For me it depends on the achievement, if it's something stupid that just requires hours and hours of pointless grinding, then I wont bother, but if it's something that's actually skill based, I'll usually give it a shot. [Example, if the achievement is 'Kill 50,000 rats' , it's not gonna happen. If it's 'Complete X without using Y' (where Y is something that trivializes X) then yea, I'll give it a shot.]

I never really try to get achievements, if while playing I happen to get one, thats the only way I will get one.

In general I don't really care one way or the other about getting achievements on my 360, especially when I look at a game that has online/multiplayer achievements that I know I'll never get so I'll never get all of that game's awards.

However, I did try (and succeed) to grab a few in ODST to get some Waypoint avatar awards before my free Gold account died (and my 'Net access with it.) My son's gonna love seeing my avatar dressed up in ODST armor.

I never try to get them. It's so much more fun when you're just playing along and you get a nice surprise - especially if it's a funny or quirky one.
Although one might argue that you never get all the achievements that way, if the game has enough replay value, then you might score quite a few - I loved Uncharted 2, and despite making no effort to get any of the achievements, I now have practically all of them by sheer dint of accumulated play time.
If the game doesn't have overall replay value for me, there's no way I'm going to grind out hours of the thing just to get all the achievements.

The only achievements I'm aiming are all of the Team Fortress 2 Achievements. I only have fifteen left >.>

I like them. And when I love a game I really like them. I only don't do the ones practically impossible.
For example I have all the RDR single player achievements and about a third of the multiplayer ones. But being the top scoring player in three consecutive online matches? Fuck you, I don't even want to try this!

I will get any achievement that I am able to on my way to completing whatever game I'm playing... But If I missed something or it requires another playthrough, I won't go after it...

I will go slightly out of my way if they look fun or if they are something I can do to supplement my playing without going to far away from it. Like the one from Red Dead where you put all hog tied woman on the train tracks, that was awesome. The one for doing all the ambiant challenges was really fun too especially the hunting part. Sometimes it adds something that you didn't think of doing before, like taking out a pack of wolves with your knife, I wouldn't have even tried that had it not been tied to an achievement, but it was fun so I gave it a go.

I don't like online achievements though, they just feel like a grind or a cheat or a way to keep you constantly playing the game, Gears 2 Seriously 2.0 anyone? So not worth it.

Games with achievements that I really liked, Fallout 3, Mass Effect 2, Assassins Creed 2, I have nearly all the achievements in those games as a result.

It really depends on the game. Playing Starcraft 2, the single-player achievements challenged you to do a mission differently or to do more than the bare minimmum to complete a mission. Getting those achievements felt rewarding.

I like going after achievements a fair amount, but I rarely spend more than a few days trying to get any particular one. There are exceptions, such as my trying to get "Diamond in the rough" from guitar hero van halen, which took playing off and on around ten months, but for the most part if I can't get the achievement in a week or so of grinding, I tend to write it off as a loss.

I'll do them most of the time. They add replay value to games I would otherwise beat and not pick up again for a long time. The only ones I don't usually bother with are multiplayer ones as they often require playing online a lot or coordinating with others. Add me if you're a trophy hunter on PSN!

I never look at the achievements available for a game, before I've finished it once.
After that, if I liked the game enough to warrant a replay I'll try to get as many as I can. Though I won't grind exclusively for them. (For example, still haven't gotten the gears of war 2 seriously, achievement.)

I really don't try at all to get them unless its a game I really, really, reeeeeeeeeeeeally like and want to get everything in it.

I'll go out of my way to get some (do this well on this level on the hardest difficulty, etc.), but there's definitely a line I won't cross. "Get 100,000 online kills" or "reach X rank with all characters" or anything else that requires hours upon hours of extra devotion can die in a fire.

Achievements and Trophies are there only if they add to the game or seem like they would be fun to try. So trying to fight off a hundred enemies at once or trying for a speed run, that seems enjoyable and I'll try to get them for as many minutes or hours as it seems fun to do.

If it's going to take hours and adds nothing, isn't fun, or quite tedious and thus takes away joy. Spending any time on it is too much for me. I don't give a damn about a 100 feathers.

It took many hours of my life but Fable 2's Completionist achievement was worth every second. I'm pretty dedicated to achievements and awards and badges and e-flair of any kind.

I'll spend time for one if I think it's a fun challenge.

Such as Mile High Club for Call of Duty 4, it was my fun and very satisfying when I finally got it.

I'll spend time to try and max out a game, but I won't do cheap things like those getting quick achievement point guides for those stupid kids games that give you 1k in a few minutes. I won't spend forever on an achievement, a few days max. Most time consuming achievement for me was the Seriously 2.0 achievement, got that a few weeks into Gears 2, repeated the last level over and over for three days straight and bam, 100k lifetime npc kills. That's about as far as I'd go, though.

Oh, and those "Get 10,000 kills online!" or "Play on the 7th day of the 7th month!" crap just suck. That's a filler for an achievement, they just do that to make you play longer. Give me a real achievement, like some of the Left 4 Dead 2 achievements and Fallout achievements. Those are amusing.
