I just beat Alan Wake yesterday on the Hardcore difficulty. I was probably one of the few gamers out there that was never really looking forward to this game and I feel that because of that. I loved it. As we all know Hype can kill a game, and considering this game was shown off even before the xbox360 came out. That's plenty of time for hype to get the better of you.

So trying to leave your personal hype / expectations aside. What did you think?

I thought it had some of the best sound fx's around. It had an extremely well told story with little to no plot holes, a scary atmosphere back up by the sound, and while repetitive at times very VERY solid combat. Took me about 10 hours to beat first play through. All in all I thought it was a great game that should not be missed.

Your thoughts?

My thought is that those Episodes they promised need to hurry up and get here. That wasn't an ending, that was "Okay, wrap it up boys. Always leave them wanting more." Curse you, Rememdy, and your ability to leave me hanging! Fun game though. Loved it.

I thought it was like Borderlands without the guns - killing the same three enemies a billion times and I STILL don't get an ending!

But for the massive amount of things they did wrong, I can see why people like it.

Maybe it's because I played the game in one sitting, but by the end of the game I was completely sick of it. Which I shouldn't have been considering that the game didn't last very long for me (Possibly 8 to 10 hours of gameplay) but I'd definitely contribute it to the gameplay. Throughout the entire game it just sends you up against the same exact guys over and over again and at one point finally throws in a new enemy, inanimate objects. Awesome, now when I'm in a concentrated and stressful moment, trying to dwindle the enemies darkness down so I can finally do damage while he's getting ever nearer to me, I can get raped in he face by a random can. The story and atmosphere was superb, but the game was so god damn boring, tedious, and repetitive by the end of it that it really killed it for me.

I haven't played this game yet but I do have a question about it. Normally, I wont even consider buying a game unless it has at least decent replay value (I'm not counting future updates since that's additions to the storyline. I'm referring to a full playthrough all over again.) So, my question is how would you rate that game's replay value?

Nevermind, this guy/girl just answered my question. Though if anybody has a differing opinion, let me know.

It's definitely worth a first play through, I may have come off a little harsh. But the game is so unique that you have to give it a shot amongst the wave of mediocrity and FPS games today. I wouldn't recommend buying it cause it doesn't merit that, but I'd give it a rent cause you could beat it fairly quickly if you have the time.

Yeah...anytime somebody says "rent, don't buy" I just ignore the game completely. I'll stick to my games with higher replay value...on that note, *gets on horse* I'll be getting back to RDR.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
it was a pretty cool game and I really liked how it really seemed to take place in a real world but it would have been nice if it was scary at all, I think the only part in it that creeped me out at all was when it started making me think about silent hill 1 and 3 and those did scare me

I don't blame you, Red Dead Redemption is definitely something worth buying though. See ya mate.

I think it is a great game still playing through it. While the game is not perfect and has some problems here and there they are not game breaks and the game is still worth a buy.

Hmm. Well, there's certain parts that can only be found on the highest difficulty, which can only be unlocked after the first playthrough. But it's nowhere near as replayable as RDR.
