Here's a thought: if someone calls you a cheater (and you AREN'T), they are simply irritated that your better than them. So think of it like this:

"You're a hacker" = "You are very skilled"
"Stop cheating!" = "Please stop being so very, very awesome and allow me a chance to kill you just once, pretty please?"
"H4X0R" = "I am a sad, lonely child with poor grades and a horrible life and I need to defeat you or else my parents will beat me. With sticks. Oh God it HURTS!!!"

Now I feel much better!

We had this friend who was always an incredible shot in counterstrike, unreal tournament, etc, to the point where my buddies would accuse him of cheating and I would defend him.

Then years later we found out he ACTUALLY WAS CHEATING THE WHOLE TIME. Bastard.

Diablo 2 has random generated maps. I am very good at the game, guessing where to go is a strength of mine, dumb luck I guess. I always got accused of cheating when I chose the right path when there are four to chose from. People should be grateful we rarely had to backtrack and cover the entire map to find the thing we were looking for.

My brother can get accused of aimbotting occasionally on UT2004, but all players get their lucky days.
Can it be proved? Well I managed it once. InstaGib on Facing worlds, and someone on the other team repeatedly gets to a spree of 15 in 10 seconds. Everyone accuses him of aimbotting, of course. I take action, swap teams and start pissing him off by shooting him of the tower. His mistake was to then aimbot on me in the flagroom, where I could see him hitting the exact same place on me, every shot, regardless of my movement. BUSTED.

They jump on so quickly because it is so easy to cheat in all pc games and about 1in20 (for me) do. I've gone onto cod4 servers where 8 of 10 have aimbots (I really felt sorry for the other 2) and I used to cheat starcraft, stacked 2 photon cannons on top of each other and no one knew wiser.

But you can't blame overseas to americans for accusing you of hacks, heck lag can make a HUGE difference (but in cod4, when ya spin around INSTANTLY, it's KIND of obvious) and make it look like you guys are cheating.
If I had been playing 99% of the people I play online on a LAN, I would do a hell of a lot better (which is why I own in Australian games)

I was accused of running a aim bot on of all things Starwars battle front 2. I was once asked by some one quite seriously which bot i was useing. I told them the one that put a little retical on the screen to show where my gun was pointing at any given time.

Of course i was also accused of hacking for manageing to drive a tank up a wall in the wookie area to get behind the barricad and over a foot bride in the naboo area .... i still dont know how i did that one actualy.

I get pushed away from the multiplayer experiance because of accusations of cheating, Just because I came first in these two games of COD4 doesn't mean I cheat! It means I shoot you before you shoot me!

Ive never played against a cheater yet though...

I've only recently got back into Multiplayer FPS with TF2.

Nearly EVERY match I hear someone wailing 'OMG HAX' or 'he's cheating!', however I've only experienced one case where I could seriously believe it.

We were up against a sniper on 2fort, and he was on about 80 points, 2nd player was on like 16 on his team, I kid you not, maybe a third of our team ever made it across the bridge even.

I was shot while stealthed jumping down from the sniper shelf as a spy. Then again a few more times when I went solder to rocket spam him into at least pausing for a bit. Was headshot before I even got around the corner, thru the wall.

Last one convinced me, went underwater, stealthed all the way to their courtyard, up the stairs to the back side of the sniper shelf he was on, and he's standing there already facing me and aimed at me, BANG, headshot on my stealthed spy. No way he coulda known I was coming and I'm invisible, yet he's sat there waiting for me to walk into his sights.

That's the only time I felt I was being cheated against. Just constant multiple, impossible headshots on invisible people behind walls who came from nowhere.

Having said that, one thing almost as bad as cheaters, good, skilled players who decide to make 'Newbie server #2' or whatever their home just so they can wave their e-peen by getting hundreds of kills in a row. Go play with the big boys now and let us failures learn how to play.

Ack, that was quite the rant... short version ' I hate cheaters, tho I doubt there's many around. '

Once in "Splinter Cell Chaos Theory" VERSUS mode as a Mercenary I got called out on cheating for accidentally perforating the lone Spy running around a corner.

