I'm 29 and I work for a big bank's call center as one of two advanced technical support agents. My partner and I are literally it for any customer the regular reps can't help, from the entire rest of the bank.

Most of the technical issues are easy, browser configuration or resets, turning off blocker software, mobile phone issues, etc.

Basically if I can prove to the customer it's their computer/phone that sucks and not our bank the issue is considered "resolved," so in some cases if I can show them it works on another computer, I refer them to support for the software maker.

Lots of Quicken and Quickbooks stuff. I don't understand why people use these things but there's millions of them and nobody understands how it works. I think I'm one of the foremost experts on fixing these shitty programs this side of India.

Sometimes we have tricky ones, like false security certificate warnings when the customer is using an old xp business machine with windows updates turned off. Need to update the root certificate list by downloading kb9311125, that was one of our most recent epic wins.

We also do all kinds of odd jobs around the bank, we write procedures and produce training materials for other agents so they can do more to help customers on their own.

I work at a well know global company, I'd like to say I'm from Arizona, but they're moving me to Florida, New Jersey, and Puerto Rico in the next 7 months. I'm also now officially US NAVY Reservist, was active for the past 6 years.

I would love to employ fellow escapist but unfortunately all 132,000 jobs I've been instructed to fill require a BA, to be fluent in Spanish, and to be living in PR and pay isn't even that good ranges from 36K - 38K a year :/

I run a software engineering company. It doesn't support my gaming habit, my gaming habit supports me by keeping me sane.

I'm doing a work placement at Argos, i.e. working for free. I don't know why I agreed to work for free, but no TV and no Xbox makes me bored, so I decided to do something, and somehow I managed to get a job that doesn't pay, probably should have thought through that decision.
I know the feeling. Like, the exact feeling. Only I start my paid contract with Argos on the 7th, after my five weeks of 'work experience' from the JobCentre.

someone's got to look after the kids during the day after school.
It is true tho people look down on others for some jobs but fact is someone has to do it a janitor is just as important as a doctor in my eyes.
So after around a decade in medical school/internship/training, a doctor who (hur) spends many of their days saving people's lives is just as important as someone who needed very little experience/couldn't be bothered to work harder (I know people that couldn't be bothered and became Janitors, so don't worry, I'm not stereotyping there. :p ) and clears the bins for the main reason that no-one else wants to?

Freelance translation, Japanese to English. Makes a fair bit, but I don't see much out of it (generally in the vicinity of $20/month), since most of it goes to my parents.

Oh, no, I always dreamed as a little kid that I would one day grow up and get to stare at databases all day until my vision blurs. -_-

[sub]I actually really like my job, but it's more fun to gripe about stuff.[/sub]
Same here, I got pretty lucky landing this gig...I was in college part time for like 5 years working towards something in aviation. Got my pilot license and everything then ended up in a career that has absolutely nothing to do with that...Remember kids, going to college will pay off! >.>
Man, that's crazy, I lucked into this job as well. I was studying to become a chartered surveyor, failed to get my grades up, and got this jobs as a six-month stop-gap measure to pay the rent until I could find other work or re-apply to college. That was twelve years ago. After the first pay-raise or two it seemed crazy to leave, and well, the rest is history.

I'm working for a major car manufacturer (American based, but around in Europe and Asia) as a go-between for a group of car/truck dealerships and corporate office.

To anybody who's worked in retail, I'm basically the DM that visits once every couple of months, turning your manager into a nervous psychopath for two days. Before this, I worked in the bargain department of a bookstore.

I'm an account manager for a full-service office supplier. I mainly stay in contact with around 150 customers and try to contact prospects occasionally. We sell offie supplies, but also IT-products like terminal servers, VoIP connections and contracts for mobile phones.

I love it.

Well besides the fact that not everyone has the time nor the money to be able to put forth to become a doctor, fact is it is the janitors who keep the hospitals in clean condition so that the hospital doesn't become so infested with germs and diseases that it is actually more dangerous to go to a hospital when sick than to stay home.

In my opinion almost every job is equally important in the grand scheme of things everything has it's place and if it had so little importance to people there wouldn't be a demand. Sure some are more obviously important but others have there place in the gears that are our society. For example the Garbage men and women keep our streets clean from disease and trash without them we would be wading in waste high trash to get anywhere. The mechanics who fix our cars make sure people like say those doctors from earlier get to there jobs so they can even help cure people in the first place.

Mind you there are a few jobs that are inherently less important like door to door salesman or telemarketers but even they have there place they help companies who don't have the funding or the popularity to get there products in stores get there product out to the public so they can slowly change there perception and perhaps expand.

People should have more pride in there work and take realize that everyone has a role to play and that when try and work hard at there job it makes a difference in the large scheme of things.

IT consultant for RCI. Basically just fix computers, update software, and provide EU support to employees who need it. It pays the bills. =/

Technically, I'm a freelance camera operator. I generally consider myself unemployed though, because I don't get paid if I don't do something, and they haven't had anything for me to do in about a month.

In reality, I'm just a recent college grad looking for a "real" job.
