The MW games (and most likely BC games) has one of the worst gaming cultures I have seen in games since I started playing, NO doubt. I think that is rather interesting, does these fast paced FPSs breed assholes and annoyance?

Yes, yes, MW2 is evil and wicked and so on, so forth.

I honestly think I could put a thread up listing the amount of MW2 hate threads, and it would be stickied by mods just for convenience.
I think you should...

Kids will be kids. They want to cause trouble, they want attention.
A few weeks ago, I got a message after a game calling me a fucking noob for using an M16. The person in question sounded under the age of 15.
After a few more days, I was playing with silenced scar, and after the game, I got a message from a completely different kid, calling me a fucking noob for using a scar. Go figure.
Except for quick-scoping/no-scoping (which are terms that should never have been made in the first place), which weapon/tactic can you use and NOT be called a noob for using it? TELL ME!
This is a generation of kids who never learned what "noob" actually meant.

Probably when they were younger gamers it was used against them as an insult for their incompetence as they are new to the game. Only it seems to have evolved as noobs desperate for kills resort to "noob tactics" just to stay alive in game... in the process "noob" evolved into being a word for what are perceived as "too effective" tactics.

Basically: exploiting imbalances in the gameplay

Things that one-hit-kill, that you have no defence from or cannot respond to are "noob".

But really the ultimate fault lies with the developers who designed these maps and weapons and their capabilities... and MW2 has to be the most unbalanced popular multiplayer game that is out at the moment.

Of course it gets taken too far, like saying the ACR or SCAR are "noob" when they are virtually identical to every other rifle in the game. Really what is "noob" is likely your position on the map that the developers likely left far too defensible, it really is is a camping park on some maps where one guy with a rifle can dominate for so long. These kids just lack the cognitive reasoning to do anything but latch onto the weapon used rather than map position exploiting.

I get messages asking me to invite people to level hack games. Then one at a time my friends and I invite them and see how many times they join and leave.

But the number of ways to be cheap in the game are anoying. It usualy comes down to what map you're on however.

Play it on PC!

I'm not trying to be all elitist, I swear, It's just on PC I don't usually receive messages asking me to do all that stuff.

Must be annoying as hell :|
Isn't it on Steam you can only receive messages from friends? Apart from in-game chat. I mean through the steam interface. I just realise to spite 100 combined hours on Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 and 260+ hours on TF2 plus several hundred in other games... I don't think I have ever been sent a private message. Loads of friends requests but that's it.

So I recently got back into Modern Warfare 2 as a friend of mine got Xbox Live. After about 3 days of playing, I must have received 18 messages from random people asking me to join quick-scoping, no-scoping, boosting, clan initiations and knifing games... One little shit actually asked me to donate $10-$15 so they could buy a new tv.

What the fuck is it with this game and little children asking me to boost? I just want to have a good time, playing the game with my friends. I usually mute everyone but that doesn't stop them sending me pointless messages.

Is anyone else bothered by this? Or is it just me taking it to heart?
My friend got threatening messages when playing (very well) on the PS3.

Hah. I know that feeling. This one day when I was playing Multiplayer on Bad Company, one guy vented into the microphone "FUCKING LAAAG!".

I never had a problem with lag. : /

Still, you are playing a game that is really wanted by those little kiddies who keeps sending friends requests here and there just after one match of gameplay, and messages like "how did u get recon i don't know how to get it.". How the hell am I suppose to know that? I don't even have it. (Halo 3)

Wish I had your problem, the only messages I get sent are insults like "fuck off".

I'm not even very good. For example, on killzone 2 I got my second kill of a match 15min in and got send that message.

Where someone looks down the scope for a split second before killing you. It's a dick tactic used by arseholes who think a sniper rifle is a shotgun.

I get those a lot to, but I get more of "OMG YOUR SO FUCKING RETARDED" Because I decided to use a certain gun that's good. And I personally reply to these messaged with a hearty , "Kid, fuck off."

When I get the messages you're talking about, I say, "Kid, I don't wanna join your shitty ass clan/boosting game cause im better than that/ Fuck your fucking quick scope, it fucking ruined what a sniper is supposed to do/How am I gonna hit anybody is I no scope with a fucking sniper? Oh wait, I forgot im a n00b cause I don't waste all my time learning how to do it accurately, and instead I have some fucking fun. Im such and idiot."

Something else I get from little kids is, "Join my clan or ill fucking hack you you stupid *****" Or I even once got a ,"Change your name to my clans name or ill fucking track you down and strangle you to death with a belt" Which I just reply to with a message of just me laughing my ass off.

Honestly, this happens all the fucking time on every fucking game that has fucking multiplayer. And im sick and tired of seeing this and have to delete all my messages. This is why im going to be very relieved when im able to buy games for my computers, it will be much better when this doesn't fucking happen!

I haven't played MW2, nor is my Xbox set up with Gold, but I'm curious as to what the hell boosting is?

MW2 has too many problems to list, but here's one:

The Secondary weapons are so overpowered that people prefer to use them over Primary Weapons. THIS IS NOT GOOD GAME DESIGN.

Honestly, I've lost count of the times I've been RPG'd, sprayed down by an AA-12, or Insta-Killed at mid-range by a SPAS-12. Most of the Machine Pistols are SMGs in disguise (PP2000 especially). Shotguns are insanely overpowered (Akimbo Ranger? Wouldn't that break your wrists?). Handguns are OK but the .44 Magnum is unlocked early on and is easily the best. Launchers are a good idea in theory (Anti-Aircraft use) but too many people spam the RPG with Danger Close.

I could go on but it's all been said before. MW2 is a load of bullshit.

Yes, I do have a PS3. :p
Still happens on the PS3 though. I gave up playing it online after two friends sent me atleast 10 messages each telling me I was a noob. "Stop using SCAR noob", "Noobtube *****", "Dont use LMG's ******", "Raffica noob" etc etc.

Ive kept them just to laugh at every so often.

OT: The one thing you have over small children who dont know what respect is that your bigger and stronger than them. They no longer have that fear over online.

'Boosting' is the gayest way of getting mass head shots and rank, seeing as you pay a third grader, who joins an online game with you. then you shoot him in the head. and again. on and on. ninety nine percent of the time, the take you money and run like mexicans

I actually like quick scoping for one thing it allows you to do - shoot someone at point blank range with a sniper rifle without having to aim down the scope fully. Seriously, how many fucking shooters get this wrong? I'm right behind the guy with the barrel of my gun right up in his back, but if I don't aim down the scope I frigging miss him. He's not fucking moving, the gun is touching him, how do developers keep fucking this up!?

On topic: Meh, just ignore the little bastards. Stick a ranking system in a shooter and this sort of shit pops up. Not to the same extent as Modern Warfare 2, mind, but that's because every man and his dog owns a copy of it.

Aha. Thanks mate. I was wondering if it was like boosting in CS:S but it seems to be more like achievement farming in TF2.
A follow up question though: is it connected to this Prestige I keep hearing about?

Dude, I'm really sorry to hear that assholes have been ruining the game for you. I always hear about the kinds of jerks playing Modern Warfare 2, but thankfully I haven't really run into anyone like that. I mean, I still get the occasional racist jerk or stupid whiny kid who screams into his mic, but for me it's mostly been a decent experience. That's part of the problem with online games - the game can be polished (not saying MW2 is) and have really great gameplay but your experience is going to hinge on the people you play with.

Maybe this isn't a great suggestion but perhaps you should switch games if you want to play online. I'm a big fan of MAG (if you have a PS3) and Battlefield: Bad Company 2, mainly because their respective communities tend to be a little more mature and polite for the most part.
