This is extremely random, but I got bored and started Wikipedia-ing things, and just started following a massive chain of related articles. I'm not quite sure how, but I eventually ended up at the page for Agent Orange, the thing dropped over Vietnam. Admitabbly I do shock easily with things like that, but I almost shit myself when I saw the first picture of someone born with birth defects because of it... They look terrifying.

...okay...
Where's the discussion here?

Yes, Agent Orange is fun.
No, it probably won't be used again.

Yeah that Agent Orange is nasty stuff. Probably shouldn't have been used. Plus that was a stupid war to destroy a country over.

And that picture was indeed unpleasant.

I kind of feel bad, because my Grandfather was a military scientist who developed and tested it.

Daisy Cutters are fine to, they both do the same thing really. However, nothing quite matches that psychological terror that is Napalm. ('cept for Willie Pete that is)

I guess that the point is not discussion, but anti-americanism. Yes,napalm/agent orange/what have you is bad, immoral, etc, etc. But you know, communist countries didn't exactly followed Geneva convention either.

Willie Pete has a number of legitimate uses. It just so happens that it proves to be an effective anti-personel weapon. It's lethality is overated anyway, Frag, HEFrag, and Thermobaric weapons all work alot better against personel. (Though they don't have that same "Oh my god! Everythings on fire!" effect that Napalm and Willie Pete do.)

I got to go over the mechanism of this one awhile back. It's just sick the way it was dropped into the Vietnam. The way they use their water, this won't go away during any of our lifetimes. Grrrr.

Yeah, Agent Orange was a pretty scary thing.

But then again there were the comparatively unknown brother/sister chemicals. Agent Blue, Agent Green, Agent Purple, Agent Pink, Agent White, and I think one more. Most of them were never used due to extremely high levels of Dioxin contamination.

Its made to illuminate the enemy at night and for signaling... Yes it tends to light a lot more up but thats besides the point.
You forgot the number one use, concealment. Willie Pete creates a nice thick smoke cloud very quickly. Handy if you need to move across open terrain.

It was war. Civility was largely a secondary concern. Millions died. Many civilians. Under United States dropped firebombs [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Rolling_Thunder].

Yes indeed, the two primary purposes were for concealment and illumination. I wonder how they figured out how dangerous it was on human skin.
This whole thread is reminding me of the song "Napalm sticks to kids".
