Well with World of warcraft getting hit pretty hard in recent times http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.322316-World-of-Warcraft-Slips-Further#13195483

Im not surprised that they have brought out new commercials but the use of a meme like chuck norris seems a little sad to me...
We also have Apple's, iphone is magic commercial.
I haven't watched much tv in the last couple years since a lot of channels are in decline so maybe this isn't new but i find it sad.

Thought? More meme advertising?

Is that a meme in my game commercial?

Nope. Chuck Testa.

(I had to, I did. I regret it. Because it means my point about memes coming not-quite-full-circle from ad to meme to ad is now complete, ish, and that this self-perpetuating recursive cycle is bound to repeat itself, by sheer principle of itself.)

This is pretty... pathetic, yeah.

I never watch television to begin with, but this reminds me to proceed as is, I suppose.

That Chuck Norris one is cringeworthy, but the other one is actually decent.

Seriously though, the Chuck Norris meme has been dead/kept-alive-by-nefarious-cult-worship for a few years now. Couldn't they choose one a bit more up to date?

If this had been a few years ago and someone just said a 'what if they used in a commercial!?' I probably would have thought it would have been pretty funny and kind of cool. But now that I actually see it I'm not really liking it... Especially the iPhone/Ponies mix. I didn't like the iPhone or bronies to begin with... so combined... idontwanttoliveonthisplanetanymore.jpg

Memes just look embarrassing when they become widely used and especially for commercial purposes. It's like your parents making a gamertag and insisting that they play [insert popular multiplayer title] with you and your friends.

Although, in fairness, he has openly said that being a meme has had no impact on his sales. Maybe he's just not popular enough. Maybe people who follow memes don't need as much taxidermy done. I can't say. But the use of a meme does not make one successful. Quite possibly the reverse. Would we shop from the Foul Bachelor Frog-endorsed clothing store? Would a good advertising campaign for it be "Made from an odor absorbent material, so you can wear it for more than a month straight without it smelling!"? Do we require, or even ask for, Sad Keanu themed antidepressants? Do we don an awkwardly cocked hat and general douchiness for so "Scumbag Steve" insurance fraud commercials? Do we create an entire consumer base who buys a product with the Good Guy Greg stamp of approval, because he acts for our benefit? Do we just raid Quickmeme, FunnyJunk, Reddit, and others for cheap advertising?

To quote a man of an infamous stature, "I see no possible way this could go wrong."

The second one isn't really meme advertising. It's an advertisement for MLP using MLP. If it was an advertise for the Iphone using MLP I'd agree with you. Unless you mean the original Iphone commercial being a meme, which I don't think it is.

Or am I just out of touch with the internets? :(
