And, I dunno, I used to get depressed majorly once a year only. Then I got my first girlfriend, we got really close, fell in love, and there was drama and complications and just a bunch of shit gone wrong, and soon the depression began once a week or two, and nowadays it happens randomly throughout the day, and lasts for several days or weeks at a time... :/
Don't worry man like you said you got help incoming = ). Beginning and ending of classes for me, routine is comforting but when you begin new classes or end them it upsets my routine so I get stressed ugh.

Yeah, I'm really stressed about my classes. I have to keep up a 2.5 GPA or I can't get into this college I would love to go to, but then I don't really want to leave behind my ex, since we're close friends, and to make it worse, the nagging feeling that we might get back together. Or if I get this job at a nearby Gamestop, I don't want to move away and spend another three years searching for an awesome job, y'know?

My friend has had panic attacks and depression most of his life, he is in the military and does take medication to control it. So, I think you need to check up on your facts. What other careers would it wreck, seeing as how it is illegal to not hire someone for a mental illness. And most people do therapy while on the drugs, but doing therapy only is not as effective. Therapy for me personally does not work after going through several different doctors over several years. Trying to find the root of problem, flooding, hypnosis, calming techniques, did not work. So the way you feel to "fix depression" does not work 100% what would you say for those people?
I can pretty much guarantee he did not join the (At least U.S.) military while taking any kind of psychiatric medication. Regulations call for being off anti-depressants for at least 6 months...ADD medication a year prior to even filling out the application.

I know one side effect is thoughts of suicide, whihc i always thought was possibly the most hilarious things i ever heard of.

I also know they can cause even more serious depression.

My advice would simply be dont get mixed up with them, cause they can be addicting. But, i dont know. Just go easy and do exactly what your doctor says. However, i always found friends who listen and care more useful then pills.

If you wean it shouldn't be too hard, if you go cold turkey you will go through severe withdrawals and that is something no one should have to suffer through *shudders*.
Yeah that's one thing they don't tell you when they hock the medication on you. The withdrawal symptoms (Depending on the dose) can rival those of heroin. SWIM suffered "brain zaps", where periodically they would get these jolts in their head. They were on 60mg of Celexa.
If it were me...I would try therapy first...as putting those kinds of chemicals in your brain is kind of a last-ditch effort.

They are not addicting in the least.

If you say so. I just know i've seen people go to drug rehab for them because they kept taking them in an effort to feel high.

Soooo... this Wednesday I have an appointment to get some "happy pills" after three years of pretty bad depression.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good anti-depressant with not many horrible side-effects. Though, I wouldn't mind some with weight loss side effects, hahahah.
Do what i do. Live with the Depression lol. Sorry. I am religious about not taking any drugs or chemicals that might alter my state of mind or help me get better. Not even antibiotics. A good Doctor would tell you that the pills are just a temporary fix and the problem needs to be fixed on why your depressed.
I'm usually the same. But as the guy a few posts above me said, it's a last-ditch effort. I don't drink or do any kind of drugs. Refuse to go near them. But I just am not strong enough to keep dealing with it. Y'know?

Just be careful buddy for real. My girlfriend has really bad depression and tried to kill herself three times before I met her. The pills had something to do with it. Anti-Depression pills are known to increase thoughts of suicide in teenagers so if you start to feel that way at all, call your doctor. Don't get me wrong, medication is a great thing, you just need to find the one that works for you. Soon my girlfriend should be getting some new meds (after being off them for over a year) so I'm hopeful we can get passed this. 2 years on Friday WOO

Woah, antibiotics don't alter you state of mind (unless you're drinking alcohol but you don't) and they're pretty important for stuff other than a simple viral cold (which I very much believe they're used too often for), a positive attitude and healthy diet still won't cure tuberculosis.

Well, then, I bow to you and your sturdy shoulders :p. I am just unable to hold that crap up anymore. I'd rather not keep harming myself >_< My ex was the only person who ever actually helped me :/

Most of them actually are addictive, but you're basically safe as long as you listen to the dosing instructions that your doctor/pharmacist give you.

OT: You're most likely going to be given Prozac/Fluoxetine, or possibly Lorazepam. They're the two I've seen most often.
Pretty much all antidepressants seem to have the same side effects, like anxiety and insomnia, so you're reasonably safe regardless of what you get. Just be sure that you talk to somebody immediately if your depression happens to get worse.

Sadly enough, getting Prozac might make me happy and laugh, since one of my favorite bands is Prozzak. But I already have anxiety and insomnia. I was tired hours ago, yet when I close my eyes they pop right open.

Do you know of any with a weight loss side effect? Then I could kill two birds with one stone. xD

Snip multiple posts
He was off for a period but stress brought the need for medication back and has started taking his meds again while serving. He is in the coast guard. I was probably warned when I started but I was stupid and since I was completely balanced with the meds I forgot to take them. Severe anxiety, couldn't sleep, throwing up, shaking, just fucking terrible.

But I have weaned a few times after that and had 0 problems. During high school there was 3 of us that I knew had panic/anxiety attacks. This girl didn't take medication, she had an EMT come during a big one. IV drip, checked breathing levels, gurney and sent to a hospital. She was doing therapy too. So I would definately recommend medication to people.

Don't know what to tell you about your worries about your ex as the best advice I've ever given about relationships was to get my friends bf to work out with her as a couple because she thought he was getting fat lol. Gamestops are everywhere and Experience > No Experience = P.
