Good thing I'm anti racist. All my comments, insults and questions never evoke any kind of racism. call me pompous if you want but it's true.

ANYWAY, look, just turn off your mike. those douchebags online could care less if you hate what they say, it's their job to flip people off, thinking those people can't hurt them and assuming adults swear and are rude to one another, as well getting worked up on the slightest bit of controversy.

keep your mike off when playing with strangers and only turn it on when playing with friends.

Well. The accent thing might be because there is no way of judging someone over Xbox, except by their accent. and I think insults are generally spawned from Xbox Live because an awful lot of people on there are idiots, but also because essentially it's a consequence-free environment. You can slag someone off for fun and no-one will get you for it. If you can easily take verbal abuse, and are good at making up comebacks quickly, then it can be downright hilarious.

Everybody is racist, sexist and nationalistic ... just that many people are polite enough to pretend they're not. People on XBL lack this ability.

I'm American and I think we have the worst accent in the world. It's not cool, not fun, and not menacing in any way (except the American Southern one). Regularly, I find myself choosing instead to speak in accents from other places. Of course, since the only real exposure I have to other accents is media, I probably sound like an insulting caricature.

I play on XBL, but very rarely wear my headset, because there are way too many 13 year old idiots with Xboxes...

Yeah I don't talk on Xbox Live unless I'm with my group of friends. Especially with MW2. Never have I seen a worse community. Racists, bigots, people just looking for arguments, it's fucking bullshit. I expect Americans to take the piss out of my accent, it's a national perk. I'm English, and evidently we're a bunch of fucking morons, I routinely witness other English people get narky at Americans for being American, and then get narky at other English people cos they're from a different city or support a different football club. It's fucking ridiculous.

These are generally the same assholes who run around with an Intervention for quick-scoping and akimbo 1887s for all round douchebaggery.
While I generally agree with you, there still are some decent people online. The problem is that MW2 sold so many copies, and a such there are a whole army of kids who've just came off the campaign thinking that they're FPS gods, only to get their ass blown off then served to them on a silver platter. They use underhanded techniques and cheap weapons to increase their kill scores, and then act like they're better than the rest of us. They usually get killed by me online anyway, so there goes their superiority complex.

Mouthy bunch though.

I think it's because the Americans are jealous. Usually if anyone from here hears someone with an accent we're automatically enthralled. I would take comfort in that, my Irish friend.

My problem is that I'm a girl without a super high-pitched voice so I get confused for 13 year old boys. This one guy (major, major A-hole) refused to believe that I'm an 18 year old girl (or I was 18 when it happened). Or my favorite some Southern accent (US accent) told me: "Hey Se'ondmateFli-ant! I'm guh-uh eatchew!" (Hey SecondmateFlint! I'm going to eat you!). My team beat him pretty bad and right when I was going to tell him that he was going to be eaten, he got off.

Getting back on track, they're probably just jealous. I would revel in that.

I'll be honest, I never actually heard of any anti-Irish views (well, there's the alcoholic view, but that's it). Most people I know view Ireland generally positively. My only problem with Ireland to be honest is how religious it is and The Troubles which are generally over-looked by most people. I also admit that Irish accents are at least absolutely great.

However, I'm not surprised at the amount of abuse you got. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, from experience, breeds stupidity. There's only one person I know who is very much addicted to Modern Warfare 2 still and he's a racist homophobic chav that supports the BNP. To be honest, I don't even use a headset on X-Box 360 just because of anti-English abuse from Americans, homophobic talk (I don't enjoy hearing about why X is a complete and utter fag, because sexuality is apparently relevant to FPS behaviour) and other very annoying things.

Well generally I think political correctness makes us think that if you have a British accent of any sort you are instantly racist to everyone else who doesn't.

Well I am not racist and I don't think of Irish people as stupid.

If I'm entirely honest, whilst I abhor racism 100%, I hate the knee-jerk anti-racism MORE.

(Disclaimer: not meaning the OP is anti-racist)

What's antiracism? Remember the outcry when ResEvil 5 was announced because it had black people in it? That's anti-racism (sure the game turned out to be racist anyway, but we didn't know that at the time)

The kind of people who will scream racism without any provocation. I remember a fight broke out because one guy said his black mate was "shit on Halo" and another guy immediately assumed he inferred the black guy was shit because shit was brown or something equally preposterous. That was his reasoning. I think he got expelled

Yeah, this is why I don't really play online on anything other than the nicest of communities on the PC. Anonymity makes assholes asshole-ier. Just wave it off man, I'm Irish, and I get that shit sometimes. Thankfully, I don't have that much of an accent, so most people don't notice.

Welcome to the Escapist, by the way.

Where do ye hail from?
Happy now that you have someone to complain about stereotypes with?

If they don't insult you for being Irish, they'll insult you for something else. Let them say what they like. It just makes them look like the idiots. And if it bothers you that much, several people have mentioned the mute button already.

Just ignore most people online. That's generally a better idea then even bothering to sort through their crap.

I played FIFA online, and I came to conclusion I preferred the personality of the computer nine times out of ten.

Fixed that for you.

Indeed, these little 12 year old squeekers ruin the comunity. The age limit for this game is 18. Fair enough im 16 but at least my voice isnt 5 octaves outside the human scale of understanding and 1 inside the scale of PAIN!
