After months of protests and rioting, Chileans opt to destroy their constitution and make a new one.

It'll get mismanaged into oblivion like Argentina and Brazil to a lesser extent. Be a puppet or let your stupid elite screw your own country. Part and Parcel of south america.
Are you implying Brazil’s center left are a bunch of political elites disconnected from rural communities? They’re pretty heavily connected to the indigenous communities. I get the feeling you don’t really understand these issues.

I'm implying they mismanaged the country into oblivion (to a lesser extent than Argentina). They were still responsible for the largest corruption scandal in the country on a massive, insane, scale.
Nice flex on your knowledge of local politics, doesn't change that the indigenous people are next to nothing in Brazil and completely irrelevant (except for people that read about them online). As they are in Argentina and Chile.

Car wash was a ploy by the center right to take down Lula. Nobody in Brazilian politics is guilty of less than him.

I was in Brazil when Lula was on trial. Protestors nearly broke my head off with a piece of concrete. I was sitting at a bus which slowed down because the road was jammed and blocked with protestors. Then a piece of concrete flies in to the seats in front of me and smashes the windows.
The people who think that Carwash was a ploy, and that Lula is innocent, are the same people who would do that. Fanatics that can't comprehend their savior was a liar and a thief.
What a fucking joke

Lava Jato was a general and surprisingly non-partisan anti-corruption investigation that took down a whole chunk of the Brazilian political scene from left, centre and right, because corruption is endemic in Brazil. And it removed some remarkably toxic scum.

Yes, it does appear that Lula was dubiously taken down as well, by a judge who wanted to win brownie points. However, in its defence, prosecutors have gone for Bolsonaro's associates too, including his sons. Bolsonaro has therefore declared that Brazil is corruption-free and is winding it down; there's little appetite in the rest of government to oppose it being ended because no doubt plenty of them are still at risk as well.

I am no Proudhonist. I count myself on the side of the ceiling tile throwers. Always have, always will.

Fair, and generally accurate. My statement was intentionally hyperbolic as I’m tired of car wash being brought up to dismiss Lula and his party given how endemic corruption was throughout Brazil. We live in a world where politicians are regularly bought and sold as part of normal business and freak out the moment it’s corruption among some nominally left movement. Accusations and trials over corruption don’t end corruption, they just make it more “civilized.”

I'm inclined to think that Lava Jato was the real reason behind Rousseff's impeachment. She refused to limit it, and all those politicians at risk decided to get rid of her and install the VP in the hope he would. Unfortunately for them, he was both too incompetent and compromised.

Oddly enough, that's not an argument that Lula is guilty.
