This is why I won't be buying Black Ops. I thought MW2 was pushing it. Well he lost another sale. Not that it will matter since there is no doubt there will be thousands of COD fanboys purchasing it and Kotick will buy another swimming pool full of money. There are way better FPSs out there then COD and they don't charge you for premium services. If only more people bought games like those.

Yeah I can see how that would suck :/

I wasn't there in the early days. I came in after the cave and everything went free. My most epic "moment" in a game is still on planetside though.

It was on the continent with the little island in the bottom left with a single base on it. We (the Vanu Sovereignty) we defending with the red pushing the north bridge and the blues pushing the East bridge.

I got up at 9:30 AM. I logged on at 10. I went for lunch at 1:30, then tea at 6. I finally logged off at 11:30 having spent the entire day defending this island fortress (and it was a fortress by the end of the day) from the other 2 factions. Epic air battles. Constant skirmishes out of the base, swarms of infantry skirmishing around tanks taking on the mechs. Snipers lining the walls. It felt like a proper war zone.

So very epic. No game Ive played since has been quite like it. CoHO has got pretty close in a very different way.
I remember a fight like that that kept going and going but it was over something much less important, I was tr fighting the blue guys for a bridge, almost all the forces on the map were there, and the only thing around the brige was a tower that we held so there were tanks and max suits trying to cross it and getting blown apart by snipers and our tanks as we lobbed shells at them, and it just went on and on, it was pretty epic

We defiantly need a new MMOFPS that isnt trying to masquerade as an RPG (Pay attention Tabula Rasa) That new Global Initiative thing on steam just didn't feel the same :/

yeah but its not the easiest thing to do, Im not convinced a game with a real world feel would really be as epic as planetside sometimes was, I would love to see a planetside 2 but I doubt that will ever happen

Idk, scale up Battlefield 2 to mmo size. It felt pretty epic just as it was. No particular why, with reason with some software tweaks, server upgrades and the addition of the mmo prerequisite stuff like a faction safe zone, BF 2 couldnt be an awesome MMOFPS, thats set in the modern era.

I can't say that this business move isn't wrong, considering how incredibly popular the Call of Duty franchise is in the multiplayer online space. At the same time however, I was never motivated to get Call of Duty Black Ops to begin with. I'm getting Medal of Honor instead, mainly because that cinematic, blockbuster feel for an FPS single player campaign is something I haven't come across since Call of Duty 4. MoH looks like its set to deliver.

perhaps but the problem with real world is that it has real rules, future world has possibilities, real world has limits

Aside from all the blind hatred this will cause towards them, I actually think it's a bad business move from Activision. Gamers already pay for XBOX Live, they're not going to fork out for 2 subscriptions.

I certainly wouldn't pay extra to play a game I paid 60 quid for when I'm already paying Microsoft to have the privilege of raging at the TV every night.

Every time Robert Kotick does something stupid, a kitten in Mongolia dies.

Modern Warfare 3 is the last CoD I'll ever buy. After that, it's over for me and that game series.

I'm actually kinda glad that CoD has the ridiculously extensive fanbase it does. It keeps Activision's attention away from other games. Ones that don't suck.

I have the feeling this is going in the same way "Natal" went.

Give it a few more weeks, we are gonna be hearing a different story here shortly.

As much as Kot-dick is a jerk, I'm surprisingly excited for Black-Ops... well... maybe because I skipped Modern Warfare 2... they can go f*ck themselves if they announce a MW3 some time in the next year.

Microtransaction for good ol' COD... I don't see the appeal to keep paying for a non MMO game that I've already bought. Hell, I don't even see the appeal to keep paying for a MMO.

Most people would agree that CoD4:2 is for the most part "real world", yet the concept of a "heart beat monitor" is utter bull.

To the same extent Splinter Cell is based in the real world, yet conviction had a pair of goggles that allowed you to see through walls.

We have sufficient tech and potential near future tech in the real world atm that most ideas presented correctly can be fobbed off and are believable, though tbh I dont believe they are needed. Again I comp back to BattleField 2. Yeah ok the medic running around zapping people back to life isnt the most realistic thing ever but it works.
