Alan Wake Not Coming to PC

Microsoft spokesperson said:
"Some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen; we ultimately realized that the most compelling way to experience Alan Wake was on the Xbox 360 platform, so we focused on making it an Xbox 360 exclusive."
"Best" doesn't necessarily mean "only suitable for". Cutting off a from a chunk of the market seems a stupid idea, but seeing as the publisher is Microsoft Game Studios, it's easy to conclude that Microsoft is hatching a good plan to stoke up sales of the 360 by making it an exclusive. Evil plan indeed, but it is an intelligent move.

I would think that a psychological thriller would be MORE suited to the PC than the 360 due to the more "Intimate nature".

It's been said many a time before. What gets posted in the News section IS NOT INFLUENCED BY THE FORUMS. A lot of people don't read all the forums, if any, and get their news from the main site. Stop pointing it out.
Another user also made it, and I'm not saying he should have been on the look out for it, I'm saying he should have used the search bar. And I said it in the first post, and this is the first thread about this subject where I've said something like that, so I'm utterly confused about your second sentence.

Oh well. Im sure not many PC gamers are bothered by this seeing as its already taken ages for the game to come out. Luckily, I have a 360

Such a horrid excuse, either they're just a bunch of assholes or complete fools; not realizing how much more money that they'd make by having it on the PC. Perhaps even the PlayStation 3.

Ironic when you consider Micosoft were pimping Alan Wake as a reason people should upgrade to Vista and DirectX 10.
Even Microsoft can't denny what shit Vista was and how underwhelming and pointless Games for Windows still is. But let's do like MIcrosoft and forget Vista ever happened.
Oh and that's the reason as to why I'm using XP.

The second remark was not aimed at you per-se, but to a lot of people who post "this has already been done on the forums" in the comments for a news article. Making multiple forum threads on a topic is not good. And if you make a thread you should check to see if it has been done before. On this we can all agree.

When it comes to News articles, however this does not apply.

Or did I misunderstand your original remark?

I believe you misunderstood it. I wasn't talking about the news article, but about a user created thread with well over 40 replies. When it is something like that, I think it should be mentioned, because that is far different from actual news.

Eh, sounds like a really crappy excuse to me, but since I don't give a damn about this game, I'm not too bothered.

But the amount of hatred from the PC gamers is enough to make my ears burn, Jesus, chill out. It's a patronizing excuse I know but it's one game, if you want it that badly get a 360. Besides, you get enough benefits as it is for owning a PC, so I don't see why your complaining...

Well thriller-suspense type genre games aren't really my niche, but I've still gotta say that excuse is pretty bullshit. I find it hard to believe that proximity to your screen has all that much to do with gameplay, and if anything a thriller game would be better when you're closer to your monitor. Not to mention that it's undoubtedly being developed on PCs I can't imagine why it would be so hard to port it onto the platform you're using to DEVELOP IT. And even if it's "bigger" on a Television, the graphics would be vastly superior on the PC regardless.

Someone probably handed off a few buckets of cash to make this happen.

Douchebags have been abandoning the pc for ages, ever since fable 2. Hope microsoft staff all perish in a fiery ball of death for this.
It's just one game, you know. PC gamers have tons of exclusives, just like console gamers.

That's what a lot of people don't get- each console has its own unique merits. None of them are 'the best', but all of them are equal. Neither consoles or the PC are 'dying', really.
i dont care how many exclusives the pc has. It's the fact that ever game *I* wanted to really try has bee stuck in the horrible realms of 360. Halo 3 for one thing would be amazing to play on the PC since mouse&keyboard make it sooo much easier to play rpgs&fps games like that. Same for fable, it was unbelievably easier to play on the pc than it was the xbox. Not because the gameplay was easier, but merely controlling your character became supremely better.

Agreed, my Monitor is bigger than my tv. Even at only 23" when you are sitting close with good graphics quality you can see things soo much better sitting at a desk with a monitor than on a sofa at a tv.

Why don't they allow the customer to choose what platform would make a better experience for themselves? I am also all for making the word 'compelling' illegal to utter or write in any way, shape and/or form.

I thought this was a wonderfully valid reason. It explains their logic in a clear, concise way. Thanks Microsoft.

Quoted for accuracy ;)

I hate how devs keep spurning the PC - Fable 2, Deadspace 2, this - why?! Did MW2 not make ENOUGH of a profit to encourage multi-platform sales?!

Ok, so I never heard of this game before, but still, saying that you have to be sitting on a couch at a distance from the screen to properly enjoy this game, and using that as the only reason for not doing a PC release?! Gah.

The real translation here is, "Once enough people have bought it so we don't have to be irrationally afraid of the Piracy boogieman (I swear, I have solid facts proving that pirates stole 3.6 gazilion dollars out of our coffer, and punched my daughter in the face), we will release a PC port, complete with a few completely unnecessary bugs, but which will be absolutely fine enough for PC players to play and enjoy. It will make a comfortable profit, but not quite as much as it could have if we released it while there was still some buzz."

So I think we can safely say that we don't have to worry too much if you can deal with waiting.

Wasn't really interested in this game. I probably won't even rent it for my 360. However I will be sure to smile knowingly when I see this game released on Steam a year or two from now. Hell even Blazblue is getting a PC version and that is the kind of game where the PR. person's excuse would make perfect sense! If they had just said that they wanted to make the best game possible by focusing on the 360 platform, people would not feel like their intelligence was insulted.

Its obvious why they do this, so that people go out and buy the 360. Same reason for DirectX 10 and vista/7. Any other reason is Chunky Bull Crap.
