I know what your thinking, after M. Night Shyamalan destroyed The Last Airbender he should not be allowed to make movies or be involved in making movies because the attachment of his name to any film will make it a sure flop, Devil anyone.

Apparently some film executives don't believe that and they go ahead for him to make After Earth (by this time its already finished filming) starring Will Smith and his son Jaden in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi film and it's written by the Book Of Eli's Gary Whitta.

In After Earth, one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity?s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind?s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (played by Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (played by Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai?s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.

The movie will be come out next June.

Is this the movie that redeems MNS? and might become a hit because the Smiths are attached to it or it will end up as another flop because the name M. Night Shyamalan is involved.

Your thoughts on this.

I can guess the ending already...

They discover that earth is in fact another planet, and it's not earth after all.

Wasn't there a fundraiser website that tried to earn enough money to send M. Night Shamalama back to film school?

I guess it failed :(

That being said, having a movie with Will Smith in it were he isn't the main character? Yea that doesn't work. All I can tell you is that he better play this movie by the books if he wants a chance to be relevant again.

I really don't know what to think about this film, I don't have enough information on it to really form a solid opinion.

The whole thing could be a wonderful hit, or a complete flop. Will Smith has a pretty good track record and M.Night has made good movies in the past, just not recently. I don't know what to think about Jaden Smith, although I'm a little turned off that he's working with his father. I can't help but think daddy got him the job.

Edit: I take back the comment about M.Night not making a good movie recently, more like... In a long long time.

The synopsis actually sound quite interesting. Will Smith is always good value and I think Jaden is also one of the best talents for his age out there.

That said, this is Syamalan we're talking about here.

So the way I see it we have two possibilities. First, it could be, against the odds, a good movie. Or it could be such a complete train wreck that it's worth seeing just for the laughs. Either way, I'm going to keep my eye on this.

I am not going to give him the benefit of a doubt.
I try that during when The Last Airbender was in production and look where that lead me, the crappy "Earthbender" sceen, Aang name being pronouce wrong and etc and etc. For someone who claim to had watched the show how the hell can he make so many mistake (making his own take of the series does not count).

My vote is they were on Earth the whole time.

I will never forgive him for that movie. Never I say!

He desperately needs to go back to those twist ending movies he used to make. His quality has steadily dropped over the years, but he was by far at his best when he relied on twist endings to carry the movies. The man needs to concentrate on making more movies like Devil, not going off into sci-fi.

This looks mediocre, I doubt it will be any good unless there is something the premise isn't telling us.

Isn't that what somehow contribute to the downhill of quality on his films?
The mandatory twist ending in almost all his movies.

Didn't literally everyone in the world instantly figure out who the devil was as soon as they saw all the characters?

Only thing I feel like saying about this:

Anyone else notice the new planets name is redundant?
Nova: new
Prime: first

Why not go with something simple, like Earth II, New Earth, EDN II, etc.

Maybe Nova is the name of the star system, and Prime indicates that it's the first planet from it's star? I don't know, I get tired.

Or Bob, can't go wrong with Bob.

This information was brought to you by a much better movie also sporting the name After Earth.

I forgot to mention this in my original post, noticed what their names are.
Cypher Raige and Kitai Raige, is this movie taking cue from Hunger Games and other old scifi movies in terms of cheesy names like Katniss Everdeen or as MovieBob prefer to call her Catpiss Jellybean.

For me it all depends on the reason mankind had to leave earth. If it's another one of those preachy 'we have to be careful with earth!' reasons I'm already out.
