Let me just say that I flipping love soft drinks. It's got to the point where I can't even quench my thirst by drinking anything else anymore. I drink 3 710 m bottles a day and know its disgusting but I just can't stop it as if I go even a day without it my mouth just feels so dry.

I eat very healthy, with a good mix of fruits and vegetables and cook all my meals and I despise how much I look forward to the next time I drink another coke. I've tried alternatives, I love tomato juice / milk but I can't even drink them anymore because I'd rather have a soft drink. I want to stop so badly, does ANYONE have any advice on how to stop a soft drink addiction?

I quit cold turkey...and it sucked, the headache lasted for over a week! Once I was over that however I've felt great. No cravings at all after a couple weeks

Not an addiction. Smoke for four years and try to give up, then talk to me about addiction, man.

Yeah, no point cutting down, switch to tea, you get the caffeine kick and then you and cut down on the sugar with that. It will help the previously described week long headaches.

Your not doing yourself any favours drinking that much of that shit o.o

Stop and stop now before you give yourself diabetes.

You know, I never actually thought of tea as an alternative. I'll give that a shot.

Addicted to Coke? I'm not a professional, but I can offer the fruits of a hard 20 seconds googling:

Your body may have become adapted to a higher salt intake, as well, so you may find you have increased desire for salt while you're quitting the coke. A sudden decrease in your carbohydrate intake (which also happens when you quit something as high-carb as coke) can also cause a sudden lack of electrolytes. I went on a low carb diet fairly recently and the first week or so I was *exhausted*, then I read about the salt problem and some recommendations to drink salty beef broth or similar. It made a big difference.

Also, you're going to need to replace those calories with something, otherwise you'll be craving. I'd suggest butter.

It's not truly addiction, but I understand the craving. About two months back, I was having 1 or 2 soda cans a day (I had been doing it for a few months) and needed to cut down on my caffeine, and stopped altogether. Now I only have soda at restaurants, all water at home. Going cold turkey sucks, you'll probably have headaches for a week at the outside and low energy, but stick with it and drink TONS of water, you'll be better off for it. My energy levels are actually much better now.

I used to be exactly like that. Then I got this weird stomach illness, and I've gone 3 and a half months so far without any fizzy drinks. (God I miss them....)

So either find an alternative to them, if you wanna cut down. Or get some illness that makes you too sick to drink it* :D

It's not that you are addicted to the soda, it is the caffeine that is in the soda. Caffeine is a drug, and it is addictive. To quit just do it cold turkey or you will probably become dependent on another caffeinated drink.

When you stop drinking the soda you'll probably have moderate head pain for a few days, but other than that I don't know much about caffeine withdrawals.

If you continue drinking this much soda it will make you fat as fuck and kill you faster than smoking two packs and drinking a 40oz of Jack Daniels a day, no joke.

And honestly, if you can't quit caffeine cold turkey you're kind of a pussy.

Drink nothing but water for a month.

I'm serious, my sister used to be the same. She used to drink so much Coca-Cola that when she went without, she got headaches. She finally stopped drinking it by drinking nothing but water. She didn't even like water at first, but now she drinks it all the time.
And also, when your month is up if you want a soda, try fruit juice or a soda with no caffeine in it.

I've drunk around two litres of non-brand cola a day for almost 3 years now, i've cut back over the past few months.

it's just a case of little by little, drink other stuff just like your doing. You'll be fine.

Sounds like diabetes, chum. Almost word for word how a doctor described it to me once. Crazy addiction to highly sugary drinks.

Worth getting checked out, because what you're experiencing is not normal, and very likely an indicator of an underlying health problem.

PS - Also, it's terrible for you. Stop it right now!

Its not hard, switch to Sprite for a little bit. Then go to water. I did it in a year (and I wasn't even trying).

Have you tried just drinking water? You say your mouth goes dry if you don't drink coke all the time but fizzy drinks don't even hydrate you that well.
