Well i don't know if it would fit any better in any other board so ill post it here.

today when watching the 10th anniversary edition gta 3 trailer i was asked for my birthday to verify age. which would be all fine except that it already knew my age. its in my profile, it never asked me for it before even watching way more gruesome content in here. why cant it just check my profile for it?
and yes, i was logged in.

Someone else might be browsing on your account.

It's just to cover their asses, don't blame the people who age check blame the people who make it so they (in my opinion, pointlessly) need to.

Um just want to point out that it tells you why right under where you have to put your age in.

Why are you asking for my birthday?
For some events, promotions, or content we are asked to limit access to users of a certain age by the event sponsor or content owner.

I've put in my birthday before, why do I have to do it again?
The guidelines for handling age gates require that we save your information for your current session only. Unfortunately this means that you'll have to enter your birthday again to see this content after your close your web browser. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.

IIRC You have to keep verifying your age, because The Escapist isn't allowed to store any info gathered from age gates.

Yeah, I mean how hard is it for a kid to get into the age checked materials anyways?

I've always found age verification hilariously futile. You know all those thirteen year old kids will always put "January 1st 1985" or some odd year.

Still, better to say you "took the precaution," even if it's useless.

But if they do.... It's not the sites problem, as long as they ask.

It's like Ts and Cs... No one reads them, and it's only to cover the site from stupid people using the fail law system to sue.

I know it, hence my second sentence that you didn't quote, ha ha. :p

But honestly, if I ever meet a person that has truly read and agreed to the Terms and Conditions I will name my first child after them, regardless of sex.

The funny thing is, just hit submit before entering a day of birth and it skips it.

Tadah, problem solved (?)

Err the Age verification doesn't save the data? Either way it's the law so they are abide to carry it out without getting into trouble.

This question has came up many times before, and no, The Escapist can't change it.

The Age Gate is a legal matter that The Escapist has to comply with. The code in it has to be implemented "as is", which means they can't change anything.

Are Age Gates actually useful outside of companies covering their asses on from this over litigious world we live in? No. Are they a law a website such as The Escapist has to obey? Yes.

I quoted before I finished reading >.>

I read through the entire iTunes Ts and Cs...

Found these brilliant pieces...

You also agree that you will not use these products for any purposes prohibited by United States law, including, without limitation, the development, design, manufacture or production of nuclear, missiles, or chemical or biological weapons.
and this...
THE APPLE SOFTWARE IS NOT INTENDED FOR USE IN THE OPERATION OF NUCLEAR FACILITIES, AIRCRAFT NAVIGATION OR COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS, AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEMS, LIFE SUPPORT MACHINES OR OTHER EQUIPMENT IN WHICH THE FAILURE OF THE APPLE SOFTWARE COULD LEAD TO DEATH, PERSONAL INJURY, OR SEVERE PHYSICAL OR ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE.
So you will name your child Miles now? =P

Edit: Or Candi? Or both? XD

At least Miles is a good name. >_< And also, Ha ha ha that's crazy. They really do cover all their bases. So when Dr. Maniacal uses his iPad to turn on his Doomday Device it's not Apples fault!

I suppose it does... Damn. Name please. :'(

Looks like I've got three kid names lined up. Better let my lady know. v_v

I always try to read them, but I get into the third paragraph and just immediately lose interest.

It's to give all of the little 'uns their fair chance to watch the video, assuming that they told the truth on their profile information. This being the internet though, it strikes me as mildly unecessary. :p

Lol Well, as Miles said, my name is Candi. Don't attach that to a male child, please.
