocked by smoke from a fire and during a cutscene at night with Blackbeard. Otherwise it is faultless.

But friends of mine who slammed down a good $5000 for their rigs (I only spent a lil over $1k) and have specs that ROFLstomp over AC4s recommended settings and yet the game is damn near unplayable for them.

The point is, PC gamers are entitled.

That is, entitled to a product that works.

People talk about how many PC players jump on to certain torrent sites to download their games illegally.

I havent seen a torrent for a popular game yet that didnt have damn near equal numbers of downloads/seeders/leechers between PC and Console releases.
