AWESOME! The Adelaide Fringe Festival is kicking off! It's the best time of year in my home town! It's the biggest fringe fest in the Southern hemisphere. Modelled on the Edinborough Fringe, this makes for the best month of the year, every year.

I'm excited about it. We get loads of interesting international acts in largely intimate ways. In previous years I've seen musicians that normally get crowds in the thousands in a tent with a hundred other people.

If you care to comment, please do, mostly I'm just expressing my own excitement! Check out what's on (bear in mind this is a city of less than a million people.)

Edit: please note, I have ZERO commercial enterprise in this. It's a non-profit government endorsed series of exrtordinary events, many unplanned. I just LOVE it.

You've been here long enough to presumably know the rules about advertising. I understand that you're excited, but this thread doesn't pose any topic for discussion and just looks like an ad for the festival. I won't report you, but I will warn you.

Still It's the first time I've heard of this. Sounds pretty interesting.

I personally, disagree. I did invite you not to comment. This isn't about commercialism. This is about a fantastic socio-cultural event.

The Edinburogh Fringe is noteworthy, so is this.

I'm looking to see a bit of who cares, who wishes something like this happened in thier neck of the woods... so on, so forth...

This was in Sydney last year... I didn't know what the hell it was so I stayed the hell away.

I only remember it for the shitty advertising on Sydney buses:

"Don't fringe and drive."

What is it exactly?

Hit the link for programmes etc.

Basically, a normally sleepy town busrts into life. There's art, theatre, comedy, burlesque... you name it, it's on. There's no way you could see everything, even if you were specifically paid to try.

I used to like the Fringe, but I'm over it. I've been doing a bit of amateur theatre for a number of years and am over theatre. Stand up comedy is getting close too.