I swear to The Light I couldn't even hear him (neither my headphones nor the built-in Sound Detection feature warned me of his coming then he's all "DURRR WALL HACK GO FUCK URSELF").

I usually take it as a compliment when I'm being called a cheater (I have my moments, really!), though they're not often. It's just when they keep nagging about it it becomes annoying.

But that's the part of playing on public servers. I try to stay away from pubbies.. as far as I can.

It's not cheating, but in Gears, I've been accused of being host too many times to count since I got to college. We run Internet 2 here and it basically does make me host even if I'm not hosting. The best time was when I got accused of being host by the host... people's logic confuses the hell out of me...

Only truly popular example of this annoyance of online play I partake of is the one OP mentioned; DoTA. Not only does that game have a very unfriendly community but score a single kill and you get accused of map hacking, cheating, or being fed.

Of course I am far from innocent in this. When a previously reliable teammate of mine starts getting killed repeatedly by the exact same person while they creep or shop and they say 'nice map hack', I'm tempted to believe in my teamie. Many is the time I've been killed from seemingly impossible distances or zeroed in on and ganked 5v1 while in fog of war, but screaming 'haxorz' at someone will do little if anything to help your situation: If you're right, someone like that is not going to suddenly repent and turn the map hack off just because you yell at them. If you're wrong, you've complimented them (probably the exact opposite of what you wanted to do) and made yourself look like an immature kid. So it only happens when I'm incensed beyond this simple logic (ie: fighting a professional Clockwerk Goblin or Stealth Assassin). Anyways, I don't play it so much anymore, partially because of this.

o do i have a good story for this one on cod4 me and my friends can fire are pistols very fast like nearly modded controller fast. but without the obvious machine gun sound that give away the modded controllers. now were also very good so whenever our team is winning by a lot we take out our pistols. in about 1/10th of games we do this in we immediately get accused of using modded controllers. some people are so idiotic that they pretend to tape the match saying there gonna turn us in and get us permanently banned. i always figure its just cause they suck and want to blame us for it.
PS. nothing has ever happened to us getting banned wise.

My little brother and I are rather decent Call of Duty 4 players, and my younger sibling has surpassed me in skill at the game. He now plays the game, not to be the best with a few guns, but to be best with ALL the guns, including the pistols. A hobby of his is to basically take the weakest guns in the game, and turn them into murder machines. Ala, taking the M9 pistol, and beating an entire team with just it.

His trigger finger is so fast, and aim so steady with it at this point that he has been accused of using a modded controller by both opponents he's defeated and even his own clan mates who faced him in cage matches. I find this all hilarious because I just watch him play and spaz out on the right trigger and rabid fire M9s and G3s while everyone says that he is a cheater.

As for myself, I've been accused of cheating and hacking because I know how to use a Grip Deep Impact RPD like its meant to be used, and have often shot through walls and gotten head shots using this tactics. But my brothers exploits are much funnier because people get real angry at his speed and accuracy.

I dunno bout ever being called a cheater, but I know me and my friend owned 2 cheaters on Halo 2. They had aimbot, and all that, and we STILL won the match. I mean, if your going to cheat, don't lose while doing it =P

Being called a cheater is the greatest compliment one can receive.

Unless, yanno, you really are cheating, then you're just a tool.

During my Counterstrike 1.5 days I played around with an aimbot for a couple of days out of sheer curiosity. That was probably one of the best things I've ever done because it let me see the game from the hacker's perspective. After I wrote up a report on it for a gaming community I was a part of at the time, I deleted the aimbot. That experience really opened my eyes (I was a total FPS noob at the time) to when it's just skill, and when it truly is hacking.

It's part of the reason why I think the call of duty style kill cam is one of the greatest things out there because you can actually see what the hell is going on when you die.

My favorite experience was playing Red Faction on PC online, my brother and I logged on and everyone was playing with hacks. At one point I killed someone who was flying fifty feet in the air while firing an hacked rocket launcher. I about bust a gut when I got kicked off the server.

I've been accused of cheating a few times. I don't think one of them should count though because the people that accused me of cheating were stupid. I was accused once because my mouse was jumpy(still is) and I happened to be playing sniper in TF2. Well it jumped up and straight to a pyro. However it just put him in my scope, not on the dot.
