Name: Finn Dubosc

Age: 49

Gender: Male

Caste/Skills: Scholar, with an automaton used for a mix of deals. He has been known for being an expert on magical God sent creatures, what they do, what their weaknesses are etc. On top of that, as a more practical skill, he has always been a master crafter. Finn has been directly responsible for the development of over twenty automatons. His magnum opus on the deal is his latest one named the Swivley Mark 19. It has a flamethrower that tosses Roman Fire at the front, average sized repeating guns on its sides and it can use a significant amount of flash powder to make a blinding light to stun those who get too close. Though, after the invasion he gained quite a few automatons following him.

Appearance: Though he is not by far the oldest scholar around, after the purge he found himself quite a bit older than most of the survivors. He has black hair that he keeps neatly kept around his head, never extending too low. His eyes are a dark black though he can only see out of one of them due to the invasion. His automaton is a sphere that rolls around using a ball located at the bottom. When threatened, it extends outwards revealing flash powder, a flamethrower on what you would call its face and the two guns on the sides. Finn is normally caught in his scholar robes, which have fancy looking runes marked all over in beige with the robe itself being a dark blue. He is Five feet, nine inches tall. Pale as a ghost.

Biography: From a young age, Finn showed excellence in academia but not much else. It was fortunate then, that he was a member of the scholar caste and he found himself sent to the city library to be trained as such.. He had learned much about pretty close to everything from his elders there. From magical beasts to mechanical wonders, Finn had been trained in all of it. It was about the time he was twenty that he had finished his first automaton. A prototype of his now perfected version, it fell apart quickly but it gave Finn a basic understanding of robotics that would become his obsession. In a way, one could describe him as a technological genius. During the invasion, a lot of his automatons ended up destroyed protecting the library of the city. Once the demons were in however, he was only able to protect himself and the younger ones. The elder's quarters was ravaged and they were all slaughtered. Though, their automatons were still functioning. As the now eldest scholar from the library, he was summoned by Drackord to be the encyclopedia of the expedition. Along with robo support.

Personality: After what he called the purge, Finn had to take up a more adult model for the sake of the younger ones, considering he was now the elder. He won't talk down to anyone but he always attempts to be there for people and has good intentions with most of what he does.

Extras: He will never admit it, but after the purge, he has a small vendetta against God.

You have tons of freedom in how you make your automaton function and what you put on your character's person, but keep in mind that Scholars aren't trained in using weapons.

My one nitpick: castes are assigned from birth, so Finn's parents didn't really have a say in the matter of whether or not he became a Scholar.

@Ultrachicken.

At what age are Monks generally "elders", and what spirits are available? Just bears and wolves?

Well past age seventy, and immense spiritual affinity is required to become an elder, as well. I'm not letting anyone play an elder monk.

At the start, only bears and wolves are available. If your Monk is within the suggested age range (18-35), he/she will most likely not have a spirit within themselves, but there will be opportunities to interact with all of the spirits mentioned in the OP, and some of them might just join a Monk.

my updated character.

Name: Eldred Black

Gender: Male

Age: 21

Caste: Arcane warrior. Almost a bear in human form has never met an equal in physical strength. Is an master in unarmed combat. And is also extremely skilled with surviving in the wild and using melee weapons.

Appearance: Eldred is extremely tall (7'3) and he is extremely muscled 300 lbs. He looks more like a giant then a man. He has short black hair and dark brown eyes and white skin. He wears the Arcena Warrior mark with pride. He has an scar across his face a giant bear claw carved that when he was younger. And multiple smaller scars from training. The bear inside him has had a strange effect on his growth. He had always been tall but because of the bear he became so tall that he was in a class of his own. He wears an leather/steel armor made out of an bear and steel.
He uses the bears head to protect his head from the sun and rain. He also wears an gigantic 2 handed sword on his back. And an one handed axe and one handed sword and a steel shield with an spike on it. He can use the gloves of the bear suit as claws still containing the original claws of the bear. His jaw has an odd form and his teeth are modified to be able to bite with and rip open victims.

Biography: Eldred was born to 2 Arcane warrior. His parents were really strong so they wanted their son to grow up to be strong too. So instead of training him like any other warrior they trained him more like an Spartan then anything else. Being left alone in the woods for days he has learned allot about surviving in the wild. His skin became tougher and tougher because of the sun, water, cold, warmth and the unrelenting wind. He didn?t make much friends. And the ones he did make were only outside of his own camp. His training made him stand out and made it impossible to blend in and find friends.

