To be honest, I think I have insomnia. Sorry, but I wont be too much help here. I'd advise seeking medical attention though, if it continues.

I find that the most helpful measures are to make sure that the room is as dark as possible and that the temperature is <20 degrees Celsius. If it's aural stimuli keeping you awake, try investing in some earplugs or something. Even if it doesn't work, you'll be narrowing down what's keeping you awake.

I'd suggest doing some light reading before bed to calm your mind. If not, go to the doctor and get some sleeping medicine. I currently can't sleep well myself and need pills, but that's mainly because I'm just back from a surgery and had tubes inside my nose causing lots of pain -_-

But mainly try the reading first at least, it helps relax my mind before sleep, and it'll do some good for you :D I'd suggest book reading, but if you don't have any good books, then maybe some internet reading, though nothing engaging that'll cause your mind to stay active such as games or such.

It may not be something you want to do but if its interfering with your daily life its time to seek professional help. I have some sleep issues too but I take medication that helps me fall asleep.

Of course thats not for everyone. But I would at least see a doctor and see what he thinks.

Hope it gets better for you.
Thank you! I'm definitely considering it. I just need to get to sleep tonight and book a doctor, tomorrow, maybe.
No problem.
gain medication isnt for everyone, but he can at the very least give you some ideas on what to do.

In the meantime though this also helps me

= Relaxation and ritzy feeling.

If you listen to it with nothing else on and just lay in bed it is very relaxing.

You should try listening to ambient restaurant noises.

Silverware clanking and the soft murmur of voices always put me to sleep when I was a kid.

Try push-ups until you can't anymore then do it.
This is what we call a bad idea. For a few people this might work, but as a general rule doing exercise, especially intensive exercise, actually energises the body. This is why I always do my exercise in the mornings. I've read many times that people should not do their exercise late in the day for this very reason. Doing push ups in the morning can help you sleep later at night... but doing push ups at night is more likely to prevent you from being able to fall asleep than it is to help you.

Try Melatonin. It's not a narcotic, it's a compound your body produces while sleeping. Taking a supplement (you can get at any vitamin or health food store) just before you plan on going to be should help.

Also try self hypnosis. It's incredibly easy. Just imagine all the parts of your body relaxing from your toes to your head; walk your mind through it and above all, relax your mind when you get to your head.

Scientific evidence trumps your anecdotal evidence.

A shot of whiskey, is worth a shot. Personally I'd say sleeping pills, but at almost 1am, it's probably a little late.

Well, anecdotal evidence proves that it doesn't work for me, at least.

I guess I'm just an odd oddity.

Try sex. I'm serious, it's way more tiring. I've fallen asleep by accident a few times after it. Can be problematic when I usually don't set my alarm before going to bed...

It works wonders for me when coupled with masturbation afterward. You are quite literally simulating sex. It is physical excursion and an orgasm. That is what sex is and people use that to sleep all the time.

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting this place is full of teenagers... Oh well, maybe masturbate and do a dance at the same time or something? :D

You sound like you're either English or very close to. I get the same problem you do. I can go to bed at 7pm, but no sleep till 3am. And if I'm awake past 3am, I'll lose the desire to sleep. I sit up and play World of Warcraft. When I go to bed, I put my iPod on, and listen to that for a while. Then when I feel sleepy, I take it out and turn it off. Sleep usually arrives after an hour.

Its one of those things where you have to listen to it in order to understand how it makes you feel. Words can not describe.

Glad you like it though!

Smoking weed is the easiest practical way to sleep. You have a serious problem if you can't fall asleep while high.

Melatonin isn't the best for falling asleep, but it has the added bonuses of not being addictive and won't make you sleep too much. A lot of sleeping aids will put you out for 10+ easy; Melatonin won't.

Should be perfect for someone who just needs it once in a while.
