I like his bass synths, again just solid knowledge of sound synthesis on display. Worth studying. Reminds me a lot of Culprate.
Electrocado has awesome sound design. Always great to listen to. I do have to point out that Electrocado is a duo though. ;)

You can find all their music on their bandcamp. It's a "pay whatever you want" deal. You can listen to all the tracks before downloading, and even download all the music for free if you want!

Thanks for sharing those two, haven't heard either before. I'm always looking for new music to both study and spin.
No problem! Always happy to share music.

ELECTROCUTICA's music is a bit harder to find, most of their music are on albums only available in Japan. Though, they do have a bunch on singles on iTunes.

Woah, no way, I didn't realize Mr. Bill was in Electrocado! That explains a lot. I'll have to look into this Ryanosaurus as well. Gotta love the Sidney glitch/bass scene.

"EDM IS NOT PROPER MUSIC ARGBRGHSABLARG".

I hear this way too often, sadly.

For some reason this got me to think about chiptune, and then this song.
My mind works in mysterious ways.
It's silly because everyone thinks the computer does all the work. I wish. I mean it works that way if you just sample everything, but you can only really get away with that business in Rap. In fact most EDM requires a deeper understanding of music than rock. In rock you just have the group play chords together, and each musician needs (and often has) little to no knowledge of music theory beyond chords and possibly their function, add to that the fact that each musician only needs to know how one instrument works in the context of the song.

An electronic music producer has to know how not only every instrument functions in a song, but also how every frequency functions if they really want to produce something authentic. Basically: just knowing how to play the piano isn't enough, you have to understand the concepts behind playing EVERY instrument you want to use, and what they do within their frequency range, and then you have to go through and apply dozens sometimes even hundreds of effects (that you need to understand in a rather deep way unless you want to spend all night doing one sound by ear) to get that perfect sound. And I'm not even getting started on the most complex part: building your instrument from the ground up using sound synthesis.

In other words: To everyone who thinks making electronic music is simple; There sadly is no 'awesome button' and to get a true club hit a producer needs far more knowledge than a band member (and sometimes even a whole band).

Damn... /rant.

I suppose you don't need to know this at all as you're probably already aware, but if you weren't now you have something solid to back it I guess? Really I just wanted to soapbox for a second. XD

Also, I love Chiptune! I incorporate it into the high end of every song I make. In fact the song I'm working on now is a mixture of chiptune, glitchhop, and dubstep built around the theme of JRPGs.

The Unforgettable Fire - U2
Magic Hour - Cast
All Change - Cast
Vision Vally - The Vines
Road to Rouen - Supergrass

Very short list. I'm sure there's a few more, but very rarely is there an album that I find every track to my liking.

Jane's Addiction / Self-titled (Triple X live)
Led Zeppelin / Self-titled
Linkin Park / Hybrid Theory
The Moody Blues / A Question of Balance
Portishead / Dummy

Yes, I'm immoderately fond of disgruntled brits.

Blackjazz is such a rad album I CAN'T EVEN HANDLE IT
Fuck yes, more Shining fans!
So glad they're starting to get more recognition. Blackjazz is one of the most creative albums I've ever heard that I can never stop listening to it once I start.

Just my personal taste here;

Devin Townsend - Every record he's put out besides Physicist
I agree, Devin Townsend is so great! I especially like "Ziltoid", "Terria", "Accelerated Evolution" and "Ocean Machine" being my favorite.
Honestly, they're all masterful works.
Ziltoid was the first full album I had heard from him and I can't say I've ever outright disliked anything he's done.
His new album Epicloud is just awesome too, if you haven't heard it yet:

No idea why the video has those pictures but, still song's great.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but Within Temptation's "The Unforgiving" album is very enjoyable. Its like symphonic rock/metal with a Gothic twist.

Hey, I have used a DAW y'know. I'm fully aware of how this works. xD
I also know a lot of musicians, and some mixing engineers and whatnot.

I did realise that while I really enjoy electronic music, if I want to start with music, I want to start learning music theory and playing the piano, and work on it from there.

I also wanted to learn how to play the guitar. Then I saw this.
Then I just cried because of my inferiority. ;_;

Sounds like an interesting track! Send me a message when you finish it!

I know Dream Theater already got a few mentions, but the album I prefer most from them is Awake. There's not a single song I don't like.

As for other artists...
A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms
Tool - Any album, but prefer Undertow and Aenima over the rest
System of a Down - Toxicity
Kansas - Leftoverture

Really can't think of many others off the top of my head.

Learning music theory and piano is a good way to go. In fact that is the route I'm taking, my production is just running in parallel to my Composition degree, so that way I have something to do with all the part writing I'm learning in my theory classes.

Pffft, you should read the whole thread first!
I could barely sit still as I read the three pages I did read, I wish I had that patience, haha.

But I really understand what you're saying. This thread really made me feel like I was in a minority with my electro-wibbly-wabbly stuff.
It is weird, I've noticed this site is more rock oriented. Possibly because of the big push rock got on the 90's+00's gaming scene? Still, how can gamers not go nuts for the bleeps and bloops of the EDM scene?! So much of the high end of modern dance music is all square waves (for anyone reading this who doesn't know, square waves are the sharp but simple sounding tones traditionally associated with early gaming).

Have you listened to any ELECTROCUTICA?
Treow is a boss. Probably one of my favourite tracks ever.
No offense to either of you, and I love rock myself, but how can you two talk about Electronic music this much while missing my recommendation for F-777? Even after I said he got me into Electronic? I even mentioned bandcamp.com first... I feel left out. =(

But whatever, its no big deal really. F-777 has a free album here [http://jessevalentinemusic.bandcamp.com/album/free-mega-album-30-tracks]. A free EP [http://jessevalentinemusic.bandcamp.com/album/dark-angel-free-ep] as well. Although I still believe his latest, Smash it (Vol. 2) is his best yet, his free songs are a great place to start. All in all, this guy has yet to disappoint me, and at age 18, he's got a lot of time to fail me (lol).

I would also recommend French electronic artist Madeon. He's only 17, and he hasn't put out a full album out yet, but every song he's made so far is gold.

Also, his remixes tend to be just as good, if not better than the original.

On the original topic, I forgot one album I have where all but one of the 14 songs are great (that one song isn't even that bad, just "meh" to me): CIRCLE by Home Made Kazoku. These guys make great J-Pop with a nice, clean, feel-good sound that never fails to make my day less crappy. These guys rarely disappoint, and I would buy more of their music if it wasn't so hard to find here in the States (my brother actually bought this album used in Japan while studying abroad there).

This song is not on the album, but its one of my favorites (I wish I had the CD for this).

Haha, Didn't mean to leave anyone out. After I made the post and examined several others I noticed more, and even on this page I'm seeing a ton of my EDM loving brothers and sisters.

Haven't heard F-777, sounds pretty dope from what I've listened to. I had heard of Madeon from the DeadMau5 remix you posted and he is quite talented. It always shocks me when epic producers are so young, makes me wish I had stuck with it when I was 14 instead of getting lost in girls.

Cheers for sharing, sorry I missed ya. =P
