I sometimes get a bit confused with the controls, usually only for a few minutes though.

The best example would be playing Oblivion then playing Fable 2. I forgot that the B button in Fable casts magic, and isn't the button for "map" , which lead to panic in the streets.

That was a fun day.

it only bugs me in FPS games. For example, right now, I've got three great FPS's, Boarderlands, MW2, and The Bad Company 2 demo, all three games have different control schemes, and it does bother me when a game doesn't allow completely customizable controls.

My preferred scheme has always been the Call of Duty set up, so, when games only change one or two things in the controls, it does throw me for a loop.

Only happens for me when it's a sequel or something.

Like in Mass Effect 2, it bugged me to no end that sprint was also "Use".
And hop into cover.

And hop over cover.

And cause the Apocalypse.

Multifunction buttons tend to annoy me when all their functions are very common.

I always remap mine, it's normally one of the first things I do in an FPS.
I tend to adapt quite quickly though, I'm playing quite a few games at the moment fine.

RTSs always seemed to be quite good with a standard control scheme.

But I've never actually thrown a grenade when I meant to crouch or something.
funnily enough the bad company 2 demo, several times i threw grenades at the chain link fence i was trying to cut through, and changed seat in the blackhawk helicopter when trying to fly, thus becoming a helpless passenegr as i try to figure out just what the fuck i did as it crashes into the ocean.

I remember most of the buttons after a few seconds, but, if I've been playing a game for quite some time, my mind just goes back to that, i.e. trying to melee someone, and accidentally throw a grenade because I press the wrong button. This happened when I went from playing CoD to playind Rainbow Six.

Generally only happens when I switch games in the same Genre.

When I started playing Mass Effect 1 again after beating 2 a few times, I actually had to go back and re-map all the keybindings so it was closer to ME2's.

It happens to me all the time. Its usually at its worst when I'm online. Recharging your powers in Infamous is the same button to lob a grenade in Uncharted 2. So I pissed off a couple of people.

I agree... honestly first person shooters should just agree on a control scheme for consoles already, no matter how "different" the games are they generally have the same functions. Everyone knows that LT is zoom and RT is shoot, but they are constantly mucking around with the other stuff.

I know I wanted to crotch punch fallout 3 when I realised Y was jump and not the normal A button... highly annoying, A is for jump, it always should be! if your game has basically the same actions as most other games, just use a standard control scheme!
You can programme the buttons any way you want in Fallout 3.

And the reason 'A' is the use button is because it's an RPG, and you tend to uise stuff an awful lot and it would be too fiddly having it mapped to 'Y'.
