[b/]whats your attitude towards alchohol?[/b]

I know quite a few people here don't drink at all due to not being "party/social" people or just having a distaste for the stuff in general

I don't think I was ever "anti-alchohol", I'd gladly have some if given the chance, but there were certain aspects that put me off,but to be honest it was probably more the "party culture" than the actual alchohol that I didn't like (that and age group...last time I was ever doing that kind of thing was around high school age) I was never a social person so I just never drank it because that was the only setting I figured it was appropriate, plus I never liked any of the stuff.

that was untill some time ago I developed a taste for cider, and after reading yahtzees colum about how its odd that society sees drinking alone as "sad" or "problematic" I shook the preconception and started drinking now and again after work..while playing some games..and it was nice.Mabye its bad in that I'm getitng the alchohol without the social connection or whatever but really when I think about it....it doesnt feel that bad...like doing heroin or whatever

My first two years of uni I drunk far too much, but I'm kind of getting bored of it by now. I love the taste of it, and mixing a drink is both therapeutic and fun, but I'm fed up of waking up after a night out and feeling fucking terrible, wasting a whole day and wondering what really happened the night before.

I think I've reached the point where I'd rather have a few drinks in a pub, getting a bit tipsy, than to go full out shitfaced in a terrible club.

I'm sure there's loads of alcoholic beverages that I'd love given a taste, but I simply don't go to bars or parties or anything like that, since I don't have any friends.

Long ago when I was still in my youthful prime, I had some Baileys on occasion. Good stuff!

I don't go to bars often or any other place where drinking is normal.
Every now and then I'll have a drink by myself or with a few friends, or at a restaurant (provided I'm not driving),
but I never drink more than I can handle.

The thought of getting drunk is somewhat terrifying to me so that's one reason I don't drink alcohol. That and my social life is essentially non-existant. I've never had a problem with people who drink though, it's just not for me.

I like a beer, I like whiskey.

I prefer Ale but i'm not all that fussy.

Don't like wine and can't stand alcopops.

Ale, bitter or whiskey. That will do me nicely.

I was anti-alcohol when i was in my early and middle teens but once i passed 18 i became really relaxed about it. I don't like beers or spirits that much so i mostly drink cider, and i do drink that alone and with friends, i mostly drink when i'm gaming as i just find it very chilling.

I've never drinkk to get drunk either, i drink really slow and take my time since i prefer an actual coherent fun coversation with a drink i genuinely enjoy instead of a lot of my friends who down Tequila (which the all say they dislike)so it leaves me in the position where i'm basically the only one with coherent thought patterns by the end of the night. I'm a decent Designated shaparone anyway.

I dont experiment much with drinks either, i experiment with shots since they are small and cheap but for larger drinks i don't bother as i don't want to be stuck with a drink i hate. So i mostly stick to the cider side of things.

I don't drink, but I've no objection to others choosing to do so.

However, people who seem to think it's their duy to convince me that I'm wrong and should start drinking piss me off no end.

its not really...just a society thing

interestingly its pretty ingrained...I was on the phone to my brother and I mentioned what yahtzee said about it being sad because I found it interesting (and was having a cider) he then said "well...isn't it?" to which I said "not really..if you think about it" and he was like "huh...yeah I guess so"

I'm exactly the same...I drink cider (though I have trouble finding one in my local liqour store that doesnt taste liek beer) while playing assasins creed 3

in fact if it wasnt the fact a liquour store opened just down the road I probably wouldn't be drinking...as it would be embarrasing to ask my sister to get me my weekend supply (I don't drive)

this is satarting to sound sadder and sadder

you know it seems as though saying you don;t drink in social situations might be a way of scoring free drinks XD

I drank two very large glasses of wine last night before Walking Dead, and am therefore feeling a bit like crap this morning at work. I won't even pretend to be doing something until I'm done my coffee.

I only drink socially, and never that much. I see nothing wrong with a glass of wine (or whatever) at home by yourself, as long as you limit yourself to one or two. It can be relaxing. When I do have booze in the house (which isn't that often) I'll have one a night usually. This weekend I splurged and a large Bailey's and a few bottles of wine (as it's the holidays), so I've got enough to last a few weeks. I'll get some more for New Year's, then probably not buy any for a month or two. Or more.

I don't drink as much as I thought I would when I was still in high school (though I'm only halfway through my first year of college, so there's still plenty of time), but I've never been a big drinker anyways.

Partially because I'm either too muscular, or too fat (depends on how much I'm giving a shit about my health at the time) to get drunk at a reasonable pace, and partially because I usually spend my time doing other things like neck-bearding a game for extended periods or trying to keep up with schoolwork, etc.

At the end of the day, though, I don't care much about alcohol either way, as long as I'm being responsible about it, and as long as others are doing the same, then there's not too much to worry about.

I like a drink and I will pretty much drink anything. Though I've never been one to overdo the drink even on nights out or at parties. That is to say I never get drunk, but when I go out drinking getting drunk is not my primary aim rather just to have a good time.

Do you mean drinking alone as in, just having a couple of beers or ciders by yourself, because I think most people would agree that's fine. You're merely enjoying a drink for its taste, and perhaps to chill out a little. It's drinking to get properly drunk by yourself that society frowns upon, and possibly with good reason. It's ok very occasionally, but if you're regularly getting pissed alone then perhaps that's something to be concerned about.

I frequently have a couple of beers or a g&t by myself, but I wouldn't consider it drinking alone as my intention isn't to get drunk.

I don't drink. It's somewhat personal how I came to that point, but I generally don't care what other people want to do. It would be nice if the default assumption wasn't that you like to get wasted all the time, but you can't win them all I guess.

Drinking alone isn't necessarily sad or problematic. It can be a symptom of a bigger problem (it is on the signs of alcoholism list) but I think as long as you don't get piss drunk by yourself every day it's nothing to be concerned with. I'd say most people who drink will have a drink or two by themselves at least every once in a while.

yeah thats pretty much what I mean...depending on your definition of "drunk" as I can always feel the effects a little (relaxed, sleepy, can feel that feeling if I stand up/walk around) but I don't have more than one or two and don't drink to get plastered...no point anyway as the novelty of alchohol has worn off for me

I'd say the majority of people do that, or at least a lot do. Having a couple of drinks, perhaps for a slight buzz but nothing more isn't going to have a particularly large affect on you. It's been a way to unwind for centuries, and the depressing effects of alcohol help you relax and destress.

My parents for example, never drink with the intention of getting very drunk, except for very rare occasions. My dad is a control freak, and therefore hates the feeling of being really drunk because of the lack of control he feels. Despite this, they still have a glass or two of wine pretty much everyday (although they're cutting down their midweek drinking, but that's more to save money) after a long day of work. I don't think anyone would consider what they do unusual or worrying.

I really want a drink now, I wish I had more money.

There's nothing that is as satisfying as sharing a bottle of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey or Black Label with the person you care about the most. God I love Whiskey
