Alright escapist work your magic.
I have a craving to play the old windows 98 game age of empires II age of kings that I used to love to play as a kid. The only problem is it isn't available on steam. I'm running windows 7 now and I'm pretty much helpless when it comes to computers.

Does anyone have an easy way to get a version of this game that will run on my laptop? Less complicated and more free the better. Whoever helps me out gets a thumbs up!!!!

You know I've kinda had that craving myself and I've got the box for both Ages 2 and Kings sitting just nearby. Didn't know there were any issues running the games on Windows 7 but hell, I'll give it a try right now.

Let you know how things work out.

Finished installing, have it minimized right now. Runs absolutely flawlessly!

You needn't have worried at all.

Isn't there a Windows XP Mode on Windows 7? maybe it can work there? I'm aware that Age of Empires II can work according to the compatibility list on Microsoft site

The problem isn't so much intalling it. I would prefer finding a download for it rather then trying to track it down on ebay or something like that. I can't find one that isn't a trial version.

Actually there's a couple visual flaws I've noticed so I retract my comment earlier about it running perfectly, but I've seen this often enough in older games to know it's an easily fixed flaw just caused by an older game running with higher colour quality than it was intended for.

I'd fix it now but damn, I forgot how amazing the music in this game was. Looks pretty good too for its age, visual glitches aside.

Age of Empires 2 has aged extremely well it seems.

With the visual glitches. I know that you can fix them by going Control-Alt-Delete and quitting explorer.exe then maximising the game. Don't worry about quitting explorer because you can just press Control-Alt-Delete go to run and type in explorer.exe and you'll get everything back without having to restart windows.

Ok, I have windows seven-

You can pick up a collecter's edition with one and two, and all their expansions for a very reasonable price at most stores with games. I found one at walmart for like $5.

Hit alt+tab then open my computer. Go back to your game. Should fix all graphical glitches. Why? I don't know. It just does.
