If you take practically all of the design leads out of a studio, is it the same studio then at all?

Infinity Ward should consider renaming itself really to reflect the change. Until they do, they'll always be targeted as 'that studio that used to have the awesome people in it, but doesn't anymore' I'm not saying it can't become something at least decent, but they really need to think about how to market and distance themselves from that debacle and move on.

Baaahahahahaha. Oh wait...
I'm sorry, but I doubt this will ever happen. True, the last IW game wasn't so great (according to some) but it was playable. This new Infinity Ward (minus staff, brains and skill):

"Its Call of Duty Jim, but not as we know it..."

Yeah, sure it will!

Of course, then we have to worry about the price of skiing lessons in Hell, but that comes with the territory.
ahahahaha, of this made me laugh so hard it scared the dog XD

OT: fuck you activision. it wasnt bad enough we had to deal wit hthe map packs and DLC you keep holding back from us poor, penniless shmucks, match me 9 out of 10 times on a map pack server, and re-release the same game time after time. but now to boot of your best developers, AND demand COD subscriptions? who do you think you are bobby kotick? Nintendo?

So, game companies aren't above taking the names of development studios and strapping them onto entirely new entities just to make money?

I thought they only did that with games, I will be honest.

Stohl is confident that the "new" Infinity Ward will continue to produce quality games, and will expand beyond the Call of Duty franchise: "There is definitely a strong shooter philosophy there, for sure. And I think that there's a short- and long-term view on the whole thing. But I think we're rebuilding a studio that can go off and build great new franchises in the future."
Funny that the thing that most bothered me in this article was that this Stohl character said that the studio can go off and build great new franchises, not great new games. Maybe I'm overreacting, but I guess it still says a lot about the state of the industry and its terminal case of sequel-itis... Sic transit gloria mundi, I guess.

Welcome to the modern tale of Frankenstein's Monster: Where one believes he can bring back to life something that was dead, and have the same thing if not better.

I seem to recall the good doctor died in the first telling.

As far as I'm concerned Respawn Entertainment is Infinity Ward....so in a way Activision is right lol
I am reminded of the Phoenix. The name Respawn helps.

"They are going to carry on making shooters or they can leave as well"
And its not as if Activision are going to admit that they screwed up pretty hard

He says that will make other games beyond the Call of Duty franchise, not create a new one. Doubtless they will turn into franchises though.

Strikes me as being just some generic spin, trying to put a few sprinkles on a bad situation. But hey, who knows? If they get good folks in there, or 'inspire' them to work like their lives depended on it, the new IW might produce some fun stuff. And if not, we'll all be waiting here to mock them.

wait, let me get this straight..... After losing 85% of infinity ward, instead of letting it die and letting modern warefare go to a better company, they are restarting it from basically scratch so they can keep the name or something for call of duty? Is activision seriously? is it april 1st already or do they just want to keep making crap on a company that they need to let die.
