There's four years, four months between me and my boyfriend. We got together when I was 15, and he was 19. Then he turned 20 and I was still 15, which everyone kicked off about.
My mother said, "Get back together when you're 20 and he's 25, then it won't seem as bad."
Now I'm 16, and he's still 20 and nobody gives a shit
Well, there's the odd few who say, "isn't that a bit old for you?"
Then I tell them we've been together fourteen months and they shut up. He's 21 soon, and I'm not 17 till next year, so I'll just have to wait and see what people say about that.

But in my opinion, age is just a number.

I dunno, I dated a younger girl once. I was nineteen and she was sixteen, it didn't work out because every time we got into the bedroom I couldn't help but to think it was some form of child abuse.
(To be very crass and uncaring...)
Not in WA! I have a friend who turned down a proposition from a 17 year old because he thought the limit was 18 - and I will never, ever, ever let him live it down. What are friends for?
I thought if you were older than 18 you couldn't have sex with anyone under 18. Like isn't it technically an adult having sex with a minor?
This is interesting, because I don't know a single friend of mine who would turn that offer down, and I live in NSW, so there can't be that much difference.

But I dont smoke.
But you would smoke out of politeness and get addicted to the disgusting taste. We are talking about a universe where you meet up with him so this could happen in escapist land.

You would get addicted to cigarettes, and they'd be the ones known to be the most disgusting.
Thats how evil my brain is.

If you want my opinion, age doesn't matter in a relationship. if you find yourself saying "Oh, I would *love* to, but he's 2 years older than me" then you are probably not prepared to date him anyway, and you are just fishing for excuses. if you really like her and she really likes you, then go for it.

Thank you, I try.

You wouldn't believe how many people think that but that's not how it works. Here's the rundown:

"The law about under-age sex is the same for all. It doesn?t matter what sexes and genders the people are. If you are:

* under 13 ? no one is allowed to have sex with you (even if you say yes or ?consent?). See Sexual Assault and Rape in the Violence section);
* between the ages of 13 and 16 ? a person is not allowed to have sex with you. However, if you gave consent AND they are no more than 3 years older than you AND they believed you were 16 or older at the time, then they may have a defence to the crime;
* aged 16 or 17 ? a person is not allowed to have sex with you if you are under their care, supervision or authority (even if you consent)."

Source: http://www.equalityrules.info/guide/sexualoffence.htm

So the 16-18 range is only off-limits if you're a parent, carer, teacher, etc. Of course this is for WA only, I hear.

Its not about age/looks or whatever you say it is, its if you love each other thats the main thing, unless the age difference is over 50 or something lol.

If you are asking this question then you should just do it, don't give one what everyone thinks about it, if you love her/him, then go for it. Its always best to try rather then be gutted and not.

My point entirely.

I think it's fine, as long as it's not a teen in a relationship with a person that's a lot older.

An example:
I usually hate freak show tv but since there was nothing else on I was watching a talk show, one of the subjects was about a middle aged man who wanted to have a relationship with a 17 year old girl who was his friend's daughter he was living with. The girl had asked the man out and then they got the blessing of the parents to have a relationship.

The talk show host and audience's reaction was one of distaste and the only reason it wasn't of total disgust is because they said they were in love.

Imo he is taking advantage of the girl, even if she is treated as a young adult she is definitely not emotionally mature enough to have a serious relationship.

Oh also, at the end he then proposed to her and she accepted.
