Simple really, I've been console-less since last November and I am now having Vietnam style flashbacks of Oblivion that need satisfying. I was hoping for a balanced and considered answer from you guys as to which console is most reliable and offers the best value for money out of the 360 and PS3. I've got a load of games for the 360 but I got through two of them in two years so reliability is a big issue.

And please don't let this descend into the 'my console is better than yours' debate like every other thread on this topic.
Wait so you had a 360 but it broke? Did you play all these 360 games and most of the exclusives for the console? If you haven't played the games you've already bought I'd go for the 360.. but then again I guess you could sell them. If you haven't had a ps3 before and want to try out the exclusives go for it.

If I may, have you ever considered going for a PC?
Quick question, my pc's quite old and wont play games that were released in the last few years all that well... Anyway, how much would it cost to get a pc that plays recently released games, and Crysis. Not a big fps'er but really want to see how good it looks.
Well, do you want to run these games at high quality?

Anywhere from 300 - 500 from scratch from a place like Newegg.com, that is just for the tower though, not including a monitor. Prices will vary depending on the graphics card, but you can get a good NVidia 9800 card for about 100$ It's a good card and can handle pretty much everything given out today.

I built my brother's computer for about 350$ excluding graphics card, got a great deal on a tower 500 watt power supply combo, 2.2 ghz dual core processor and 2 gig of ram and that was about 2 years ago. You might be able to get 4 gig of ram within the same price range. You don't need top of the line products to make a good computer, you just need reliable, mid-range components and it can last a good while.

Yes I guess so. Well if I was going to play Crysis, it would be for the graphics, other games I wouldn't mind as much.

Everyone keeps mentioning 'from scratch', I really wouldn't know where to start with that... Is it easy to do for someone who knows nothing about building a pc? Also, I live in the UK, where I think prices are generally higher (might be wrong for computer parts dunno), is it a good idea to order from a foreign country for parts? Since it could be damaged during delivery. If not, how much would it cost to build with parts from the UK?

Well to be honest I don't know much about building a PC from scratch, but I myself am planning to buy a new graphics card after trying to play Dawn of War 2 on high quality and it failed. I can recommend PC's that would be good for gaming, but for building PCs I would ask someone else.

Am I the only one who remembers the PS3 updates that have a nasty tendency of breaking more than they fix?

Honestly each system has pros and cons but I had a 360 for a while and it broke far too often so I bought a ps3. Im very happy with it and alot of elements of it are better than the 360 such as free online, not as many 12 year olds with mics screaming at you, bluray, trophies (IMO better than achievements) and it comes with wifi built in. The 360 does have its ups too like uhhh well it has its ups.

Either way both do their job but its more down to the specific features you want that will help you choose

I own all three of the current generation consoles and, despite going through a few units, the 360 has provided me with a far greater entertainment value than either of the other two consoles has. I'm big on cooperative gaming online with friends, however, so that skews my perception accordingly.

Just out of curiosity, because I think I've seen you say this before, what exactly makes trophies better than achievements? They're the exact same thing. The only difference is one is a numerical record of e-penis length the other is the good old physical representation of, "obviously mine's bigger, I've got more stuff than you do." They serve the exact same purpose and they're awarded for the exact same things.
Sure its e-penis length really but trophies measure it much more fairly than achievements.

Trophys have varying levels which are all counted bronze, silver, gold and the coveted platinum whereas achievements dont make a distinction they just add to an overall tally.

You will can get the same amount of GS from completing all achievements entirely by getting many smaller achievements across a few games but you cannot get a platinum in this manner. you need to complete every other trophy first no short way around it. except for borderlands i think

Hmm..i will say the 360 it has more of a variety in it's selection games and also the online play is great, sure it's full of pre-teen assholes who think they're gangster when they live in the suburbs, but that's easily ignored by using the mute function.

I suppose I see what you mean. I have neither the time or the inclination to 100% a game but I could still have a higher score than someone who has on 360. Even still, it's a weird thing to find important. To each their own I guess, not like you're clubbing baby seals, you're definitely a bit off though. :)
While i am definetly "a bit off" as you put it i dont find achievements/trophies important. I have only ever got a platinum in Heavy Rain and that was by accident. There are however alot of people that do and thats why I stated that as a feature.
