with all the agitation that SOPA and PIPA have caused within the community I thought it pertinent to post this so that the word might spread.

if any of the "higher ups" at this site see this post maybe you ought to read the details included in the wiki, the global powers being suggested would surely make the interweb a much less free place.

I found out about ACTA yesterday and I'd be lying if I said I wasen't concerned, not to mention it scares the hell outta me! I've been spreading the word and its something we can still stop, just like we have with SOPA and PIPA!

If you're in the US, you can sign this petition;
https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions#!/petition/end-acta-and-protect-our-right-privacy-internet/MwfSVNBK
If you're like me and in the UK, you can sign this one;
http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/20685
There are some other petitions out there, either way sign away and spread the word people! After how we banded together against SOPA/PIPA, we can stop this, we need to stop this!

I haven't figured out why ACTA hasn't gotten as much attention as SOPA and PIPA. I guess maybe because it's the UN and nobody's really sure who to confront or what to do about it.

It looks bad. I like the part how no one seems to care that generic medicines are affected by this.

I'll be doing what I can. Who exactly do we talk to if we're Australian?

Makes me wonder if SOPA and PIPA were intentionally designed to keep our attention while this slips by unnoticed.

Read the Wiki page yesterday. From what I understand, it's worse than SOPA/PIPA for Australia, European Union, Canada, etc. Because WHATEVER the US approve, will basically have to be approved over here.

Just from a quick flick through on the Wiki page:

1. It's too late to do anything. Most of the countries have already signed a treaty.

2. It's going to be HUGE. They compared it to WTO, WIPO, or the UN. It's like the 'United Nations' except it's going to govern the internet.

3. They want ISPs to stop hosting software that can access copyrighted material. Which means no more torrents/P2P as far as I'm aware.

4. You'll probably see a whole lot more people extradited to the U.S. for copyright infringement.

5. We'll probably see something equivalent to SOPA implemented world-wide (participating countries).

6. Before you know it, they'll be allowed to view all personal data and internet history.

Maybe I'm just being an alarmist.

p.s. Correct me if I'm wrong.
