According to Shane Black, Iron Man 3's Main Villain Was Originally a Woman

There was already a nerd-rage inducing part to that film so having a woman as the true villain would have gotten a double whammy of whinging dickheads.

Honestly though given Tony Stark's status as the world's most epic poon-hound he'd be very vulnerable to a femme fatale type character.

Ultimately, I think Iron Man being characterized as somebody who beats up women would probably make him a less desirable figure than the villain figure being female instead of male.

This proves it. Even when we have a credible explanation, straight from the horse's mouth (so to speak), people will still jump to any conclusion that reinforces their existing political biases.

I knew this already, but it's still incredible to see it occurring in the wild. Humans are fascinating.
Did anyone call Kingsman sexist because the main character fights and kills a women in it? It got some flack for the really awkward fucking-a-princess-in-the-butt joke but I don't remember anyone complaining about other stuff.

The whole "is it more sexist to hit a woman or refuse to hit a woman" thing comes up in real life but I'm pretty sure everyone recognises that fiction is different. At least that's been my experience.

The crazy thing is that the henchmen in Iron Man 3 were surprisingly diverse. Men, women and ethic minorities. And I don't remember anyone complaining when they all got mowed down via Tony's private Iron army. Hell, I remember watching it and thinking "Hey, this is kinda cool."

Eh, they probably have a point business wise. Although I gotta wonder how many kids were clamouring for a toy of Killian from Iron Man 3.
The general conscientious about him seems to be "What was his name again?" I mean how many freaking toys of Who Cares TM did they actually sell?

Yeah, I had to look up his name.

Makes sense. The... "Reactionary" types would probably go into full hysterics at the idea of a Cis White Male beating up a woman.

Given such types have dogged comics for decades at this point it's not really a surprise that Marvel is pretty wary of triggering a response from such people.

Except in Iron Man 3, the very movie we're talking about, Stark, the hero, beats the crap out of a female attacker.

...

Are... are you people even trying?

I guess since I'm not invested in the toys it doesn't really do much for me either way, but a fire/lightning bending Rebecca Hall would have been funny. Of course, since what the Mouse wants the Mouse gets, and what the Mouse wants from Marvel is the complete control of all of the little boys in the world (the Mouse's Princesses doing so for the girls), the amount of Estrogen in Marvel needs to be limited. *sigh*

...oh god I could imagine the flames continuing for about a month longer at least. Not -only- switch up who the bad guy is, but switch his gender, too? The butthurt from salty comicnerds would have made its own sink-hole.

Ah, this thread.

Director: It was because of toys.
People: I bet it was SJW's. Somehow I can make this about SJW's.

Bruh.

Also, male heroes fight female villains sometimes. Not enough for my liking, but sometimes. And the world does not end. Remember Bruce Willis kicking the shit out of that lady in 'Live Free Or Die Hard' because I certainly do. It's a thing. It happens. Why are we trying to rewrite history and pretend it's something we never see or would never accept?

I was more henchwomen in games and movies and media. Fuck it, more ladies everywhere. Good and bad. Also why is henchwomen not a word? Screw your wiggly red line, spell check.

Because we like to rigidly enforce a black and white worldview upon a world that is usually more shades of grey?

Also, because there's a lot of mileage to be gotten out of claiming "SJWs will hate this." But probably mostly the first point.

Also:

I can see the headlines now. "Salty SJW declares spellcheck sexist." XD

Is that why the Female Sidekick and Evil Henchwoman always fight eachother instead of anyone else?
Pretty much. It's happens a lot in Video games too.

There's a few exceptions of course.

But, I mean, for example, Borderlands.

You spend the vast majority of the game killing topless men. There's like, two female enemies in the whole game.

I don't think there's any generic enemy mooks, they're all male.

So, essentially, in Borderlands, you can play as a woman who kills endless waves of topless men.

Imagine the uproar to that if the genders were reversed? We'd never hear the end of it.

I actually don't think they made any toys of the villain anyway. Or at least no one else that I have seen talk about this have been able to find evidence that a toy was made.

There was the reliably spoilerific LEGO, but they brickify every named character anyway.
Yes of course. LEGO makes all the toys for all the movies.

I've been told I'm very literal, and I feel your statement isn't true enough.
I honestly wish is WAS true, because there are plenty of movies (and shows and other things) that have been licenced by nockoffs that I refuse to buy because they're of lower quality.

Iron Man 3 was a buddy comedy disguised as a superhero movie.
War Machine didn't have nearly enough action, are you thinking of Iron Man 2? Because that was Rhodes at his best.
Yeah probably. Iron Man 3 was weird, more like Tony Starkman or something. I enjoyed it though.

What?

The SJWs are too blame for Iron Man 3 being rubbish? When will political correctness end and poor hard working writers be allowed to have female characters in their movies?

Yeah, that's Disney for you.
It's Marvel actually. Their current Kingpin doesn't like females very much.

Ike Perlmutter, right? Well at least he's been pushed off the creative council for the movies, though he's still in charge of TV. (a lot of people who seemed to be bailing from the marvel movies changed their mind once he was removed)

Guy is a notorious cheapskate, and hails from a toy company, and is possibly the main source of the female characters being kept out of the toys and merchandising.
