When you guys finish feeling morally superior to some people who have committed irrelevant criminal acts perhaps you can address the Trans-Pacific Partnership, trillions of dollars in bank bailouts, or wars of aggression in the Middle East. Crimes that actually matter and have gone unaccounted for.

Big Brother Facebook watches as many of us as it possibly can. That's the primary purpose. It's the same reason school children are let into a small enclosed area for recess (yard, similar to a cage) - so that they can be easily monitored.

We've reached a point where people aren't able to be by themselves out of fear, so we are easily shepherded into high surveillance cages, and just like schoolkids we don't mind so much because we don't trust ourselves to shepherd our own lives. This is very dangerous for the prospect of what remains of human liberty in the near future.

An increasingly fearful, paranoid, and self-righteous populace tells themselves "If I do nothing wrong I have nothing to fear" and like the brilliant metaphor Nyan Cat, mindlessly twitters away on social media while shunning the Tor Project, Diaspora, and other anonymity-based software for being "nutty paranoid".

What's "normal" is often not what's right.

OT: I'm not sure what possesses people to do it, but I hope it never stops. Dumb Criminal collections are my favorites.

What in the f*** was that about?

I understand and get what you are saying, I really do, but this was just a little light hearted thread. Laughing at those dumb criminals who think doing something petty, is a big deal. You went to serious there. We are all just trying to have a laugh.

Pretty much this. I made the thread about dumb kids who do dumb things and only get caught because they are dumb enough to provide the authorities with written and/or photographic evidence

The crimes I posted were petty but I only mentioned them because they both surfaced on social media about the same time the other day.

The fact that a guy who was smart enough to aquire some crutches and a forged doctors note but was then dumb enough to post it on social media where the guys who own the themeparks have found out what he done

I wouldnt say we are morally superior we are just having a little giggle at kids who commit petty crimes to show off. Its the same kids who post about smoking weed. Noone really cares except the police who have basically seen a confession (or even a photo) for you smoking the old Mary Jane. Its basically like walking into a police station and admitting to it

the police have even caught on to the idiots and are clearly taking the piss out of them

This is the last bastion of intelligence in action friend. Let the wisdom wash over you.

Agreed. Crime is something that is going to keep happening. It might as well be funny when it comes to how they incriminate themselves.

Because the police aren't checking Facebook for the culprit behind a trivial offence that likely wouldn't even have been brought to them in the first place.

It's the people who post photos with stolen goods and in riots and shit like that that befuddle me. Still, it's entertaining all the same.

While we're on the subject, look up SA Wardega on Youtube. That's living dangerously.

Yes they are trivial offences. I said earlier I only mentioned these because they popped up recently. Not only that but id rather keep the thread a bit more light hearted

Its not so much the police finding out but the owner of the car is seriously pissed that he'd spent £250,000 on a car for someone to jump on the bonnet. I like a few pages ('Dai ling ping' and 'my gran') on facebook who are actually friends with the guy who owns the car. They are fairly popular pages (hence why its went viral) but its also been on news articles. Id reckon that pissing of someone who can spend £250,000 on a car is probably going to be a worse situation then getting a slap on the wrist from the police. My car only cost me £10,000 and I would go apeshit if a little scrote done this to my car.

As for the guy who got banned from the themepark. That was just funny. He tried to one up them and it backfired. He didnt exactly do anything illegal but he tried to fraud a company. Merlin have a policy of letting disabled people skip queues. He has taken advantage of this and shot himself in the foot

Because "smashing the patriarchy" or something related, at least as it goes on shoplifting Tumblrinas. Oppression points let you break the law because blah blah blah laws are made to accommodate cishet males.

Roots at bragging though.

I don't know why, but God Bless them. I always find idiot criminals reporting on their exploits on Facebook or Twitter to hilarious. Besides, the police are well aware of these things and actually do look into them. Tons of crooks have been caught because they posted a picture of themselves at the scene of the crime, committing the crime, on Facebook.

My favorite story of dumb criminals was the group that tried to rob a police station. Yep, you read that right. You can imagine how that went.

To be fair, though, if they'd been able to pull that off, they'd have earned their 15 minutes of fame. I'd like to think that'd be the motivation for something like that.

Some people are just thick.

(EDIT: Ninja'd.)

Many a criminal has been caught after bragging about their nefarious need in the presence of the wrong person, or confessing to someone who wasn't as trustworthy as they thought.

Same thing, different stage.
There is the classic one were the criminal brags at the bar about something he has done or is going to do. Happened in Swedish history were a person was trying to murder the king. Got drunk at a bar and EVERYONE heard of his plans. It didn't take long before he lived in the castle dungeons.

I like the one about how, during the London Riots, someone was on FB trying to organise one where they lived.

When the guy got arrested, he tried saying it was a joke, because he didn't actually persuade anyone to turn up.
