I don't like achievement farming, though I could understand it for the Medic stuff when you had to get every one of them, since they just weren't good achievements. I have nothing against boosters (unless they're boosting on my team and being basically usseless to me), but I think it's a cheap thing to do and it robs you of the feeling of accomplishment getting an achievement is supposed to bring. As for unlocking the weapons, that isn't really a good excuse to me. It's not like getting enough of them to unlock all of the weapons is even hard to do anyway.

Before the requirement were nerfed greatly the ubersaw required every single medic achievement including the retarded ones. I still haven't figured out how to get the "uber 2 people at the same time" one. The ubersaw being a medics only decent awnser against having our protegee's killed by pyros, demos, soldiers, snipers, spies, sentries, heavies at close range, other ax crazy medics or scouts jumping infront of us i'd say that the use of achievent servers is acceptable and in come cases pretty much required.

I am ashamed to say I used an achievement server for medic (this was when you needed all 33 for the ubhersaw). But since then I have never done it, I got 86 achievements now.

I tried a Pyro achievement server last night just for the hell of it. It was stacked with spy bots, and there was one heavy bot. I was only a few achievements away from getting the flare gun, so I figured Why not? Well, it was the dullest 90 minutes of multiplayer gaming I've ever experienced (though at one point a player called another player a noob, which struck me as funny considering everybody was just burning up bots).

But while it's not for me, I've got no beef with the farmers.

What do you all think of achievement farming in TF2 and in general? Do you find it to be shameful or time-saving?
Eh, I think it's a bit lazy, but there's nothing actually wrong with it.

If there was anything even vaugely cheating-like going on I think Valve would start banning accounts that farmed (much like Bungie does with people who stat-boost on Halo 2/3).

I prefer to get them the hard way (all Heavy, all Pyro, 2 Scout and 0 Medic so far), partly because it makes me learn the character but mostly because it's more fun.

The PC Achievement System in TF2 is broken beyond repair.

1) Too many
2) Yeah some are funny and would be awesome to pull off in a real game, but honestly when is any of that going to happen?
3) DON'T MAKE 100% ACHIEVEMENTS A CONDITION OF THE WEAPON UNLOCKS!!!

I respectfully disagree, I think TF2 has better achievements than most other games. Mainly because they equate to something rather than arbitrary gamerscores.
1) There can never be too many, too many for a reasonable person to unlock yes, but that's what separates normal players from the nutty elite.
2) Most (95%) are perfectly possible with a bit of thought and skill, again some are luck and some require enormous time investment, but again they're for the nutters.
3) You only need two thirds of each character's achievements to get all the unlocks. To get the first two should be fairly easy for most players, the last one gets into the more difficult achievements and only completists go for 100%.

I think they should be quite difficult to get, otherwise they aren't achievements. Similarly I think they should be tied to the unlocks, otherwise there's no incentive to try for them.

A lot of the achievements are so incredibly damned specific and colourful that they're usually things you CAN'T do while just playing regularly. You practically HAVE to farm some of these achievements to get them.

I farmed both pyro and medic achievements and have no regrets about it. Some of the achievements will almost never happen in an actual game, ie 3 kills with an uber scout and igniting a spy who's flicking a cigarette. I need my weapons, so if achievements are a barrier that gets tossed in my way then I'll spoof as many as it takes to knock it down.

Don't go trying to get the stupid achievements while you're on my team please; get them on an achievement server or not at all. Achievement farmers are always a drag on the rest of the team.

Less retards ruining the normal servers trying to get acheivements.

I always go to acheivement servers, and never try to cover it up.

Oh, if only people who didn't really buy the game could get the actually good stuff.

I, for one, have about 19 Pyro achievements. And counting. A few rounds at 2fort and Turbine, and an average-playing team (in a server without lag...), a sandwich and some Coke, and bam.

The medic achievements are still retarded and HARD to get in a normal server. Kill 5 enemies with an ubercharge ready yet undeployed? Kill 50 scouts with your stupid unaccurate ... I don't know if I can call it a gun. So pathetic. Some made sense (Ubercharge a Soldier who kills 3 enemies), some were dumb (Ubercharge a Scout who also kills 3 enemies).

I don't know any skilled Scout who killed 3 guys in a moderly good team.
