Who the fuck uses internet explorer besides the elderly and computer illiterate?
Seriously. You're asking for trouble if you run that browser.
I'm computer retarded, i use internet explorer. I could ask why i shouldn't, but i probably won't understand and keep using it.

OT: i'm from Canada, are we at risk also?

Yes, it's everyone, everywhere. We also had official warnings from the police here in The Netherlands. Now mind you, the problem that it has has been around for years, possibly even decades. It's only somewhat recently become know that this weak spot exists though.
So yeah, it's strongly advised you change your browser, at least until Microsoft has released a Windows update with a fix for the problem.

(WIN XP will not be getting a fix as MS has dropped all support for that OS.)

I have nothing against keeping IE around, but restricting other browsers seems a bit much. I understand a lot of Microsoft software works well with other Microsoft software, but honestly I think IE is the ugly duckling here.
That's just how Microsoft does business. Why should they bother competing when they have a monopoly on 90% of pc market? They'd rather force people to use their garbage rather than make it better then accuse a company like Google of having a monopoly because they make services that are both good and free
Yeah, I figured it was some shit like that. I was just curious why some companies have a "you can't use Chrome/Firefox no matter what policy." I guess it's to avoid confused employees complaining to IT about websites/software "not working" when in reality it's just a compatibility/support issue.

And yeah, I have full Outlook installed on my work PC anyway so IE really has nothing to offer in that regard.

I'm not suprised that IE has security problems but I am suprised that the US Government are giving out advice to protect people on the internet. The DHS must be terrorists! Go get 'em NSA!

I can't imagine anybody using it without being forced to anyway. So I don't think this warning is all that necessary, though it was very thoughtful.

Nuuuuuu, Inori-chan be careful...!

Just kidding, but I don't know what that bug is meant to mean. Maybe I'm computer illiterate, but if someone hacks into your network does it not already treat them as a legitimate user? Is it to do with password autocomplete or something?
