Certainly!
Advertising in games doesn't bother me much, unless it gets too heavy-handed or takes up time, and I tend not to play games made specifically for advertising purposes at all.
Good luck with your survey!

All done for ya!
Really, unless the game is specifically made to advertise a product or it ends up advertising products in a way that is intrusive and interrupts the flow of the gameplay or story then that is the only way it bugs me.

Hello everyone!

I'm a postgraduate student and a longtime gamer. I'm currently conducting a survey for my dissertation on Marketing. It is about advertising in video games, how video games utilize different advertising methods, how people respond to them and how they can be improved in the future. Hopefully, for the benefit of both marketers and gamers.

Please, participate! There are only 10 questions that should take less than 5 minutes of your time. I tried to make them as simple as possible. I'm using a SurveyMonkey service, it is safe and doesn't require any registration. The survey is really important for my work. I really appriciate your help and will be glad to answer any questions!

Annnnnnnd done. That took less than a minute of my time (Though I read rather fast)

Hope it helps you. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to ask.

It really depends how advertising is done in games. Anytime ads are in your face I hate them. I wouldn't watch an ad to play a game, but I wouldn't mind playing a game with product placement.

Thank you, guys, for the answers and for sharing your thoughts! Too few people on gaming forums are willing to do this. I was hoping the subject would be more interesting, or at least controversial. Really appriciate it.

I do not care so much about advertises in game as long as they do not force me to watch it or, if it stands out to much.

Advertising in a non-free game is unacceptable. I won't pay to be advertised to.

Thank you, CM156! If you don't mind, a few words on the subject would be really helpful.

I know, advertising can be very annoying. But it's hard to imagine a modern A-title without any advertising. The same with movies or sport events. Serious technologies, serious money and a lot of people involved. Companies have to seek sponsorship to stay in business. The question is, how to make ads less intruding into the gaming process.

What kind of words are you looking for? I mean, what specific things should I say?

Nothing specific, just some general thoughts, like whether advertising in games annoys you, is it getting better or worth with years, maybe what could be done about it in your opinion. Some examples of bad/good use of in-game ads are also interesting. There are already polar views on this matter, and it will be useful to compare them.

I don't accept the premise that non-free games have to have ads for their makers to stay in business. I hope it never becomes the norm that people think that way.

Well I haven't noticed too much advertising in games, but I'd be interested in finding out how many people it actually works on. Speaking for myself, at this point I only ever seem to be amused by ads. I can't remember the last time one affected me conciously.

I've rarely seen advertising in videogames, and I've played my fair share of Korean MMOs, so I can't really comment. I still did your survey though, happy to help.

I will publish the results here as soon as they will be ready and approved by supervisors.

I was trying to think of game that I've played that has really blatent advertising and for a while all I could think of was Fallout3/New Vegas and Nuka Cola. But that doesn't exist, so that doesn't count.

Then I remembered playing some MacDonalds influenced game on the NES, I think it was called Mic and Macs Big Adventure or something and had you running around collecting MacDonald's M logos. I suppose that was pushing it a even if the game itself wasn't too bad, I liked the antigravity gimmick where you could hit a switch to start running across the ceiling.

Then there was the 7Up Cool Spot games, they were pretty bad.

If seeing a real company billboard, Coka-Cola bottle, or rand-named car in a game keeps the costs down or helps studios stay afloat, then I have absolutely no problem with it.

And honestly, sometimes it would help immersion. 'Burgertown' in MW2 got a little silly.

Done. Pretty to the point.

I still remember the Pepsi machines in Bionic Commando.

I don't care if there's advertising in a game as long as it doesn't become annoying plugs (Ex: An entire level revolving around a building covered in advertisement billboards for real things).

Oh boy a chance to slam advertising, I'm all over this!
...
Ok, done.

Clarification on question #7: Yes advertising has influenced my attitude towards a product, but not for the better. Being bombarded by the goddamn TV commercial has made me bound and determined NOT to by the #*%@& product.
