Agent Trademark Renewed by Take-Two

After years with little news Take-Two has renewed its trademark for its PS3 exclusive Agent.

Anyone remember Agent? <a href=http://www.ign.com/articles/2009/06/02/rockstars-agent-announced-for-ps3>Announced at E3 2009 by PlayStation boss Jack Trenton, it was supposed to be a PS3 exclusive developed by Rockstar North, the studio behind Grand Theft Auto IV. Since the initial announcement however, there hasn't been much in the way of news except <a href=http://kotaku.com/5485440/rockstars-agent-still-in-development>to confirm that it's still in development. With four years having passed since its initial reveal, you couldn't really blame some for assuming the worst. That being the case, recent actions by the game's publisher, Take-Two Interactive may suggest that Agent isn't quite dead just yet.

Most notably, the publisher recently took the step of renewing two trademarks involved with the seemingly dormant title. The trademarks in question involve use of the name Agent with videogames and other gaming related properties like manuals and guide books. Granted, renewing a trademark is hardly tantamount to working on the game, releasing screenshots, or doing anything that might demonstrate actual progress. Even so, it's in the least a sign that Take-Two and Rockstar North care enough about the game to make sure the title is still its to use.

Hopefully though, this will amount to more than that. Rockstar may not have as frequent a release calendar as other developers, but looking at what it <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/7607-Review-Red-Dead-Redemption>accomplishes with the games it does make is enough to make us excited over the prospect of any new IP the studio wants to put out. Currently, all eyes are understandably on the forthcoming release of Grand Theft Auto V. That said, if Agent wants to sneak into view sometime in the near future, we'd be much obliged to see it.

Well, it seems somebody at Take-Two reads Cracked then! =P

But, hopefully this might mean that at least something will be happening with it. I remember being quite intrigued with the premise when it was announced.

Dear Take Two,

Please, for the love of God, please utilize old school espionage techniques in your game. I'm talking about a single hole punched into a tail light for tracking a car at night. Or pulling the fuses for the brake lights so a passenger can inconspicuously bail from a car that's being pursued. Dead drops. Bits of chalk dropped to the ground through a hole in a pocket, which are then stepped on to signal a meeting. There's also a secret way to fold a handkerchief with a dime hidden inside so that the dime falls out if disturbed.

There's an incredibly rich, declassified history with which to make an espionage game. Please don't make it into just another GTA except with paisley ties and bell bottoms.

I was JUST talking to my friends about this game yesterday, none of them remembered it. I remember being pretty dang interested in it when it was first announced, so I'm glad something is happening.