When he was only 6 he met his first bear. This young bear looked really aggressive and was blind in one eye. Eldred was really scared and froze. The bear got angrier and angrier and warned him to leave. Not knowing at the time he was only protecting his own ground. Eldred didn't know what to do. The bear then attacked clawing his face giving him his scar. He barley managed to get away after that, swearing he would one day hunt one eye down.

He trained even more and began all kinds of armed and unarmed training. He learned all kinds of martial arts. Boxing, Wrestling ,Judo, Mauy tai, Kick Boxing but his preferred style Pankration( a dirty fighting style where everything goes biting, gouging out eyes). As well as training with sword axes and shields.

When he was 11 he was said to be the most promising of all the apprentices. His parents however took the news as an sign to put more pressure on him. Making him train even harder and aiming even higher. This was not something he wanted. But he didn?t want to let his parents down and began training even more.

When he became 16 he went back in to he woods before facing his spirit. He went back to where he first met the bear. He met him where he had met him 10 years ago too. He felt like he almost understood the bear the way he was just fighting for dominance and approval . Just like he had his entire life.
On that moment realizing that the bear was more like him then any one he knew. However they fought man to bear, warrior to warrior. Eldred just managed to win and the bear died of his injuries. Not wanting the bear to be forgotten he skinned the bear and took with to his home the pelt of the bear. He went back to the camp with the dead bear?s pelt. Demanding they made an armor out of him. When he finally sat down to meet a spirit, the same bear he had killed came back. One eye he calls him the bear is blind in one eye.

After merging Eldred had a second grow spurt going from tall to almost a giant like height.
The bear and he had fought before but it was clear who was stronger now so the bear and he slowly became friends.

During the invasion he heard the calls for help while out on patrol. He charged back into their camp only to find all kinds off strange creatures. Seeing one of them threatening the apprentices One eye roared inside of him awakening his fighting spirit. Wanting to protect the children he charged head first into the battle without his best weapons. saving the apprentices and killing allot of those beasts.

Personality: He is calm and friendly. But if you threaten his friends he becomes really angry. And what he marks as his own private things(like his weapons) is his alone if anyone touches it they have a big problem. If he becomes angry its hard for him to cool down again. He loves the wild and the open road and finds peace there. He doesn't like cities much too chaotic and to much people. He is protective of people who are a part of his group. Especially the ones he sees as weaker then him.

Extras: He is an only child. Even though the rough start between him and his spirit they have become good friends over the last 5 years.

As promised :)

Name: Narcissus Emmerich

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Caste/Skills: Narcissus is a casteless born and raised. He has endured the whip of his masters countless times but working for long hours at a time has given him remarkable stamina. His speed is very much unmatched and he is one of the best "moon runners" in all of the criminal underground. Narcussus is also extremely keen, but he still requires a bit of honing in. He can hold himself up in a fight but not for long and relies on quick hits rather than hard punches. That type of guerrilla fighting has been his strongest attribute but he can also cook, hunt, and do basic medicine. On his right boot, he has a concealed shank and Narcissus is quite deadly with it.

Appearance: Narcissus stands at 6'4 but thin and wiry. He barely has any fat on him and his muscles are more compact than bulgy. He has a tanned complexion with multiple scars running across his back from the lashings. Narcissus has a perpetual grin on his face like he knows a deep dark secret that only he knows. He has a short head of auburn hair and dull blue eyes. He wears nothing but rags and cheap clothing.

Biography: Narcissus is the eldest child to the refugee parents that raise him and his 3 brothers and sisters. Early on the father was involved with the wrong people and had accumulated a debt that had to be paid. He offered up his first born son to the criminals as a runner and they agreed but the son would forever be in their service.

10 years later and Narcissus has yet to forgive his father but he has attained many skills in the underground. He worked under the sun by day and ran "moon dust" by night. Narcissus would often get a small cut of moon dust for his efforts and he is no stranger to its affects. He also attained many connections in the underground, hearing the secrets of others and sometimes the nobles above in hushed whispers.

During the invasion, much of his home was ablaze and his parents dead because of the beasts that ravaged the caverns. He harnessed his anger into a calculated trap that some claim the spirits of the Spider took hold of him but they were not. First he called upon the beasts, drawing them to him so that they would chase him instead of the others. It worked and he led them to dead ends where they were ambushed by both soldiers and thugs. He did this several times throughout the battle, noticeably thinning the monster's ranks and nearly resulting in his death. But he used his knowledge of the caverns effectively and his sheer speed to turn the tide of the battle in the caverns saving the lives of his fellow casteless.

