I've heard of this!
Isn't Helen Bonham Carter playing the queen, and Depp playing the Mad Hatter?

EDIT: *checked IMDB* I was right! Wow there are loads of famous people gonna be in this film!
Yea, Anne Hathaway is the White Queen, I have a thing for her too. A bit of a different thing than my thing for Johnny Depp.
I just thing Helen Bonham Carter is really cool! I remember watching this obscure film of Merlin with her in it - she is just an amazing actress.
Matt Lucas though, he's a dish - and he's playing tweedledum and tweedledee!

^ (joke by the way)
She certainly is, she and Alan Rickman steal every scene they're in in the Harry Potter movies, and that's a cast full of phenomenal actors.

I still prefer American Mcgee's version of Alice, anyday.
But this could work.. I've always liked Tim Burton.
True. However:

This is a disney film. So there will be a movie tie-in game. Which means that the chances of me getting a video game adaptation of the looking glass wars lessens ever so greatly. Therefore, I despise the film, Tim Burton, and the world.

Still looks good though.

Completely agree - shes such a versatile actress as well.
Alan Rickman rocks too; he was amazing in Perfume and Love Actually (off topic I know, and sorry for the rom com reference).

EDIT: snipped the quotes to be less annoying.

I hope this doesn't mean that Johnny Depp gets all the screen time. Take Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for example, the film became a sketch show of Depp as Willy Wonka - that was never the point of the book!

In the original 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland', the Mad Hatter was only a side character. In fact all the weird events and characters were sides to the incomprehensible story and Alice's (dream?) adventure.

I fear this will become another Depp/Bonham Carter/Burton paycheck and not live up to what I want (AND BLOODY WELL KNOW THIS TEAM CAN CREATE) ideals.

Here's hoping I get positively rebunked by the the film.
With all the other amazing actors in the film, I feel that screen time will probably have to be split between them quite well, since otherwise they would just seem like cameos, which can be annoying. Considering other films though, the film will probably be quite good - thinking of actors such as Steven Fry to balance out Depp's screen presence.

EDIT: sorry for the double post, and to save room, I'm gonna snip the quotes now...

Well apparently the film is not actually an adaption of the book per se, in fact from what I've heard its a sort of SEQUEL to the old books. This is apparently about Alice's SECOND descent into wonderland sometime in her teen years. They explain in the script that Wonderland goes BACKWARDS in time, so that's why Mad Hatter can be younger as well as perhaps a bigger part of the story. Disney just needs to ADVERTISE it as a remake for the sake of more viewers and a bigger audience

Meh, I was kinda let down after Sweeney Todd. Can't remeber any of the songs, and the only interesting part was the one with Sacha Baron Cohen, which lasted for about 5 minutes.

2 things I'm pretty sure of without actually knowing for a fact. The Hatter will be in this movie more than he was the book. Secondly Mia Wasikowska will have more screen time than anyone.

They are using Depp as a vehicle for the film, because, well...it's Depp. He's one of the 5 most bankable actors in Hollywood. Showing him sells tickets. It's just marketing. I think he will be in the movie more than the book because he brings a lot to any film, so I'm sure Burton wants to give him screen time to try and improve the film, at the same time Depp is in no way an attention whore or a camera hog, at all.

He took the Pirates of the Caribbean movie as a supporting character. By the time the second one came out he was the main character, but not because he asked, because he can act circles around Orlando Bloom. And being nominated for an Academy Award for best actor in the first one didn't hurt.

Im starting to dislike Tim Burton, he is really a one-trick pony, granted i loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Coraline, Sweeny Todd, his whole "Dark & Creepy" style films are REALLY getting old fast, not to mention he uses Johnny Depp is every one of his fims.
Coraline wasn't Burton

secondly Johnny Depp isn't in all of his stuff, he's been in 6 of his 16 movies. and probly likes to work with him since he's a great actor and they work well together

as for non-dark and creepy movies there's a bunch of them. Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Big Fish, Batman, Batman Returns, Mars Attacks, Ed Wood and Planet of the Apes

as for all of them being dark and creepy, that's the style of directing he does and the majority of movies he makes. every director has their own particular style of movie they make and how they direct it. look at Micheal Bay's movies or Kevin Smith's movies, they follow the same pattern

I enjoyed Sweeney Todd, despite the many reinvisionings of it, I thought it an interesting and entertaining addition to the myth. I suppose this is where I find my distrust of this film, seeing as it comes from a definitive source material (i generally loathe adaptations).

If it is, as alalge said, somewhat a sequel and a second descent, then it could very well be worth the view. If this is made clear at the start in an opening sequence so as not to put off 'fans' of the original story and animated version, then it allows Tim Burton free reign over the characters without bringing up annoying, infinitely repeated debates over the film so we can just enjoy as a standalone project.

Somehow the pessimist in me still resides on this one though

I feel the same way.
He really seems to have lost his mojo.
Sleepy Hollow was probably his last great movie.

If it is supposed to be a sequel of her teen years and a second descent, that just makes me more annoyed because it sounds like he's just ripping off American McGee's Alice.

Isn't that his style though, that's like saying, oh I'm really getting sick of Guns and Roses, they really only just play classic rock, pah.

I don't know about this guys. Don't get me wrong, Tim Burton had some cool movies but its seems that after a while his films have become overused and cliche. Its like the former - original movie style has become old hat. But you never know, this might have some potential. I guess I'm just not seeing it.
