Don't wear a fedora.

Seriously, don't do it.

Somebody beat me to it.

There's a saying I have that goes with Fedoras:
If you're not in a suit, the Fedora is moot.

Pretty self explanatory, and it conveys the meaning nicely: wear that shit with nice clothes, or don't wear it at all.
Actually I wear my Brown Fedora with my Brown leather jacket. Got an Indiana Jones thing going.

Nerds wearing fedoras is one of my massive pet peeves, for some reason. It always looks out of placed with the outfit it's worn with, and seems to only enhance the wearer's stupid irritating smugness. Maybe I've only seen irritating smug people do this, but my thoughts are that if you're not Dick Tracy or in a jazz band, don't wear a fedora.

Wear a fedora but only with appropriate clothing i.e. a vintage suit. Berets go well with military uniforms, and ushankas with long trench coats (shinels). Alternatively, you can wear a fez because fezzes are cool.

I like the ivy cap
I wear them all the time (not all at once!)

Advice? go to a hat shop (not just your local clothes shop) and try some hats on, take someone with you (who's opinion you trust) and let the hat wearing begin!

That's why I wear my fedora with the brim turned up (most people then mistake it for a very fancy porkpie hat), which is the rudeboy/skinhead style of wearing one... and usually pushed back so I don't look like such a hardfaced bastard. I wouldn't wear my fedora brim down (classic style) with my regular clothes anymore than I'd wear a beanie with my suit.