Personality: A sense of deviancy was put throughout his life and as a result Narcissus is quite child-like in his actions. Despite his name, Narcissus is also quite caring of his younger brothers and sisters. He gives all he can to them and he is a good big brother. When pushed into a corner, Narcissus will use whatever he can to get out of which he uses his brains and his speed. He also knows better than to run his mouth as doing so has resulted in a good whipping.

Suggestions and/or criticisms are welcome.

Very nice. There are some traits in there that will make for good conflict later on.
I would like you to address his relationship with Spirits, however, as casteless have a wide range of spiritual beliefs and affinity, so it can't really be left unsaid. How much does he know about Spirits, how grounded is he in reality, etc.

I've added some sloppy sketches of what the caste markings look like. Check out the "Castes" spoiler if you're interested.

Name: Isaac Corviser

Gender: Male

Age: 25

Caste/Skills: Steam Knight. Isaac prefers a pistol/long-sword combination. He sees a rifle as too cumbersome to use effectively. Isaac is a tinkerer and can take apart most anything from guns to medium machinery, fix the devices if there is a problem, and reassemble them without much trouble.

Appearance: Issac stands at 6'0" and has a shaved head. When his hair grows out it is chestnut in color. He has a slightly buff build, neither overweight and out-of-shape, nor bodybuilder, hulk-like. His eyes are bluish-grey and some people tend to look away when they stare straight into them for whatever reason. When not wearing his heavy armor, Isaac wears a simple brown-dyed wool shirt, and pants. He always preferred a conservative and simple look instead of flashier and more expensive clothes that others of his caste wear. On some occasions, he will be seen having a straw hat over his face while napping. One key feature is a scar down his left arm which he obtained during the invasion. He also always wears a small necklace with an image of a soaring gold eagle emblazoned on it.

Bio: Isaac grew up with his dad a Steam Knight as well and his mom who tended to the house. Isaac's grandfather on his dad's side also lived in their house on was a retired Steam Knight. With his dad working most of the day and coming home tired, he did not have much time to speak with Isaac, and Isaac did not blame him for it. Isaac turned towards his grandfather to teach him about right and wrong and the other lessons that you learn as a child.

As Isaac grew up, his grandfather instilled in him the desire to continue the family legacy of being a Steam Knight as well. He began training at a young age, which at that age meant swinging a wooden sword outside. At the age of 18, Isaac began formal training to become a Steam Knight, and graduated as the second-best of his class. He probably could have been the best, but he did not like the limelight. Upon graduation, his grandfather gave him a necklace with an eagle on it, and told him if he was ever in trouble, to remember that the rest of his family was with him in spirit and that he could accomplish anything. Isaac has never taken it off.

When the invasion hit, Isaac and his father both went to the fight. They fought bravely together back-to-back, but his father eventually fell due to the sheer number of beasts. When Isaac turned around to help him, a beast slashed at his arm. The claws connected, but the cut wasn't deep enough to warrant a lot of attention, however, it did leave a scar. In a bloodrage, Isaac slashed, and stabbed at every beast surrounding him and his fallen father. While in his state of fury, Isaac punched holes into the beasts lines and was able to slay what seemed to be some of the beasts' captains and commanders, and putting a temporary, albeit minor state of confusion. His own captains noticed his actions and put in good words for him.

Personality: Isaac has a conservative personality, preferring simplicity and staying out of the limelight. He will fight tooth-and-nail for anyone, which his grandfather taught him to do. Among strangers, Isaac is quiet, and tends to be in the corner of the room, watching everyone else, but in the presence of friends he will be more open and talkative.

Extras: N/A
OK, I fixed it, I think. I'm trying to keep him from having to save social elites.

Name: Edwyn Beaumont

Age: 29

Gender: Male

Caste/Skills: Scholar, avid reader and master builder. He tinkers constantly with his creations, always looking for ways to improve on them, as he never sees anything as truly finished. Most of his works have been towards civil engineering; creating tools to aid in the cities construction, designing waterways and efficient means to make it available, as well as many other improvements. His greatest creation of all, he says, is his automaton; a biped with the given title of Personalized Civil Altruist, though it responds mostly to Percival, or Percy for short.

