Adam Sessler and his God of War Ascension Review: Bro's Before Ho's

I was actually curious to see what the escapist community had to say about this, if they have anything to say about it at all. Do you agree with him? Do you think he is reading to deep into it? Post your thoughts below.

I can't help but wonder if it wasn't for the recent controversies, if anybody would even think twice about this.

Personally?

The decision to include it was pathetically childish, a poorly thought out idea considering the recent discussions in regarding sexism and probably an intentional decision to gain controversy and discussion of the game more than anything else.

I don't find it offensive, but I don't get offended by much unless it's personal. While I don't like it at all, I'm not going to start crying out about the rampant sexism in the industry, as I think they probably chose to include it because of the recent discussions rather than in spite of them.

I can't see it as a coincidence that so many developers keep doing things like this when it gains so much attention. So the only logical assumption I can make is that they are doing it for that attention.

Or they really are that stupid, but I try not to be cynical all the time.

Inb4 OMG WHY DO PEOPLE HAVE OPINIONS ABOUT THIS AND WHY CAN'T THEY JUST BE COOL ABOUT THIS LIKE I AM?!??!

I am starting to wonder if the constant stream of people doing "In before [something I don't agree with]" should be considered flame-baiting. I can't see what it adds to the discussion beyond trying to get people's backs up.

I've been a fan of the God of War games for years, and naming a trophy something that misogynisticly mean spirited seriously disappointing.
David Jaffe, I don't know if you were involved with Ascension or not, but if you were, then shame on you dude, you are better then this!
Oh I'm still picking up Ascension, I'm not letting one little trophy stop me from enjoying one of my favorite games series, but Watch yourselves Sony, Kratos has kinda become your go-to mascot-like thing, be smarter with things like this next time.

Also, holy crap Sessler's doing game reviews again? I haven't seen him since I stopped watching G4 (which was years ago) I'll have to keep an eye on this.

David Jaffe hasnt been involved with GOW since GOWII. As I have not played the game I'm going to have to take Sessler's word that the trophy is ill-mannered. If what he is saying is right then the trophy really is wrong and the devs should have known better. I mean "Bros before Ho's" really?

'Don't leave her hanging!' 'Totally baked' 'Blue Balls' 'Breaking Wind' 'Whip it good' 'Spread 'em', etc.

AKA, it's nothing new. Sessler should get over himself.

If people get upset over this achievement, they're probably being more sexist than the GOW team was when they made it. Which is amusing. And ironic. But mostly amusing.

Bro's before ho's is simply like 99% of all achievement titles a bit of a lame pun/joke.
if i was a cynic i would say he only said it as a bit of traffic baiting controversy generation where none exists.

Whether your a man, woman or minotaur Kratos does not give a shit. He WILL kill you just for being in his line of sight. No one will be shown mercy. If Sessler was a REAL fan of god of war he would of known that rather then be offended just because a woman dies violently.

So it all boils down to him being offended that someone died violently in god of war. (who CARES about the gender!) He lost all credibility and should only discuss E for everyone games if he's such a baby. You don't like violent games don't play them!

I have and you don't get the trophy because you beat up and kill a Fury (and there's a twist to that). In fact, it has nothing to do with what Kratos did but what another character in the game did for him. What Sessler is saying is very inaccurate.

Sessler is a hack and sooner or later, people will realize that. So on the subject of frathouse humor and bro-tastic games, he love's Gears 3 and is a huge fan of Bulletstorm. He clearly has no issue with Bros before hos or any other overused saying from the 90's.

I think this whole thing is about putting Rev3 on the map. Half of you probably didn't realize this nutter was reviewing games again. How else does the name of a trophy trump EA ruining Sim City or how quickly the media glossed over Cliffy B's ridiculous defending of micro-transactions. It's a trophy. A stupid joke attached to a pointless accolade.

I think its a stupid name for a Trophy, and the Developers should be criticized for putting it in. HOWEVER I don't think the game itself warrants criticism for it.

as for the violence it self, Its God of War we are talking about, its just gender equality and its hardly the first time Kratos has killed a female character.

The trophy has nothing to do with Kratos smashing that Furies face in, (she actually survived the ordeal without a scratch) it has to do with Orkos saving Kratos against his mothers wishes, that is the reason they named the trophy "Bros before Hoes" and only after that situation does the trophy pop up, not after the boss battle as Sessler implies.

Oh, and by the way, the title of the trophy was apparently suggested by a female if Sony Santa Monica is to be believed.

If I would have lost a little respect for the man, it wouldn't be from this video, it would be from the Sessler's something in which he asks everyone to explain to him the distrust between business and customers. And I actually didn't lose any then.

I trust that that was his own reaction to the name regardless if it was or was not a justifiable point to bring up.

Sessler being Sessler again. The trophy only refers to Orkos saving Kratos from the furies, not beating up that poor, poor innocent evil immortal being hell-bent on torturing you woman. And the trophy pops up about ten million years after the fight, it's not like it was synced up with the last stomp.
Seriously, lay off the misogyny accusations, folks, it's fucking Greek mythology.
