my personal contribution to this thread is anything whatsoever advertised by that vince guy on the infomercials from the slap chop to the schticky thing. i dont care if he was giving away the the secret of imortality for 3 easy payments of $5.99 he can stick it up his ass. he annoys the piss out of me
I think you mean he can.. "Schtick" it up his ass. Vince is nothin', BILLY MAYS FOR LYFE!

Anywho, I know I've avoided a lot of websites because of their ads. Besides for the vidya game ads I don't pay attention to ads in general. I've never seen an ad on TV that made me want to buy something I wasn't already interested in.

Recently I started actually YouTube/Twitch ads on purpose just to see the general quality of them.

And holy shit, outside of the video game ones that are basically just trailers they're all awful. Nothing about the actual product, plenty of frat-boy baiting, plenty of retarded dumbasses doing things nobody would be that stupid to do in real life.

Well, hey, what do I know, other than it doesn't look like the brand of comedy I like.

At any rate, the poster is accurate, yes.
Plus I know that I have terrible taste in comedy (I mean, I really liked That's My Boy and Your Highness...). ;p
On the other hand, we are one in our utter hatred for "The Hangover".
The Hangover is terrible, but Your Highness was awesome. I mean, sure I saw it while I was in hospital and I may or may not have been on some medications that totally screwed with my brain & perception of reality, but still, my memory wouldn't lie to me, would it?

OT: Every ad that uses a baby or small child talking like an adult/dubbed over by an adult.

The ads for GoCompare.com

There was a whole series of them starring that fat annoying pricik.I vowed to never use that website thanks to how annoying those ads were
What about those fucking meerkats or the "i just saved money on my car insurance now i feel epic"

Im going to say that all insurance adverts are annoying as fuck. Why do they need to advertise insurance anyway its not like its optional. They should just have the same advert "we're going to rip you off because we know that if you dont get insurance you will get 6 points and that means next year we can charge you even more and if you dont pay again you will lose your license and have a criminal record"

I'd actually forgotten about the meerkats.Yeah they're annoying as well but I'd still rank them below the Go Compare ads for the simple fact that they don't have some fat bloke bellowing out a song at the top of his voice.I do firmly believe however that anyone who use the meerkats catchphrase "simples" in real life should get punched in the face

The Facebook home "museum" ads that the Escapist itself rsn for what felt like f****** ages were rage inducing for me.

The ad can probably be found on youtube but it featured some srlf-absorbed at a museum juxtaposing her shallow facebook social life over art pieces during a museum visit.

Every single ad that I'm forced to watch before I watch a video on the internet.

I don't care about other ads (I don't watch TV, I only have Netflix and Lovefilm for my TV watching), I don't care if you put banners all around the video on this website, but I cannot stand having to sit through 30 seconds of annoying ads everytime I watch a video... It's even worse if something doesn't go right and I have to refresh the page for whatever reason, getting more ads...

As I watch a lot of DOTA on Youtube (Better quality than livestreams and can be watched whenever rather than the awkward CEST times they go by) as well as a few people on this site (Zero Punctuation, No Right Answer, Feed Dump, Lisa Foiles and Jimquisition) I do run into a lot of these really annoying ads that delay my viewing...

I whole-heartedly agree, anyone caught using any advert catchphrase should be shot (apart from Hugh Dennis when he used to do the "are you paying too much for your car insurance?" thing on mock the week). people who still use out of date advert slogans should be shot in both knee caps and left in the middle of the amazon this includes but is not limited to "bang and the dirt is gone" references

OT: here are some of examples of how advertising can be done well

irn bru are probably the most consistant for good adverts usually because they are controversial or a parody of traditional cliched adverts

Simple. Adverts that are over the top about something not very remarkable.
For example, EVERY SINGLE DEODORANT ADVERT EVER.
But isn't that what makes them great? Making an otherwise boring product more exiting and appealing by being completely over the top, or by doing so making the ad watchable and fun (cough Old Spice cough)

All adverts which tell you nothing about the product/service especially this.
That had me in fits.

I don't avoid perfume because of the adverts though, purely because I couldn't tell you what advert is advertising what perfume. I just go into a shop, smell, and buy.

Ads that are overdramatic over simple things while not trying to be funny about it. I have guild wars 2 but I hate this ad.
Bauble gum, deodorant, jewelry and perfume seem to be the worst offenders of this shit.

This isn't a product but I hate the stupid shock safety and car crash ads they use to run here in NZ.
The car crash ones at least had a point but do we really need ads on putting toys away and using a fucking shower mat?
Though them trying to funny is even worse
Mandom? Mantrol? Mandriving? Its just so stupid.

I hate ads. If they're not extremely funny or have extremely good visual graphic effects or extremely good music, I get really pissed. I hate them on the walls, in the sub, on the bus, on the street light lamps but I absolutely hate them popping up in tv shows, games and movies and the web. I can't even look at the floor all the time to avoid them, because they are there too, usually on the stairs leading out of subway stations. I hate people who stop me on the street and ask, if I knew about this or that product or deal and give me shitty fliers that scream "BUY THIS!" (I know, they need to make a living but I still hate their guts and I hate their bosses even more). When I go to a super market to buy food, it's supposed to be convenient because it's all in one place, right? Well no! "We will advertize our products with agressive signaling colors and designs all over the place where you can buy them! We will put our sweets and booze right where you can look at them, while you're waiting in line! We will give you payback cards and still ask you everytime, if you have one and if you would like to have one! We will write "DEAL! SALE! ETC!" on every price tag we can! So you can buy while you buy! MUAHAHAHAHAR!" Everyone, everywhere wants to sell me something. It is very tiring for me sometimes...I see it as stealing of my time and attention.

Edit: Ohhhhhhh, I almost forgot: fucking unskippable/unavoidable intro ads in games. Ohhh, the nerve these people have!