Percy stands three feet from the ground and its structure resembles an orb with four limbs, at the ends of which are three extensions resembling fingers. Its arms also function as hydraulic cannons, designed to fire 8 gauge ball bearings from it's "palms" at speeds up to 500m/s. Percy's legs are also hydrolic cylinders, though rather than launching ball bearings, they launch Percy himself, using them to leap great distances and run at great speeds. Percy keeps various tools and attatchments for himself encased in his outer shell. Thanks to the improvements Edwyn has made, Percy has been given minor speech capabilities through the use of an internal phonograph that emits a tinny voice, vaguely resembling that of a man. Percy has a very limited vocabulary, however, and conveys what he can't say through clicks and whirs.

Appearance: Edwyn has coal-black, medium, untidy hair atop his head and a goatee that he makes sure doesn't get in the way of his markings. He stands at six-foot-two and has a narrow, stalky frame. He has a pale complexion from being indoors for, what some may say, "too long". He wears a hooded tunic and matching black trousers along with thick hide boots.

Biography: Edwyn was born into a prestigious family of Scholars and began his formal training since early childhood. He was taught to read and write very early in his life, earlier than most of the children around his family's estate. He took a great interest in all the teaching the books the grand libraries held and began spending as much time as he could absorbing every bit of information they had to offer. His choice in secluding himself to studies made him somewhat of a social outcast, even from some of the other young Scholars, but it didn't bother him any because the more he spent with his studies, the greater and faster his knowledge would grow. Throughout his childhood, he began tinkering with various schematics for mechanisms and began mapping a design for a build of his own. In his mid-teens, he constructed a mostly functioning automaton, a small tripedal machine that was able to walk around nimbly and follow directions, but not much else. It was from this build that he improved on the make Percy what he is today.

In his early twenties, Edwyn had already been given the position as the chief adviser to the head of city planning, using his skill to help better the lives of the people. He'd been building a reputation as a quiet, thoughtful person, always seeming to keep to himself unless it was absolutely necessary that he speak. Edwyn always seemed to keep himself locked away in his homestead, keeping to his studies and tinkering, save for when he needed supplies or had important errands to run. Outside his home, he was rarely seen without Percy near him, though he was occasionally sent off to pick up something of great importance or run urgent letters to colleagues. Few years later, when the city was attacked by horrendous creatures, Edwyn was deep in his studies until he received word about the invasion. Thinking quickly and making quick improvisations, he transformed his assistant, Percy, into a walking machine of malice. Edwyn led Percy through the streets as he carried extra tools and ammunition in a pack, aiding people by having Percy kill the attacking beasts. He later regretted that he had not done more, though he was constantly reminded that he did all he could, but he didn't see it as enough. While aiding in the rebuilding plans, he pushed forward possible points where the city needed protection most and just how such defenses could be achieved.

Personality: Quiet, contemplative, usually nose-deep in a book of his though that does not make him oblivious to his surroundings. Thinks before he speaks and keep a calm demeanor about him, never having been one to get temperamental.

Extras: For travel, he generally keeps a back pack with him, usually filled with tools, spare parts, heavy reading, and light provisions. For as long as he can remember, he's always felt a strong spiritual presence of an Eagle, and even claims to have seen it flying over his home, as if watching over it and influencing him through his life.

Any and all feedback is welcome. ^^

EDIT: Would it be too much to give Edwyn a spiritual connection of the Eagle? Maybe not so far as to have been inhabited by, but enough to feel a strong presence/guidance?

Taking a great interest in all the teaching the books the grand libraries held and began spending as much time as he could absorbing every bit of information they had to offer.

Edwyn always seemed to keep himself locked away in his homestead, keeping to his studies and tinkering, save fore when he needed supplies or had important errands to run.

Any and all feedback is welcome. ^^

EDIT: Would it be too much to give Edwyn a spiritual connection of the Eagle? Maybe not so far as to have been inhabited by, but enough to feel a strong presence/guidance?
He seems like a sufficiently upstanding guy for that to be plausible.

Name: Arala Hawtrey

Age: 27

Gender: Female

Caste/Skills: Monk. She prefers to use kicks and knees more than punches as she is rather flexible.

Appearance: 5'9" tall, 140 pounds, slim but muscular. She has green eyes and brown hair hat she keeps tied in a ponytail.

Biography: Arala is fascinated by what a well trained body is capable of, and has trained towards this ever since she was a small child. She's one of the more promising students at the Great Temple, and fully intends to be the best. She is of the opinion The Lord must be eliminated, but isn't sure if she'd be able to strike the final blow if it came to that.

During the battle, she came across a small group of warriors that was being hard pressed by the monsters trying to break through to the city. Seeing the soldiers being pushed back, she charged the enemy from the flank and quickly put several out of the fight with well placed kicks. Unfortunately, she soon found herself surrounded, and fell back on her training in evasion, only striking when there was no chance she could miss.

