Cones, huh? I don't know what to tell you. My driving tests revolved around driving in busy city streets, but never around cones.

Seeing as how few people are acting serious here, I think I'll give you what they docked me on. You can pull out into the intersection a bit when you are making a left turn at a light, only while green, and METT-TC depending. At stop signs and lights don't stop in the crosswalk. The cones are to represent other cars so hitting them counts as an accident and you will FAIL. Slowly brake and don't slam on them. Always watch for pedestrians, I mean actually look around before leaving the curb, and make sure he/she see you doing it, so he believes you actually give a damn about other peoples safety. Smooth your turns. I personally keep my hands at a 9:30 and 2:30 then add/subtract a hour and a half. By starting your hands there it forces you to make a slower less jerky turn. Composure is key. Acting relaxed and in control makes you seem like you practiced.
Remember to SMOG every turn.

hang on, where do you live? where I come from (and I have my license) the stop lines are usually only about 1 meter from the crosswalk or 2 from the edge of the curb!

OT: I don't remember having to do anything with cones, but maybe the trick is that you are going too fast and need to slow down so that your vehicle turns tighter.

or perhaps you mean that you drive between two cones, stop, reverse between them, and then stop at a certain point? well then I say the same thing, you will have a higher chance of success if you take it as slow as you can.

The best advice I can offer is:

Move somewhere that doesn't require you to drive through a bunch of cones.
Fully licensed driver right here. Never had to drive through no cones.

If backing up is a problem, just practice. Find somewhere with lots of room and nothing you can damage (an abandoned parking lot, for instance) and practice. If you can, set up some cones (or similar devices) for yourself and just practice. It's amazing how well that works.

Why do you need to test them? If you have problems just restore the old ones.

I believe this is a drivers test like a car, not computer drivers. >.> Good effort though!

Also, when the instructor asks if you want to run over all humans, say no, I always get that one wrong.

Yeah that was a pain in my butt too. I did it for weeks and weeks, using different people to teach me different perspectives and it helped...some what. What it came down to for me was just figuring it out for myself, a sort of 'click' i got it moment. Now i just had to put it into the right motions. The only advice I can give you is to just keep doing it and doing it and doing it until you think you cant take it anymore then do it some more. If your way of approaching it now isnt helping, try a new one. Look at the solution not the problem. Good luck you will look back at this and laugh one day ;)

^_^

and for crying out loud people the 'cones' is a simulation of what its like to just park a car but with out the risk of hitting cars. Like backing into/out of a parking spot!

Just practice your handling and staying away from edges. Personally I can say my biggest weakness is parking. I tend to cut into the slot besides the one I'm parking in, so I know it can be hard to back up and avoid traffic cones.

Then again, I got my learners permit practically right when I was old enough and haven't had it for even a month, so I'll just say practice and backing up's a *****.

I would suggest getting some cones (or cone substitutes) and set up the test yourself so you can practice it. Also, just practice all sorts of weird backing up stuff. I remember being in driver's ed and having to back up and down all sorts of very narrow winding mountain roads.

OK, whatever you do, don't do what this stupid girl did, she stayed at a red light, then the light went green, then red again, she failed, why? she was doing her hair in the mirror, with the instructer right next to her.
