after the extra credits scandal, nothing is happening to Yahtzee right?

I'm pretty sure Yahtzee is the Escapist's largest source of hits. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure.

In short, the answer is probably no. But then again, money is pretty short. So who knows

I'd assume that if the escapist are paying anyone, it'll be their number one attraction. Nonetheless, who knows what might happen?

If the escapist cannot pay Yahtzee, then they are almost definitely bankrupt.

I thought adultery, bestiality, incest, pedophilia, or drugs had to be involved for something to be considered a scandal.

Try this thread.

OT: Yahtzee is the reason most people come to the Escapist, and everyone knows it. I'm quite certain he has enough leverage to hold his own.

The Extra Credits crew left the Escapist a couple of weeks ago after rather a large spate. The long and short of it was that the EC guys were owed something like twenty grand, which the Escapist couldn't afford to pay, and that their artist desperately needed the money for surgery. Anyway, that kind of snowballed, there was some bad blood over the use to which the extra Rockethub money (from a fundraiser to get money for Alice's surgery) should be put, and so EC left the Escapist.
That whole incident showed that The Escapist was in reasonably desperate financial straits, and several other contributors also came forward to say that they were owed money.

OT: No. Yahtzee is far and away the Escapist's biggest source of hits, and paying him would be their number one priority, no matter what else happens. Unless the site itself goes bankrupt (not sure whether this is a real possibility or not), there's no reason to believe that Yahtzee will be leaving us any time soon.

Yahtzee sucks, all he does is bash good games for laughs instead of giving reviews. Ya I know Escapist does reviews already, but Yahtzee just seems like a dull, unfunny, cynical asshole who needs to take some Ritalin.
Cynicism is in. Ritalin is out. It's 2011 baby!

Anyways, i get the feeling Yahtzee is being taken care of. You always take care of your breadwinner.

i think the root of the problem was that EC said that they didnt desperately need the money from the Escapist.
then allison injured her arm and they had the fundraiser and the Escapist thought they were entitled to the excess funds.

Yahtzee had nothing to do with it, except that he works for the Escapist. but he's still put videos up since then so i'd assume that he's staying.
also this:

the Escapist isnt going to let him leave without a fight.

fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion, therefore so is yahtzee. but do you really think those 'perfect 10' reviews are sincere? the good reviews of crap games are paid for. and yahtzee does make an effort to like games.

You evidently haven't heard of the MP's expenses scandal, or the NoW phone-hacking scandal. Lucky bugger...

OT: If the Escapist didn't even have enough money to pay Yahtzee, then this site would be finished.

TBH, I wouldn't be surprised if the money he commands, which they are probably always paying on time, is part of what put The Escapist in this mess to begin with. They don't want to lose the person who drives the majority of the site's traffic, so they pay him what he wants, even if, when combined with the cost of maintenance, it's too high to support most of their other content.

Though in the spirit of full disclosure, I used to like Yahtzee, but haven't for a long time, and I honestly wouldn't miss ZP much at all if it left.

Ok, I quoted you both here to explain Extra Credits, their time on the Escapist AND the small scandal *no one is at fault* that happened shortly after one of their crew got a arm injury.

Alright, Extra Credits will be called, from now on, EC. For convience.
*Early Days.
EC joined The Escapist after being on youtube, each of their videos were about how much gaming mattered, improving it and allowing it to become a full, fleshed out artistic medium. First video was a school project, which Daniel *the speaker* put onto youtube, after MUCH positivity, he started the video train, eventually gaining James Port. *the writer* Who worked as a developer for a long time, allowing insight on the business. After several episodes, they joined the Escapist, who was going to pay them for this work of theirs.
They got Allison *animation for the show* to join before they kicked off.

*The prospering.
After joining the escapist, they did not stay for more then, I believe, several months. Within this time they got money from the escapist and showed new episodes every week. This was very prosperous for them.

*The injury, and the falling out.
Allison soon got a arm injury, this resulted in James having to take a cut of his pay check, along with Daniel doing much of the same, to try and pay for the injury. This didn't exactly work, as soon, they were asking the Escapist Community, for help. Rocket Hub hosted the fundraiser, allowing people to donate. They raised above and beyond their original line of money a few days after it went up. After the fundraiser, the Escapist started asking for money that EC owed them, EC was very perplexed and didn't quite understand it. So it became more or less one side being confused and the other asking for money. This was showed by a series of tweets. I'm not too sure one what EXACTLY happened, but it ended with EC leaving and no one being at fault for it.

*The recovery and return home.
After all that, Extra Credits moved back to youtube. So far, they have had all of these guest artists on the show. They used Rocket Hub fundraiser money to start the EC Indie Development Fund or something. This will be used to give Indie Devs money on a trustatble basis. Soon to be on Penny Arcade TV.

That in a nutshell was the scandal. No one lost or was a winner. And no, Escapist ain't going down, at least not soon.

To be honest, if they are going down, I think its for lack of lower budget shows, having shows with celebrities is more expensive then with lesser known folks. So its less about how BIG someone is, as quality someone is.

Oh, I know about the whole Extra Credits thing, I just thought something had happened with Yahtzee and I hadn't heard about it. Thanks anyways.

Har har, personally attacking someone that you've never met in real life. Good ol Internet.

Oh yeah, like the other guy said before me, you think that the reviews that other people give are sincere? The perfect 9s and 10s to games like Modern Warfare or Halo?