The soldiers soon mustered what was left of their strength for a counter-attack, and with their help Arala was able to push them back from the walls.
Personality: She's fairly brash, but not quite brash enough to blindly charge into a fight without thinking of possible consequences. Arala aspires to eventually lead the Temple, but has a long way to go to attain that lofty goal.

Extras: She has always felt a bit of a connection to the hunting wolf, seeing it's grace and speed as something to imitate and utilize in fighting as well as training.

If there's anything I messed up on or you would like changed, let me know. It's nearly one am here so I probably made mistakes somewhere...

Name: Lenora Grinnan

Age: 19

Gender: Female

Caste/Skills: Casteless Ex-Slave. Streetwise and world-weary. Most of the years of her life were spent begging for whatever scrap of food was available, living hand to mouth. As a consequences, she is highly resourceful. Due to the countless "modifications" her deceased master has given while Lenora was in his "care", her body itself is a weapon. Sharp claws on her artificial arm can tear a man's face off, or give tetnus to whomever she pleases. She has learned to fight dirty in the mist of unlawfulness of her life, with her mechanical lower jaw, Lenora has one helluva bite. However, these parts have always been made of scrap metal and low quality material as Lenora was a "prototype" in her ex-master's mind and was not worth spending money over high quality parts. Because of this, her artificial bits tend to fall apart. To remedy this, Lenora has learned to tinker and repair and has developed a bit of a talent for it. Many-Times-Maimed - a Tormented spirit has taken pity on her, if those Tormented can feel that.

Appearance: Of average height and malnourished. If she was taller, Lenora would be considered a bit of a beansprout. She has shaved hair to keep lice off and Lenora has hazel eyes. She is of mixed race, of Middle Eastern descent. However, the first thing people notice when they see her - apart from her lack of caste tattoo, is that her arm and jaw have been replaced with steam powered, artificial, mechanical parts. That is, if they ever see them at all. Lenora wears a dull brown worn cloak over her mechanical arm and a scarf is wrapped around her jaw to conceal her "unsightly" parts from the public. Apart from that, she wears a simple, but weathered robe made in the Eastern style.

Biography: Born to slave parents, along with her twin - Leon. Lenora was destined to be a slave. She was given to a young scion who gave her the name "Lenora" because he thought it was the prettiest of names, as she was to be "his pretty doll". Over time, his obsession with her grew to higher and higher levels. Until one day in her 14th year, he decided she wasn't "pretty" enough and broke her jaw in a raging fit. Realising what he had done, he swore to fix his broken doll. And he did, giving her a new jaw of twisted metal and flesh. The young noble soon developed his taste for this, and continued with his "adjustments". However, when he set to work on her left arm, he had severed a major artery and Lenora was on the brink of bleeding to death. A Tormented Spirit spoke to her then of making a pact in exchange for her life. Will-worn and about to die, she accepted. Within a week, her master noticed changes in his slave, but never acted on them. Within a week, she let the Spirit take control and rampaged, killing the young noble's family. Both of them knew of pain and torment and both of them were happy to inflict it on others. But, she nearly killed her twin and he now considered her a complete monster.

During the invasion, in a last ditch attempted to reconcile matters with Leon, she tried to protect him. Lenora succeeded, however Leon when missing straight after most of it in the chaos.

Personality: Mentally unstable with a Persecution Complex and that was before she let the Tormented Spirit into her head. Years of abuse have left her emotionally crippled. She retains an anger at the world for being born a slave - hell hath no fury like a women enslaved at birth and abused by her owners. Lenora hates the fact that both of her names were given to her by her parents' masters that her parents themselves at all. At most times, this manifests itself as a quiet, contained rage most people mistake for extreme focus. Lenora is obsessed with Leon, the only person who considered her a human being, and will do anything to find him. When she is thinking of him, Lenora's rage seems to disappear and acts normal... for a time. Apart from that, she is not a very social person, prefering to keep herself to herself. She was taught about the Spirits by her parents, before she was separated from them and fervently believes in them as that faith is all she has left of her parents to hold on, apart from Leon.

Extras: Often gets possessed by Many-Times-Maimed at times of extreme rage and loses control. In this state, she cannot tell friend from foe and is open to attack. Oftens hears its voice and buckles over due to the intensity of pain its voice projects and is open to attack then as well.

Is this okay? Apologies for the amount of air quotes, you can tell I spent my childhood in the '90s (^_^) . As for the whole "Tortmented hate man-made things." the Spirit is happy about the amount of control it has over her.
